A community for your defence shitposting needs

Rules

1. Be niceDo not make personal attacks against each other, call for violence against anyone, or intentionally antagonize people in the comment sections.

2. Explain incorrect defense articles and takes

If you want to post a non-credible take, it must be from a "credible" source (news article, politician, or military leader) and must have a comment laying out exactly why it's non-credible. Low-hanging fruit such as random Twitter and YouTube comments belong in the Matrix chat.

3. Content must be relevant

Posts must be about military hardware or international security/defense. This is not the page to fawn over Youtube personalities, simp over political leaders, or discuss other areas of international policy.

4. No racism / hatespeech

No slurs. No advocating for the killing of people or insulting them based on physical, religious, or ideological traits.

5. No politics

We don't care if you're Republican, Democrat, Socialist, Stalinist, Baathist, or some other hot mess. Leave it at the door. This applies to comments as well.

6. No seriousposting

We don't want your uncut war footage, fundraisers, credible news articles, or other such things. The world is already serious enough as it is.

7. No classified material

Classified ‘western’ information is off limits regardless of how "open source" and "easy to find" it is.

8. Source artwork

If you use somebody's art in your post or as your post, the OP must provide a direct link to the art's source in the comment section, or a good reason why this was not possible (such as the artist deleting their account). The source should be a place that the artist themselves uploaded the art. A booru is not a source. A watermark is not a source.

9. No low-effort posts

No egregiously low effort posts. E.g. screenshots, recent reposts, simple reaction & template memes, and images with the punchline in the title. Put these in weekly Matrix chat instead.

10. Don't get us banned

No brigading or harassing other communities. Do not post memes with a "haha people that I hate died… haha" punchline or violating the sh.itjust.works rules (below). This includes content illegal in Canada.

11. No misinformation

NCD exists to make fun of misinformation, not to spread it. Make outlandish claims, but if your take doesn’t show signs of satire or exaggeration it will be removed. Misleading content may result in a ban. Regardless of source, don’t post obvious propaganda or fake news. Double-check facts and don't be an idiot.

Yeah, but the way things are going soon it will be cheaper to buy a B-52 to live in than a house.

You could definitely make a sweet conversion in there. Just need to figure out how to park it next that to that nice quiet creek.

But I still want a B-52 for christmas

[–] [email protected] 23 points 1 day ago (3 children)

We have The B-52s at home.

Rock lobster.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago

"This lobster sure is tough..."

Imagine the amazing globe trotting townhouse you could build inside of a B-52!

Yeah but you need 18000 feet of bullshit to land it, I wait patiently for my Sikorsky winnebago kit to come in the mail

The Marine Corps and Navy have already retired their H-53Ds and the big Es are on their way out. A lot more shoulder room in one of those compared to the H-34s.

Unfortunately, contrary to popular belief, military helicopters don’t actually run on kerosene or avgas

They run on snow-shovels of cash flung into the intakes as fast as you can manage

Being powered by three turbines the E chugs cash, but you do have a max of 15,000 available horsepower.

Should ever become rich, like fuck you money rich, I'm buying a PBY Catalina and turning it into an RV of sorts - not an original idea. There was a company out of Australia that was modernizing them. Not as roomy as a big bomber, but has a ruggedness and the go anywhere capabilites unique to flying boats. And I fucking love the look of the wings over the fuselage.

That sounds so cool. I've been jealous of Larry and Sergey (Google founders) ever since I read that they converted a 747 into a townhouse like 20 years ago. I know that's a super unpopular thing on this platform, but man, it would be such a dream to see the whole world, and be completely comfortable for all of the flights. You could offset the carbon footprint a little by bringing along all of your friends and family.

Does this plane mostly consist of wheels? Those tires are very huge.

[–] Tar_alcaran 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That's mostly the angle. The wheels on a B-52 are big, but you can still look over them (very accurate "I stood next to one once" description). I'd say no taller than 1.5m?

Quick, ask on the War Thunder forum for some spec sheets!

Last Christmas by Bham!

Verse:

Last Christmas, I bought you a plane,

A B-52, thought it’d keep you entertained.

But it turns out, it’s not just for fun,

A hundred-year commitment weighs a ton.

Chorus:

Last Christmas, I gave you my plane,

But the very next day, you gave it away.

This year, to save me some stress,

I’m buying you socks and a matching vest.

There needs to be some lines about bombs

[–] [email protected] 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I wonder if there will still be DC-3s flying commercially by that time? I imagine the Basler turboprop conversions will be.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

AN-2 will still be viable in 1000 years

And pretty much everything Dehaviland has ever made.

Piper Cubs will probably outlive us all, too.
