I install 3 cooler master halo 2 mf120 fans, but one of the fans ring is turned off, I tried unplugging from CM A1 rgb controller and connecting directly to the motherboard but nothing changes

I just bought everything I need for my new build: 64GB 6000 CL30 RAM, 9800X3D, Corsair 1000W PSU, and an Asus X870-F motherboard. Now comes the dilemma—which GPU should I get?

Should I buy a 7900 XTX now, or wait for the 5080/5090? The 5090 wasn’t originally in my budget, but by the time the market stabilizes and the cable melting ""issue"" is resolved, I’d have enough saved up for it.

The 7900 XTX doesn’t really excite me, not because of raw performance but because it's getting old, lacks FSR 4 support (for now) and has mid/mediocre ray tracing. Plus, some newer games are starting to use ray tracing directly in their engines, without an option to disable it, which can hurt performance on AMD cards.

For now, I’m gaming at 1440p, but I might move to 4K in the future. Currently using a RX 6800 (non-XT).

What would you do in my situation?

Hey everyone,

I am running into issues with my CPU temperature after building a new PC.

Specs:

  • CPU:AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
  • GPU: RTX 5090FE
  • RAM: 64 GB Corsair Vengeance DDR5-6000
  • Mainboard: Gigabyte aorus pro ice x870e
  • Cooler: Be Quiet! Light Loop 360mm AIO

I am running at around 60°C in idle and when starting Cyberpunk it goes up to 90+°C.

I have checked on HWinfo and my Fans seem to be running fine. What is a bit confusing to me however is that my pump is running at ~2700 rpm which seems to be too high for an AIO pump.

I also should have decent enough airflow, but my cpu radiator is above my gpu.

Does anyone have an Idea where the issue could lie?

Thank you in advance!

I'm trying to repurpose an old computer as a NAS for storing pictures but I'm not sure about its limitations. I'm probably going to use TrueNAS with Immich.

I haven't powered it on yet so I'm not sure about the CPU, but here are the other specs I know:

RAM: 2x4GB DDR3

PSU: 300W

1 PCIe x16 port

2 PCIe x1 ports

1 M.2 E-key (WiFi card currently installed)

2 HDD ports (1 TB HDD in one port)

2 ODD ports

I've tried researching on my own but got a bit lost, so any tips or advice are appreciated. However, I do have several questions of my own:

RAM upgrade: I think the motherboard supports up to 16GB of RAM. Is it worth it to upgrade if I'm only storing pictures?

Boot drive: Since the system will be connected via Ethernet, should I remove the wifi cards and use a M.2 storage card for the boot drive? Or should I just boot from a USB flash drive?

Storage: Whats the best bang for buck HDD size/brand for longevity? I'd rather buy a large capacity once and then buy the same size later for redundancy than get new drives every couple of years

PCIe slots: I’m unsure if the onboard ethernet supports 100Mbps or 1Gbps. If it's only 100Mbps, should I add an ethernet card? Or should I add more storage? I think the PSU only has 4 SATA power ports, so is it worth it to add SSDs?

Remote desktop: This NAS will be an offsite backup at my parent's house. Does anyone have recommendations for good resources to set it up and remote in securely? Ideally I'd want to be able to wake on lan or something to turn it on in case it shuts down for some reason

Again, I'm a little lost so any help is greatly appreciated. Sorry for all the questions, and thanks in advance!

Thoughts on a 7600XT?

Building a new PC for strategy games. Was thinking I would invest a little more heavy in the CPU and get a Ryzen 7 9800x3d. The 7600s are sub $300usd right now so thinking I would start there and then upgrade to a new gen GPU next year. I don't play online and play very little shooters.

I have a laptop screen from an old dead laptop, the screen is still good minus a couple of scratches. Im looking to put it into a CRT case and have a little homelab that I can mess around with that is housed in the back in one neat little CRT shaped package.

Im looking to put a Mini-ATX or smaller board inside (standard is too close so I'm not gonna risk it) and have either an eDP 1.2 cable directly go into the mobo or make/buy an adapter to HDMI and plug it in from there. My first thought was to find a mobo with an eDP input but it seems like they are few and far between. the only ones I have found so far are two from ASRock and listed below.

They seem like more of a gimmick though?

I have also found this (an eDP to HDMI adapter) but it seems very expensive for what it is which is why I might be considering making it.

