A trade war without giving businesses an alternative.
Tariffs only ever work if there's an alternative option. But he didn't make any effort to do that. So this is going to be a massive self-inflicted wound.

Uh huh. So given Canada, Mexico, China, counting the EU as a single unit, that'd be a concurrent trade war with all four top US trade partners and -- "maybe" -- the UK.

More of a "where" than a "when", but:
Ironically, Greenland has cheaper eggs ($3.93 a dozen) in spite of being so far from anywhere that produces them on an industrial scale that they have to have them flown in at great expense.
And before you get any Trumpian ideas: becoming a part of the US would without a doubt result in higher prices in Greenland as under-regulated US companies take hold.
So what I'm saying is that you should embark on an exciting new career smuggling eggs from Greenland to the US!
At first, this might hurt a little.
Then a lot.
