A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

Elmo has aspergers, a form of autism. RFK says people with autism can't use the bathroom by themselves.

Seriously, why are they so small? It's like they're inviting my cellphone to fall out.

  • Fuck this bolt is stuck!
  • Goddamn I busted my hand again!
  • Oh shit, I lost another 10mm socket!

And the list goes on and on...

Every call I've ever had that was a wrong number, misdailed number, pocket dial or whatever that wasn't supposed to be for me turned out to be a spam call or marketing call for something. Most of the time, it was a way for me to confirm my number to some dumb marketer.

For the past year or two, I answer all mysterious calls I don't recognize and put it immediately on 'mute'. If the person calling doesn't identify themselves ... I let them hang up first and then I just block the number. If they identify themselves with some weird marketing message ... I let them hang up and then block the number.

Sure, playing chess needs intelligence, dedication, and good chess players are smarter than an average person. But it's waaaay exaggerated in movies. I'm a math researcher, and in any movie, my department will be full of chess geniuses. But in reality, only about 10% of them even play chess.

It sure would explain the similarity between the ever more potential state of America and her novel The Handmaid's Tale.

This thread is as popular as the 2003 comedy central show, "I'm with busey."

Or vice versa.

This is my apocryphal theory: The Devil never really betrayed God, he is just pantomiming being his adversary to make God look more benevolent and the only alternative for salvation.

The Devil tempts people to fall into sin so that they end up in hell and being tortured for ever, just as a cop under cover pretends to sell or buy drugs and then arrests those who fall into the trap.

This role is even consonant with his Angel name: Lucifer, the light of God. For there to be light there must be darkness, so Lucifer takes the role of that darkness.

(For the record: no, I didn't read Ssndman or Predicator, nor saw the Lucifer TV Show, so I don't know if this theory is already known. If so, please share where I can read more about it, thanks!)
