And here I thought Lemmy was too small to have prominent trolls. Thanks for the head's up.

[–] UniversalMonk 1 points 7 hours ago

What do you think was trollish about OP's example? Looks to me like someone was mad that the guy posted an AP News article. So is posting AP News articles considered trollish now?!

[–] [email protected] 71 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Jeez, Universal Monk is still at it? Christ almighty.

[–] [email protected] 63 points 3 days ago (1 children)

He started up another "thenewdonald" comm with a pinned manifesto, dude's certifiable

This community is dedicated to supporting the ideals of freedom, patriotism, and standing up against censorship.

While we honor diverse opinions, we focus on promoting positivity, constructive conversation, and a commitment to the truth. Join us as we build a platform where everyone can share their voice and contribute to shaping the future.

Holy hell, that's hilarious coming from that ragebait fascist weirdo!

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 days ago

It's always either projection or the opposite of what they're saying.

[–] [email protected] 43 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Good. Lemmy should not be a safe space for fascists.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 3 days ago (3 children)

There's already a lemmy instance safe space of fascists, they can go there (the instance is blacklisted by the majority of other instances).

He's a literal fascist. Let Supply Side Jesus sort it out.

[–] AllHailTheSheep 16 points 2 days ago (2 children)

serious question, does shitjustworks have a reputation as a conservative community? I guess I do most of my browsing in the all feed so maybe I just haven't seen it? definitely not the instance I'd like to be on if that's the case 😅

[–] [email protected] 22 points 2 days ago

I think they're referring to the /c/conservative community ON shitjustworks. I certainly have never experienced the instance in general leaning conservative.

sEriOus ConSerVative ComMuniTy

Literally an oxymoron and trust me, I know because I have seen more of it than any of you combined.
It’s mostly all based on: we must make leftist cry. Such seriousness, the very core of it is fundamentally a joke.

No wonder right leaning instance is just shitposts and memes galore. This is basically what modern conservatism is.

[–] RowRowRowYourBot 9 points 3 days ago (1 children)

The sad fact is America needs an actual conservative movement that isn’t just nazis in hiding. Im not sure it can exist anymore as conservatives havent had a “normal” party in 30+ years

[–] [email protected] 13 points 3 days ago (5 children)

Does it though? I mean that would be better than fascism, no doubt, but what are we trying to conserve, really?

No wonder right leaning instance is just shitposts and memes galore.

A conservative visiting lemmy would say the exact same thing. The difference in my mind is that right-wing memes mostly leave me thinking, "No one says or believes that. Fuck you on about?"

Same thoughts I have talking to conservatives IRL. Having only been presented with the most outlandish fruitcakes, they've brainwashed into thinking there are legions of fucking nutcase left-wingers out there.

For left-wingers making fun, yeah, the memes more often reflect what the right actually says and believes.

(Yes, I'm biased, but I try really hard to be objective.)

I saw, and was suspicious of Donald J. Musk. Umonk again! What a dweeb.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

Didn't notice the username at first.

[–] [email protected] 25 points 3 days ago

I'd seen comments about this account before and noted how the phrasing and comment behavior was a dead ringer for Universal Monk's usual bullshit. Glad to see others saw the same thing.

[–] [email protected] 30 points 3 days ago (3 children)

He's a spicy one, I've been poking him for a week or two. He's about to snap, I can feel it in my bones.

[–] [email protected] 28 points 3 days ago (1 children)

How could one tell when that happens?

Dude is bugged out more than an abandoned gas station bathroom.

Did it occur to anyone that "triggering" those who have had or are on the verge of a complete mental break could exacerbate the issues? Like do we really want to be the straw that causes a suicide or mass shooting?

[–] [email protected] 12 points 3 days ago

You ain't wrong but also there is the classic FAFO maxim.

If you monk says stupid shit, we can't expect people NOT to return the favour.

But yea if you sense somebody is not mentally well, then people best to take the high road.

Is there something weird with shitjustworks that I’m not aware of?

[–] [email protected] 23 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Not that I know of, this is just the unhinged rant of a madman.

I think the conservative community was abandoned there, letting it go to seed with people who aren't in that cult.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I think the conservative com there got taken over by mods that aren’t right-wing and now exists to make fun of the right. I don’t particularly care but I can see why rightists might not love this.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Yes I actually tried joining a few conservative communities for rational and productive discourse. The "progressive" mods deleted my good faith posts and comments, brigaded and made outright hostile comments. God forbid people seek common ground and building bridges, rather than do the exact things we get upset with "the other side" for doing. They certainly have me not rethinking my values, but certainly rethinking with whom I want to align for the greatest good of our people as a whole, regardless of political leanings.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Unfortunately the only common ground online right now is toxicity, group-think, and mutual hostility. That said, I honestly think outreach to most people on the right is a waste of time, at least online. I’ve tried to educate people for so long but the cult mentality is too strong to overcome. Maybe a more relationship-centered approach could work, I haven’t tried this. But that would take a huge amount of energy and effort.

There are plenty of conservative spaces online and it’s exceedingly rare where “good faith” and “rational” conversations are possible.

The fact that this one is a satire of that and folks are upset is hilarious to me

It's too friendly. Something's not right.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 3 days ago (1 children)

My experience with UM et al is cavity inducing sweetness of tone while spouting racist BS.

What's the actual lore here?

[–] [email protected] 39 points 3 days ago (4 children)

Universal Monk was a prolific poster around election time; he had tons of alt accounts that all posted stuff purposely made to divide the left.

After his accounts all got banned for trolling and evasion, he started up the Donald J Musk accounts and repeated the cycle, this time posting far-right fascist content and trolling people with lies, disinfo, and general unpleasantness.

It's been an open secret for a while that they were the same user based on the MO, but apparently he fucked up and reused a comment.

[–] [email protected] 28 points 3 days ago

Their favourite m.o. during election season was sealioning and concern trolling, as well as baiting people into breaking the civility rule and then reporting them. It seemed to me like they were taking pleasure from skirting around the letter of the law while violating the spirit of it.

It was completely incredible at the time that they went on for months without getting banned.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 3 days ago (2 children)

The fact that [email protected] had to be created still baffles me

Tbh, it appears to me the guy is in serious mental health crisis. Social isolation isn't great without mh support and tends to exacerbate issues. I'm wondering if it's simply not affordably accessible to them or if it is and they broke so completely they failed to see the necessity. I remember a post they made about breaking up with their gf and that's when the alt-right accounts became highly visible to me.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (11 children)

He also posted about being happily married; there's really no way to know the truth about a serial liar like UM.

Although he has serious "50-something-divorced-guy" energy. If I had to guess, his kids and ex hate him for being a right-wing scumbag and this is how he takes out his anger.

So where is this word-for-word duplicate comment? Can anyone link to it?
