Hello there so I recently purchased a pre build pc but would like to upgrade the cpu. Wanted to know if it was even possible. Don’t know much about pc building as I’ve been using laptops my whole life. Work in 3d. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

What I have:

I have both of these CPUs and would like your opinions on what you would slot and why? I am prioritizing game performance.

I am passing the other CPU to my son who programs with Unreal Engine 5 for game development and does AI coding in university.

As soon as possible I will upgrade to a RTX 5070Ti and pass my current GPU to my son as well so that is a relevant factor.

Current Use Case:

  • 75% gaming (RDR2, Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077, Baldur's Gate, etc.) *past my competitive shooter years
  • 25% work (all cloud based with no heavy load on local system)

Current Build:

  • Asus Strix X570-E Gaming
  • 32 GB DDR4-3600
  • RTX 4070
  • Corsair RM850x

I’m new to the PC world. A little back story, bought pre built Skytech computer in 2022. Started playing a lot of Marvel Rivals recently and kept getting GPU dumps randomly.

I followed all their instructions and made all the changes. Reached out to my friends who have been in the PC gaming world for years and when I told them I was using a 1060 ti GPU they said I need to upgrade if I’ve done everything to fix it and still getting the error message

I bought a Gigabyte Geforce RTX 4070 Super and a Thermaltake 850W Power Supply to go with it.

I have removed the old GPU & my 600W power supply and installed the new ones.

I can turn on the PC, all fans run, all RGB lights turn on, monitors do not turn on. I have plugged the monitors into all open ports on the GPU and nothing. Idk what to do from here.

Any help would be greatly appreciated 🫡

Edit Moved the Gpu to another slot and seems to be working now

I'm able to get these for $409 from microcenter which is an absolute steal.

I know the Ultra 265k is a hated CPU but for that price and getting a 3nm 20core chip I find a hard time justifying a Ryzen 9700X which was the other option.

My usage is mostly gaming, but simulation heavy and single core heavy. I'm seeing great single core results from the Ultra 265k?

What am I missing?

Plus it seems it has stock DDR5 6400 support?

PC Specs: (All the specs are NEW)

  • CPU: Ryzen 7 9800X3D
  • GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4070 Ti Super
  • Motherboard: ASUS ROG Crosshair X870E Hero
  • RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR5 6000 MHz CL30 + Trident Z5 Royal 6000 MHz CL 28 (tried both same problem)
  • Storage: Crucial T700 Gen 5 SSD (2TB)
  • PSU: Corsair RMx 1200W Shift
  • Monitor: 240Hz 1080p (verfied from my Nvidia and windows settings im on 240HZ so no worries)

Issue: I’m experiencing stuttering and inconsistent frame times in games, despite having high FPS (~400+ on average).

For example : I have around 600 - 800 FPS on Valorant but my game doesn't feel smooth at all !! also in games like Apex and others.. HIGH FPS BUT STTUTTERING

Steps Taken:

  • Updated GPU drivers, chipset drivers, and BIOS.
  • Enabled EXPO Profile 1 for RAM.
  • Disabled overlays (Discord, Steam, etc.).
  • Turned off V-Sync
  • Capped the FPS to 239-240
  • Windows format (Original windows 11 pro)
  • Disabled Resizable BAR from bios
  • Changed the RAM Kits

What I’m Looking For: Any advice on diagnosing or resolving the stuttering issue, especially around CPU optimization, RAM tuning, or other potential bottlenecks. Open to tweaking BIOS settings, adjusting RAM timings, or trying other fixes.

Let me know if you'd like to tweak anything further!

Its my 1st time building a pc, and i am scared. please look over my build list and tell me if I picked out any known troublemakers or if there is a better part for the same price I don't know about.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/N8KWrM

I intend to get a GPU in the 3080-4070 range, but I am waiting to pick one out till after the 50 series is out in a few days. I might be able to find a good GPU on the cheap then.

I am thinking on downgrading the i5-14600k into a i5-14600, its 50$ cheaper.

also, do I need 1000W of power, or can I downgrade that as well?

Edit: I forgot to put my budget and how I will use it, oops. My budget is 1300-1400, and I will be using it for gaming and light work.

