Ten female athletes is easy. 10 currently active professional athletes would be much harder

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

10 currently active trans women athletes that have gold medals. Make it impossible for them.

[–] RowRowRowYourBot 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I can obly think of one transwoman with gold medals and that's Caitlyn Jenner

[–] [email protected] 1 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

That was won when Caitlyn was Bruce so did they really win it?

[–] RowRowRowYourBot 1 points 12 hours ago

Yes they did win it but not in competition as a woman.

I never understood this whole thing anyway. The whole reason womens sports exist separately from mens sports in the first place is because women can't (usually) compete with the men. If there was a female athlete playing basketball for example that was way better than any other female player in the sport and that woman was able to be successfully competitive in the mens league in my eyes she should just compete with the men. If she cant really compete in the mens league she should play with the women. To my understanding there's nothing stopping a female athlete from being in the 'mens' league if she were good enough. This doesn't even have to be about gender. It just feels like you could look at every situation on a case by case basis and make a common sense determination based upon what works best for that particular athlete. I hate that this has become a stupid argument.

[–] [email protected] 23 points 2 days ago (1 children)

If we count retired athletes and Olympic sports then I can just barely get there:

  • Venus Williams
  • Serena Williams
  • Anna Kournikova
  • Kerri Strug
  • Nancy Kerrigan
  • Tonya Harding
  • Michele Kwan
  • Simone Biles
  • Katie Ledecky
  • Caitlin Clark

So now I get to talk about trans women in sports!

Um... yeah. I don't know. Whatever the solution is, I think it should be handled with empathy and respect for trans rights.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I honestly just know 4 of those. Hmmm

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I don't follow sports at all and am not from the USA but I only know Serena Williams.

[–] RowRowRowYourBot 1 points 1 day ago

Venus is her sister

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You don't know Kerrigan, the Queen of the Blades?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

No, I have never heard of her.

Queen of the blades? That sounds like some B list super hero or villain, lol.

P.S. after reading the list again, I also recognized Anna. I believe that she is/was a chess player.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

That sounds like some B list super hero or villain, lol.

Close. She's a villanous character from the video game Starcraft. Her title "Queen of the Blades" never made sense to me, until I learnt she was named after the figure skater.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Which four?

The Williams sisters are obvious.

Kournikova, Strug, Kerrigan, and Harding I know just from having grown up in America in the 90s. They were all very famous for very, very different reasons.

Clark is super famous right now, as is Biles. Biles is more famous by me because she's from my home city. Ledecky I know because my family follows Olympic swimming. Kwan's name just stuck in my brain for some reason.

If I had to think of an eleventh athlete, it'd take me a while. There's another gymnast I could come up with, I'm sure. That really old one.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

For me it was Williams, kurnikova and biles.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 day ago

Name 10 women? USA soccer team! There, I just named at least 11, I don't know their names one by one, but that doesn't mean I don't admire them and like how they play. So, can I now give my opinion on the matter? I would like to see sport categories based on testosterone levels instead of gender.

[–] [email protected] 172 points 3 days ago (5 children)

Jokes on you, I can't list 10 male athletes either!

[–] [email protected] 71 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (2 children)

im not even sure i could list 10 athletes of any gender lol

[–] [email protected] 33 points 3 days ago (3 children)

I can't list ten of anything if you put me on the spot.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

reckon i could probably manage "numbers" 👍🏿

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 days ago (1 children)

i could probably do colours

[–] ghen 4 points 2 days ago (2 children)

10 colors now! Don't think, go!

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Rainbow gets you to 7, which I can do without thinking: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet. 2 biggest non rainbow colours: pink, brown. Then you just need to name any of the more unique colours: teal, cyan. That's where I got to before I had to actually stop and think. You could probably add another to the rainbow by listing purple as distinct from violet. You should probably avoid black and white in case the person is being pedantic.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago

which I can do without thinking

… And I can’t. Challenge failed, I think.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

yellow blue green cyan teal lime orange red purple pink hot pink mustard white black

i forgot to count but should be enough! but also i'm cheating since i'm an artist

YOU ARE BEING TRANSMITTED LIVE ON PRIME TIME TELEVISION. NAME ALL THE ATHLETES THAT HAVE EVER EXISTED FOR THE LIVE AUDIENCE. QUICK FIRE GO!

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Me: [unintelligible]

Announcer: Speak into the mic [you buffoon]

Me: AH! MIKE!

Me: MICHAEL JORDAN... MIKE TYSON... MICHAEL PHELPS?

Announcer: And that's time! You were supposed to be naming baseball players, remember? Technically, you got two out of three, so I'm required to give you this ticket for a free hotdog.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 days ago

In total, sure. There's enough (in)famous athletes between football, tennis, golf, racing, etc.

