People need to start demanding their state pension plans pull out of tesla. Lot of people's retirement money is gonna get tied up in this crash.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 days ago

That's a nice start.

I have a feeling that people will downvote you, because on the surface it SOUNDS like you're defending tesla.

However, I'd like to point out AI doesn't give a shit about accuracy or context, or being right.

AI can reaffirm your already held beliefs, and still be bad for doing so. Because if you let yourself be led by self reaffirming beliefs, how is it any different than people who watch fox news and say "Yeah! All the people I already hate ARE the source of my problems! Even the TV says so!"

If NPR or BBC or any other news outlet just started reporting "trump bad! Other people good!" but it was based on an AI overview that viewers leaned a certain way, and therefore would be profitable to slant news that way, then you aren't getting news. You're getting artificial opinion pieces written by a computer.

Now, that being said, even human news outlets slant their stories. So the issue isn't exclusively with AI. Real journalism is dead and has been dead for decades.

The point I'm making is, just because the story says "tesla bad!" and we all hate tesla, doesn't make this story legitimate journalism. Even if the story and facts presented are true.

And I think most people will not grasp that concept, and downvote you.

[–] [email protected] 28 points 1 week ago (3 children)

They have zero downvotes right now and I think journalism is still alive.

There’s BBC, CBC, PBS, NPR and John Oliver who all still do amazing work and that’s just scratching the surface.

In hindsight, it's so wild that five short years ago this motherfucker was thought of as a visionary.

With the recent threats against Greta Thunburg, I like to remind people that Tesla provided her a car that she spent a significant part of a year touring the USA in some time ago.

Then Elon took off his mask.

UPDATE: while she did have use of a Tesla, it was provided by Arnold Schwarzenegger not Tesla/Musk.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 days ago

That's interesting. I wasn't aware.

Thanks for sharing.

He's a modern day Edison [this is an insult].

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 week ago

That is very true. Or a Steve Jobs. Lots of rarified men out there happy to take credit for things other people created.

I really miss ten years ago, when I had a faint glimmer of hope that he might not be a complete piece of shit. He really showed his character with the "pedo guy" debacle and has been on a steep downward trajectory since.

Good! Bring it down to 100% and also bring down Twitter usage to similar levels! Build fiber to rural areas so they won't need Starlink or if you currently use Starlink see if fixed wireless is possible, maybe with a parabolic antenna on your roof or on an antenna tower you could get a signal. Keep boycotting Elon Musk until he's bankrupt.

Yet, the stock price holds.

The stock market is a sham.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Stock market as a whole is...okay I guess. These one-off, bulletproof companies are silly. It's almost a religion and the people who hold the stock truly believe that Tesla is going to make automatic cars that will drive everyone while also making autonomous robots that will do everyone's laundry and the current problems are nothing compared to the beliefs in the future. The value will hold until it doesn't (eg, they finally need the money for today's bills in a recession that cost them their jobs), and then the value will plummet to something that actually looks normal for the sales they are making at this time.

Until they need their money, they have the unshakable belief they will all be millionaires as soon as Tesla comes out with the world changing techs and has no competition. Should be any day now. Or maybe in 2 weeks.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 6 days ago (1 children)

The fact that it's in the S&P500 also gives the stock some staying power that it otherwise wouldn't have, because a lot of people indirectly hold shares of it in a way that they can't easily dike out of their portfolio

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 days ago

If it were to ever exit the S&P 500, it would for sure fall pretty hard. Unfortunately, for that to happen, it would need to fall even harder first.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 6 days ago

It's always been an MLM.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 6 days ago

That’s what gets me. What stupid ass holes are holding this up? Let it fucking die. Maybe don’t tie up all your money with a neurotic criminal next time? What piece of shit idiot has their income riding on Tesla shares.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 6 days ago

We probably won’t see much movement until the next earnings call. However I can tell you the drop is already priced in. TSLA puts are super expensive. 1 month put is $2200.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Their valuation was never based on car sales, theyre valued like a tech company. It's a long term bet that their self driving and other tech will set them up for large profits eventually.

Really curious what you think the 'sham' is on the stock market and how it supposedly works.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

They are dogshit as a tech company.

[–] Yerbouti 35 points 1 week ago (3 children)

I still see way too much tesla in Montréal. I've been telling people musk is a fascist bitch ever since he bought Twitter and let the nazis back in. Décâlisse Elon.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Tesla fake a substantial portion of their sales in Canada until this year? Might that be related?

[–] HellsBelle 17 points 1 week ago

The most recent article I found says each rebate must be verified before the federal government will release the funds to Tesla.

Go, Québec! ❤️

[–] [email protected] 25 points 1 week ago (11 children)

I live in Toronto and it’s Tesla land over here. I see those things everywhere. I wish I could say this was because of the electric car thing, but I see those hideous cyber trucks almost daily, so there’s lots of Elon fuck boys here.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I think you need to wait a generation of car buying before really coming to any conclusions.

I bought a Model Y when they first came out and still drive it, but I’m 99% sure I’ll be “one and done” with Tesla once it’s time for me to buy my next car. There are some features of my Tesla that I like, but plenty I dislike as well. I don’t agree with Elons ideas of minimizing controls, relying on vision for all automation, etc. The idea of windshield wiper controls being a couple levels deep in touchscreen menus is a terrible idea.

The only way I’d buy a second Tesla a few years down the line is if they gave up on the minimalist/touchscreen route and started reintroducing physical controls for most functions. But it’s a safe bet Elon will never allow that as long as he’s running things.

When I do finally decide to replace my Tesla a few years from now there will be significantly more EV options out there. And with the J3400 connector now an open standard and Tesla SuperChargers supporting non -Tesla EV’s, there’s even less incentive to stay with a Tesla EV.

Let’s just rule out junkie musks, nazi embodying, man child contempt for everyone but himself.

Tesla sucks. There are other, better options.

Tesla might have sparked the interest to consumers but they are trash