I am in the process of building a pc with said gpu. Seemingly it does not need to be connected to the power supply but instead has another set of pins next to the pcie x16 which needs to be inserted. The issue comes from the fact that I don't see anywhere to connect the pins next to the pcie slot on the motherboard (ROG Strix B650-A Gaming WiFi)

I have built a PC with a Ryzen 7 9800X3D with 6000MHz CL30 DDR5 on an Asus ROG Strix B650E-F Gaming Wifi Motherboard.

In the BIOS i have enabled EXPO, but there is another pverclocking / enhancement option which i dont understand:

Instead of leaving my CPU settings on "normal" there is an option to enable "PBO Enhancement".

This isnt buried deep in the AI Tweaker settings or any overclocking menu but is instead listed on the first BIOS page. So i guess this is intended to be enabled by a broad range of users instead of only overclockers.

I tried to find out what exactly happens when turning this on, but on YouTube i didnt manage to find any good explanations.

Either it was some overclocking guide or an old video about Ryzen 7000 or 5000.

This video claims that enabling PBO reduces temperatures AND improves framerates, however this does not make sense to me.

If the CPU does not boost as high to run a bit cooler, how could this result in better results in games?

TL DR: What does PBO enhancement do with my 9800X3D on my Asus motherboard and should i enable it?

Does it just limit the CPUs temperature target or is more overclocking involved?

If so, does this impact the CPUs lifetime?

I recently upgraded from a GTX 1060 to a GTX 4070 Super. With my GTX 1060, I played most of my games on medium settings, which came with the usual downsides of an old graphics cards, such as rough edges and such. After I installed the new GPU and subsequently trying out a few games, every one of them looked, as expected, amazing. However, when I started my PC the next morning, the graphics seemed to have gone back to the old look and my screen had constant brightness flickering. I now upgradet to a new monitor, and at least the flickering is gone.

But the problem with the pixelated and blurry graphics, such as they were with my old GPU, remains. I have tried the following things:

  • clean install of the NVIDIA driver using DDU
  • going through every option in the NVIDIA control panel and the NVIDIA app
  • installing my old GPU and switching back to the new one
  • getting a new PSU
  • switching to my old monitor and back to the new one

All of my games are effected by this, so I can exclude it being the settings of the game.

I'm running out of ideas. Any ideas, possible solutions and causes are welcome.

Cheers

Hi.

I built a gaming PC back in 2019 (with only a few modifications since), so it's due an upgrade. My current setup is this:

  • GPU: RTX 2080 SUPER ROG Strix
  • CPU: Ryzen 7 3700X
  • Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix X570-F Gaming AM4
  • Power Supply: Corsair RM850x, 850W
  • RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3200MHz 32GB (2x16GB).
  • Memory: Kingston KC3000 M.2 2280 NVMe SSD 1TB + Kingston A1000 480GB M.2 SSD
  • CPU Cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE
  • Case: NZXT H7 Flow

The plan is to upgrade the top three of the aforementioned, to the following:

  • GPU: RTX 5080
  • CPU: Either a Ryzen 7 7800X3D or 9800X3D (depending on availability)
  • Motherboard: B650

I was originally planning on just upgrading the GPU, but due to the obvious bottleneck from the older CPU that kinda gets the ball rolling on this whole thing. Will then need a new Mobo as well since I'm currently on an AM4. And I might go for a 4k OLED monitor as well looking at the above upgrades I'm planning - I'm currently on a 1440p.

I built this PC myself back in 2019 and did a bit of research then, but I have no experience in upgrading crucial components as I will be doing now. So my questions are a bit general.

PS: 90% of use case is gaming. No competitive games, single players games pretty much it.

  1. Is my 850W PSU enough? Is my ram sufficient? CPU cooler..? I'm hoping and kinda assuming the answer here is yes..?
  2. CPU; Any significant perfomance gap between the 7800X3D and the 9800X3D? Price difference is negligable, so it's more a matter of availabilty. Might go for the former if it's easier to get a hold of and perfomance in gaming is more or less the same.
  3. Anything else I should keep in mind during this upgrade process? Like reinstalling windows, will I need to do that? Like I said, first time upgrading crucial components, so I'm a bit unclear on things like this.

Any feedback is appreciated :)

My PC was making a strange noise all of a sudden. Took the panel off and saw that the plastic protection the goes on the gpu had tangled in the fans. Luckily it was not too bad and managed to untangle and remove. Hope my misfortune helps someone remember. All good luckily

Its a used gpu with 11444 time spy graphic score when paired with i5 12400T, 10%-15% slower than new. Is this a good price for this 3060ti? Is the r57600 and r57600x a good cpu to pair with this gpu. I need this as a work pc.