I guess the point of this post is to ask anyone if they:

  1. Know a way to search for mobos that contain an eDP 1.2/know of a big list where I could compare

  2. Know a way (on the cheap) to convert an eDP cable to HDMI or something of the sort (VGA will do!! Im desperate lol)

Thanks for your time everyone! If you guys want pictures ill be happy to take some tomorrow! Its getting late for me now so I'll check back on this in the morning. Goodnight everyone!

Hey guys, I am in the market to upgrade my entire set up. Looking to go for a RX 7900XTX/ Ryzen 7 9800X3D build. How's my parts looking? I have the case with my current set up already. Ignore pricing as it'll vary majorly based on where I live.

Just looking for any possible input. Haven't been in the PC building scene for a few years.

Also recommend any case fans you think would be good!

So I got the old.. Like really old PC from my brother, which is still an upgrade to my system since mine is even older (i5-2500k, 8gb ram, 970).

Now, I'm on a budget and want to upgrade only the GPU of my new system, because I'm getting operated and want to play some video games during my recovery. But my research tells me that some people call my new CPU an absolute piece of trash, while Others say it's still pretty decent for it's age in a budget build. Therefore I need some Help choosing a new GPU and If that even makes sense. Was thinking of a used 2060 super, 6700/6750 (xt), 7600(?), or even a 1080 ti, but I feel Like that's a gamble since its so super old. Being able to play Baldurs Gate 3 on Low settings in 1080p without having to spend more than Like 250€ would be great. Ideas?

My new PC:

  • ASUS Gryphon Z97 Armor Edition (Micro-ATX, Intel Z97 chipset, thermal armor protection)
  • i7-4790K (4 cores, 8 threads, base 4.0 GHz, turbo up to 4.4 GHz)
  • CPU Cooler: Corsair Hydro Series H80i GT (Closed-loop liquid cooler, 120 mm radiator)
  • 32 GB Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR3-1600 MHz (4 × 8 GB)
  • EVGA GeForce GTX 970 FTW+ (4 GB GDDR5, factory overclocked)
  • Power Supply: Corsair RM650 (80 PLUS Gold, fully modular, 650 W)

I’m using a LIAN LI LANCOOL 215 X Black I got in 2021 and deciding it’s time for a case upgrade soon as my 5080 comes in.

What’s the best new mid tower case out there ? Price doesn’t matter.

Hello, all. First post, new here.

To start off, I built this PC with my brother's help in 2021. It had a rough start because the initial MoBo (different brand) was DOA, but otherwise, it picked up and ran well for the most part.

The other day, after transferring some info from my work phone to my PC, I shut it off (or so I thought?). The PC is in a storage room, so it doesn't get much use now because I'm hardly in there, but I noticed that the power in the house had jumped a bit because of a storm. I hadn't gone back into the room since then, and didn't think to check on my PC when it happened.

That PC uses the SSD that contains a lot of important information to me, and so, to minimize the risk of something going awry, I have it hooked up to a surge protector. I can't recall the power supply I use at the moment, but I think it's Corsair (sorry, it's been far too long since I've done any PC building, so time has gotten the better of my skill. Once I figure out how to disassembke the chassis again, I can tell you confidently).

Today, I walked into the room to put up some items for storage, and notice that not only was my PC on, but it was on the settings screen for the motherboard. I really don't know what happened or when it happened.

My SSD isn't detected, and it's not listed in any other SATA slot either.

My boot tab says CSM support is enabled, and Storage Boot Option Control as well as Other PCI Device ROM Priority is UEFI only. It says the last modified setting was LAN PXE boot option ROM, and that's disabled.

Is anyone familiar with a fix, or can they guide me through maybe getting it to work? Or is this truly a worst-case scenario, from the looks of it? My old backup drive was full, so I didn't want to use my PC much at all until I was able to get another one. I'm biting my tongue holding out on the hope that my info isn't scrapped.

Thank you for your time and patience ahead of this. If anymore info is needed, I can try to provide it.

Hey everyone, recently upgraded my CPU to a 9800x3d, now just looking around for a GPU. The currently 50 series prices are out of this world and the 40 series (in germany) is also way too expensive (over 1500€ for a 4080???).

Is the 7900XTX the only option that makes sense when looking a Price / Performance ? They're currently around 850 - 1000 here depending on model. I absolutely don't care about Ray Tracing at all and am not planning on using it. Playing on 1440p 144Hz. Always had Nvidia before but I honestly don't see the prices falling enough for it to be worth it any time soon.

My current build is here: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/QWdXVF

It's finally time to upgrade as I can only run new games on the lowest of settings. I'm thinking of upgrading to a 4070, probably overkill for my current 1080p monitor but it's the cheapest card with a decent amount of VRAM, and then I can upgrade to a 1440p monitor in 6 months or so. Does this plan make sense, or is my CPU (or some other component) going to be a massive bottleneck?