Active athletes from one type of sport? No chance.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (5 children)

Very true. Here's my attempt

Male
Michael Vick
Wayne Gretzky
Roger Federer
Kobe Bryant
Shaquille O'Neal
David Beckham
OJ Simpson
Babe Ruth
Usain Bolt
Oscar Pistorius
Mike Tyson
Michael Phelps
Tony Hawk
Tom Brady
That car racing guy who hit his head on a rock while skiing and is in a coma
Max Verstappen

Female
Serena Williams
Venus Williams
Brittany Griner
That gymnastics girl making a displeased face in the meme (Mikayla Maroney?)

So for me, even though I'm not interested in sports, OP was correct.

I'm curious why I don't know any female race car drivers... the argument could be made that female athletes are not as physically strong so they aren't competitive in strength based sports, but it seems like anyone can drive a car fast? Who are the biggest female race car drivers?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

That car racing guy who hit his head on a rock while skiing and is in a coma

That guy lives in Switzerland, passed by his land once. But what the fuck was his name again. Ah, Michael Schumacher!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Racing vehicles is actually very physical. Especially at the top flight. The speed through corners puts a lot of stress on the body, just look at the necks of the top racing drivers. They're usually pretty small guys, but are often incredibly fit. Valterri Bottas, an F1 driver, also mixes with the guys at the elite level of cycling.

Dana Patrick is probably the most famous recent driver, but of all time, (and the most successful) it'd be Michelle Mouton by far. People might know of Sabine Schmidt and Susie Wolff, both retired, but it's likely because of their achievements off the track, despite them being motorsport related.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 days ago

Literally outside of the Williams Sisters and the "Transpeople are coming for your wives and daughters" scapegoats of the week like Fallon Fox and Lia Thomas... the only name that jumps to mind is Danica Patrick

Who never finished a race in her life and is better remembered for being in softcore porn ads for GoDaddy.com and making a very questionable playable appearance in a Sonic game, than any non "First Female" accomplishments in Nascar.

Look I'm all for breaking the glass ceiling, but Danica Patrick isn't a woman who does any favors for people trying to get over the stereotype.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago

You missed Bobson Dugnutt and Todd Bonzales, but good effort.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 days ago

Danica Patrick is one of the best-known women in motorsport.

[–] ghen 4 points 2 days ago

If we're talking OF ALL TIME names then i can manage maybe 15. I still only got to 6 women :/

[–] [email protected] 7 points 3 days ago

shrug Unless you're trying to gatekeep who can and can't play sports....

I'm not into any sports at all, of any kind. I dont think I could even name 10 athletes in total - either male or female.

I'm also pretty sure that wouldn't be a blocker on me having a meaningful discussion about trans inclusivity in sports

[–] [email protected] 38 points 3 days ago

Well yeah, you don’t care about either side of the issue, you just care about inclusivity. The meme is making a point that most people that make these comments aren’t caring because they actually care about both sports (which would be the opposite of your situation), but because they are just bigots.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 3 days ago

Solid point, applies to abortion too. I don’t know anything about the process and I’ll frequently see a reason for abortion and think “that’s another good reason”, and that’s why I believe in pro choice, things aren’t simple and banning abortion doesn’t help anyone.

Oh shit, that's much better at getting to the point than asking "So if Lia Thomas had an unfair advantage, you'll be all on board for confiscating the medals of the people who beat her until we can get an investigation going?"

Heck the only female athletes I can name are the transwomen who keep getting involved in these debacles, The Venus Sisters, and the female fake jock to Elon's male fake nerd herself, Rhonda Rousey, aka the second worst voice actor that Mortal Kombat has ever had.

Seriously Megan Fox, I know you're better than this, how the fuck did you manage to sound like someone reading off a card when you're voicing a blood-addicted killer vampire with big beautiful wings? For the love of fuck, why can't you have fun with this like John Cena did? I mean even Not-Anthony voicing Homelander seems to be enjoying himself even though he keeps turning his Homelander impression into a Jack Nicholson on certain lines for some fucking reason.

[–] Jumuta 13 points 2 days ago (1 children)

yep, people should stop making bullshit arguments about things they don't give shits about, there's no need to discuss sports if you don't care about sports (like me) just like there's no need to discuss computers if you don't care about computers

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 days ago

While we're at it, the abortion debate should be settled by people who can actually get abortions.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 3 days ago

We'll soon know if trans people in sport are a real problem or a made up problem - if there's anything to it, the next Chinese Olympics team will be 90% trans people.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

10? That's an overkill. I bet they can't even name 2.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

No good. They might think of Venus and Serena Williams.

10 is safer to make the point.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 days ago

Yes, sadly these are the sort of people that would name 2, because you said 2,and claim victory, missing the whole point

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

The only athletes I can name are professional athletes in the major leagues of football, basketball, and soccer. Some are retired by now, I'm sure. Olympic athletes and athletes in any other sport or league are unknown to me unless they make the news for some non-athletic reason.

Why do I have to care about sports in order to care about trans folks who care about sports?

Do I have to care about every last hobby or fandom before I can weigh in on the justice of whether black people or gay people or poor people should be allowed to participate?