I've been checking out 50 series cards and specifically 5070Ti comparing it with 4070Ti Super. Those two are largely the same with 5070Ti obviously being better than 4070Ti Super in AI and both having 16GB vram but I noticed the former having a GDDR7 generation and the latter GDDR6X

I'm not super familiar with the hardware so I have little idea how much it matters. I've seen claims that it achieves up to 3x performance with raytracing and a little rasterization gain as well. Is ram speed ever a bottleneck? 16GB seems like enough for comfortable 1440p, so does faster ram make a noticeable difference?

i have over 1,000 games downloaded onto 2 separate external HDD's. i have yet to build my PC but wanted to get this process of downloading games over with. 1 HDD is 5TB and the other is SSD with 500GB. As you can imagine i have run out of space. My PC I'm building is going to have a 4TB SSD. my question is what the best way to store such a massive library?

App wise i'll be using playnite to access it all.

Should i keep my games on external HDD and only install them to my internal when im ready to play?

Or install a 10+ TB HDD?

For reference I am in the process of making a new build centered around a 5080 gpu and 9800x3d cpu. I have been playing on an ips 1080p monitor since I first build my pc in 2019 and want to make an upgrade. I am currently budgeting $500-$700 for the new monitor. I prefer playing on a 27inch monitor. I currently play mostly competitive fps games and mobas. Should I go up to 1440p or 4k and is an oled monitor worth it? Any and all recommendations would be greatly appreciated and feel free to ask for more info.

Thank you!!!

Hi everybody, as the title says I'm trying to help my gf with building an editing pc. She is a freelance videographer so she needs to be able to edit the footage she shoots (4k). Her current macbook is near the end of its life, it keeps freezing and isn't able to keep up with her demands.

I have been doing a bit of research into what makes a good editing pc. I am most definitely not as familiar with everything as I used to be so here I am asking for your opinion. I would like to know what I should upgrade, downgrade of just change all together.

The build I have come up with so far (Budget around €2000):

  • CPU: Intel Core Ultra 7 265K 3.9 GHz 20-Core Processor
  • CPU Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 5 CPU Cooler
  • Motherboard: MSI B860M GAMING PLUS WIFI Micro ATX LGA1851 Motherboard
  • Memory: Kingston FURY Beast 64 GB (2 x 32 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 Memory
  • Storage: Samsung 990 Pro 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive ($179.99 @ Abt)
  • Video Card: ASRock Phantom Gaming OC Arc A770 16 GB Video Card
  • Case: Fractal Design North ATX Mid Tower Case
  • Power Supply: Corsair RM750e (2023) 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply

Since I'm kinda money bound right now I'd rather not go full out and keep my mobo the same B550M. But I've been out of the PC market for a while now and not sure what's the top notch AMD parts I could replace them with reasonable budget. Yes, AMD GPU as well. I know I know.

So could someone please give me some advice on this? I've looked at 5800x (my mobo should still support that) but I have no idea about GPU's anymore.

Sorry, budget around €600-700 for both. Im on an 1440p 60hz monitor as well. Mostly gaming and other non demanding tasks like putty and ssh in general.

Hi everyone, I’m dealing with a frustrating issue with my PC and need advice to figure out what’s wrong. I’m also planning to upgrade the faulty part(s), but I don’t know which component is causing the problem.

The Issue:

The main problem revolves around the booting phase. Sometimes, I get stuck with a static white dash on a black screen. My PC won’t load the BIOS or Windows.

I built this PC back in 2016, and it worked fine up until late November 2024. Since then, I’ve been dealing with booting issues.

In December 2024, I noticed that while I could sometimes boot the PC, I couldn’t shut it down properly or boot it up again after shutting it down.

Using the Windows shutdown option didn’t work; the PC would just restart.

I tried putting the PC to sleep, but when I woke up the next morning, the computer had turned off by itself. After that, I couldn’t boot it back up properly.

Recently, I installed a new system speaker for the motherboard, which now gives one short beep for booting up. However, after the beep, I hear a static noise (likely from the SSD), and the white dash issue reappears.

