A 57,000 square foot Temu warehouse in China went up in flames today. The total loss of inventory has been estimated to be as high as $56.19 USD.
I still don't get why Temu is so popular... Sure everything is like $0.49, but it's all junk that is either already broken when it arrives or will break within a week of using it if it works at all. What's the point?
If you're going to get cheap, Chinese shit anyway no matter where you shop, may as well be only $0.49 instead of $49.00.

I was going to say something to that effect. It feels like people are more into the experience of shopping rather than the actual product.
I’m starting to feel old-school in that I’m happy to pay more (sometimes much more) for a quality product that will last.
It frustrates me that it’s hard to find answers to questions about products before you buy them and that most information seems to be scammy affiliate links blogs.
That's always what I was taught as a kid! My mom always insisted it was better to save up and spend $100 on a decent pair of shoes that will last a few years instead of $30 for shoes that will fall apart in a few months

It does work. You have to be selective though. There's a lot of cheap crap that people buy on amazon that are available on TEMU for 5 to 10x less.
Also you have to have low expectations. Just like when you buy cheap shit on Amazon. It's more for little trinkets that you can get by without but may be useful.
The free shipping and free 90 day returns helps with the product not living up to expectations.
There are also American retailers on the site. I recently got an Anker wireless battery charger for $5-6 less than Amazon.
The only major downside is shipping. Nearly everyone is accustomed to one or two day shipping now. Temu shipping almost always takes 4-6 days.
It's cheaper to ship products into the USA from China than it is to send a package to a neighbor. This is because it is subsidized with US tax dollars because China is a "developing nation."
The app is designed like TikTok + scammy ad type deals + gambling. You are supposed to get addicted to using it, not to buy the things you want
Ah, you just described average chinese ecommerce app. Fuckloads of ads, check-ins, roulette and sometimes straight up prompting fishy microcredit deals. They even put live streaming into food service app, some merchants in meituan(chinese uber eat) has a popup of live stream when you enter their page... Chinese apps are just TERRIBLE.

I could understand getting some cheap crap occasionally. Maybe once or twice a year. Sometimes I don't mind something that's really cheap if it's cool enough.

Temu itself I don't recommend but Aliexpress has been around for over 10 years and I buy lots of electronics parts from it. I have a collection of Pi Pico clones I got for $3 each. I do use them up semi frequently because I make controllers with them. Other things I get are momentary switches, LEDs, wire etc.
People use these marketplaces wrong IMO. They look for the listing with the lowest price and complain when it doesn't last as long as something 4x the price. You can absolutely buy perfectly good parts and products but you have to buy from reputable sellers and Chinese brands, and people seem to prefer buying the cheapest junk they see.
Just don't buy anything of value. I thought I'd save $30 buying a mtb dropper post direct from aliexpress instead of resellers on amazon. Fedex delivered it to the wrong address and the seller refused to file a claim with fedex and I couldn't because I was receiving not shipping. Customer support sided with the seller because the label was marked 'delivered' and I was out $70.
Did you try to do a refund with aliexpress and then a credit card charge back with your bank?
That's mostly a Fedex issue, not an AliExpress one.
Which still makes it an aliexpress issue when they choose the carrier not you.

Lifted truck owners are not exactly the most safe folks when it comes to doing their own work, and I've seen a lot of videos of the wiring these people do. I'd be willing to bet the cause was unfused wiring done by the owner.