EDIT: Ok I'll upgrade everything around the GPU to start with.

Could be a dumb question but I'm really curious. Right now I'm watching a YouTube video in 1080p. My integrated graphics should be more than capable to decode it so that my dedicated GPU stays quiet. Instead, dedicated GPU is decoding it, ramping up fans, and consuming more power.

Is there a way for me to tell Windows to use iGPU when I'm just chilling on desktop/browser?

EDIT: specs are Ryzen 7 7800X3D + RTX 3080 Ti.

EDIT 2: I'm dumb. I had "Boost Clock" enabled in Precision X1, which basically forced my dGPU to P-State all the time.

I have a 2700x + EVGA 1080… she’s held in well man… 8 years strong

When I bought and built - there was no such phenomena as “shortages”, in all honesty the chip thing was probs real but I don’t think there’s any reason for the “shortages” other than more money…

Anyways , can you guys who have successfully and consistently secured cards at launch, give some tips or a playbook on how to actually get one???

I’ve heard these things sell in minutes… I’ve also heard Founders card are Nvidia/BestBuy exclusive? I really don’t want a founders card (prefer Gigabyte aesthetics) but will take whatever I can…

Any tips appreciated

Also , side note— if playing at low 1080p UE5 games competitively and wanting to solo pc stream … should I veer on the side of TI or non?

Cheers!

I have an AMD 9700X for one week from Amazon. It works well. Honestly, my target is 9800X3D, but it sold out in Amazon and BestBuy. The other places are overprice. However, I just saw Micro Center had in stock with reasonable price. Amazon has 30 days return policy. Should I return it? or is it too much?

I am contemplating converting my existing PC into a NAS server when I finally decide to move on to something newer. I removed the GPU, M.2 SSD, and 4TB mass storage HDD and swapped the CPU cooler for an more reliable NH-U9S. I’ll also remove the existing RGB fans and replace them with the black fans that originally came with the case. Thoughts? I’ve included the link to the concept build and current build below.

Im upgrading my poor old pc to something new Ill be using it 80% of for gaming I play both older and modern games like city skylines, total war, space marine 2, Counter strike, kingdom come deliverance 2 at 1440 to give you an idea of what load ill be putting my systetem through and sometimes i will stream to my friends on discord and have a few tabs of chrome open while I work I have very little knowledge about ram I used to think big number means better but after doing a little research myself I found this was not the case I thought this https://www.gskill.com/product/165/390/1736133296/F5-6000J2636G32GX2-TZ5NR was a good idea to get however its out of stock everywhere where I live I just need a little guidance on what other kits I should consider and their pros and cons against this or should i just wait for this to come back in stock

ripped off my pcie plastic slot when removing my graphics card. didnt even think this was possible to be honest with you

I have another pcie slot i can fit my graphics card into. A couple pins are bent so theres no getting the plastic slot back over the pins. None of the pins of the old pcie slot are touching, so is this a hazard?

If it is, would breaking the pins off the broken pcie slot be a play? How would i even go about doing that?

SOLVED I forgot to uninstall my old drivers and it caused conflicts!

Context: I recently upgraded my GPU from a 1070 to an rtx 2070. Everything went fine but afterward I noticed a lot of problems that were likely present before I decided to look into them, or before the upgrade.

I noticed that my cpu gets quite hot, and I read that for a ryzen 7 5800x it is often normal to be at 90c on heavy loads, but I repasted and recleaned it anyway.

Then, I noticed that my fan cooler no longer changes speeds (it always stays at the first step of the curve no matter what the temp is). I have looked into my bios settings and set a curve that should be boosting the fan at a lower temp, but it didn't change anything. Smart fan control is on and it is properly set to pwm. Four connectors. Hwinfo seems to have (relatively) accurate temps.

Then, I noticed that only sometimes when I reboot, especially from bios, that I won't be able to do any sort of task that requires admin permissions at all. Hwinfo hangs. Can't launch CMD as admin, but can launch it normally. Windows update also fails to check for updates in this state.

Then I noticed that my download speeds are a quarter of the speed they should be. I have not limited anything. Also, opening programs in general is slower.

For some reason user benchmark failed to test the SSD that my OS is installed on.

I also just installed a new 1tb nvme if it matters.

Does anyone have advice? I am worried my cpu is going bad. I am also suspicious something was corrupted in my os but I have no idea how that would happen. Maybe my ssd is failing?