I tried downloading a Windows 11 flash .ISO on my Android phone to create a bootable USB, but my phone won’t let me reformat the USB flash drive to exFAT. This has prevented me from testing with a fresh Windows installation.

Here’s my PC parts list for reference: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/P3DMZJ

And some images and videos: https://imgur.com/a/9K94vIU

Additional Observations:

When the PC does boot successfully, everything works fine—no issues with the PSU, GPU, CPU, RAM, SSD, or other components. I’ve used it for programming, virtual machines, gaming, and editing without problems.

I suspect it’s not the PSU, but I do have an older PSU with attached cables in a very tight PC case. Could the cable strain be causing issues?

I’m planning to replace the PC case because the power button sometimes gets stuck. Could this be the root cause?

What I’ve Tried So Far:

  1. Power cycling (holding the power button) – Works occasionally.
  2. Swapping or resetting the CMOS battery – Temporarily fixes the issue.
  3. Reseating the RAM – No noticeable difference.
  4. Checking BIOS settings: The only changes I’ve made are enabling TPM and Intel Virtualization Technology. I’m not sure if Fast Boot is on by default, but I haven’t noticed any difference when trying to disable it.

Potential Causes I’ve Heard About:

Faulty RAM: Didn’t seem to be the issue after reseating it.

Faulty SSD: Possible, but since the PC does boot occasionally, I’m not sure.

Case power button: Could it be causing the restart/shutdown issues?

Context:

I’m a university student and rely heavily on my PC for assignments, so I need to resolve this as soon as possible. Unfortunately, I don’t have the budget to replace multiple components without knowing the exact cause.

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Edit 1:

If I power the PC on and then shut it down quickly in succession, the computer starts up again, but without the usual beep or anything displaying on the screen. However, all the PC fans and LED lights remain operational.

When I attempt to restart it after this, the CPU cooler fan stops spinning, and I am unable to turn off the PC by holding down the power button. The only way to power it off at this point is by flipping the PSU switch.

Edit 2:

I tried disconnecting the SATA cables from the motherboard, but it didn’t make a difference. I also tried starting the motherboard directly with a screwdriver (to rule out the PC case's power button as the issue), but still nothing. Even removing the system speaker didn’t help.

Edit: 3

I tried swapping the power cable to the PSU, but nothing.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Hello there! I was just flashed by all the great and profound advice on this sub, so I dare to share my recent individual struggle with you too, guys. Appreciating ALL advice!

My current setup (being a casual gamer dad with aspirations to play AAA titles like baldurs gate 3 and such any time this year soon):

gpu MSI RTX 2060 SUPER

cpu AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6x 3.6

board MSI B450M Pro-VHD Max

ram CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 32 GB DDR4 3200Mhz C16

screen (WQHD ,144Hz ? ): Samsung C27JG56 27" Curved

  • Is it viable to upgrade CPU and GPU only and stay on AM4? Like buy a Ryzen 7 5700X3D + Radeon RX 7700 XT? Stick to geforce?
  • Or does that make no sense at all? Will an AM4-Board, DDR4 RAM, etc. be a significant bottleneck?
  • Any other suggestions for more reasonable upgrades to get some more care-free years before replacing the whole system?
  • Btw.: Is the screen making sense at all for WQHD or even a budget bottleneck too?

The title speaks for itself. I want to know which cpu would be nice for an RX 6600. I don't care if it is still a bottleneck, i just dont want it to be an i7-3770 amount of bottleneck. I can't even reduce the graphics quality or add fsr to get more FPS, lowest and ultra settings only have a difference of ~4 fps.

Hello guys, I need help. I'm building my first pc and have a trouble - which gpu is better there: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/zFWkwY

ASRock B650M PG Lightning WiFi AMD Ryzen 5 7500F ADATA XPG Lancer 2x16ГБ DDR5 6000МГц AX5U6000C3016G-DCLAWH ID-Cooling SE-214-XT Black Zalman i3 Neo DeepCool PK650D SSD MSI Spatium M480 Pro 1TB S78-440L1G0-P83

I'm choosing between "Palit GeForce RTX 4060 Dual OC [NE64060T19P1-1070D]" and "ASRock Radeon RX 6750 XT Challenger Pro 12GB OC RX6750XT CLP 12GO", which a little more expensive, or maybe even 4060 Ti 16 Gb, but as i heard it's pretty bad investment. And I have very limited budget for 7700 XT or 4070.
