Summary

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy dismissed U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s proposal for a rapid peace deal with Russia, arguing it would lead to a “loss” for Ukraine.

Trump, who has repeatedly claimed he could resolve the war in 24 hours, aims for a quick end, but Zelenskyy insists that a rushed settlement would compromise Ukraine’s independence.

Speaking in Budapest, Zelenskyy also rejected Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s call for a cease-fire, citing failed attempts in 2014.

Additionally, he warned of North Korean troop involvement in Ukraine if Western allies don’t increase political pressure on Pyongyang.

Trump's 24-hours war solving: "Ukraine is now part of Russia"

Trump to Baltic states: "I am altering the deal, pray I do not alter it further."

Just kidding: "You better say nice things about me or you're next!"

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 weeks ago

The Baltics are in a much stronger position than Ukraine. They are in Nato already, and are geographically important as a buffer to the only Nato members who actually take Russia as a serious threat (Norway, Sweden, Finland and Poland.) Tactically, air and sea defence of the Baltics is externally feasible, and the Baltics nations have focused on building land defense over the recent years. If you combine this with the obvious Russian war fatigue, and lack of resources, it is clear the Russia doesn't have the capacity to invade the Baltics over the next two years at least, even if the Belarusians participated.

All of this becomes even harder if the Russians are gifted Ukraine and have to occupy it militarily.

Good job to everyone sacrificing Ukrainian and Palestinian lives to send a message to the Democrats!

[–] [email protected] 70 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Don't forget all the American lives yet to be sacrificed!

[–] [email protected] 34 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

But at least they stopped the genocide in Palestine!

[–] [email protected] 30 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

Huh, that's weird, .ml is strangely quiet in this thread, you'd think they would have something to say, considering how much they screamed the last 3 months.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I saw the thread about the complaints of voter fraud suddenly stopped. Same here. The calls to end the war have all but disappeared.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 weeks ago

Mission accomplished.

[–] Klear 5 points 2 weeks ago

They're waiting for new material.

Oh they'll be in here. Their current narrative is that this is all Harris' fault and also it wouldn't matter if they all voted for Harris because she still wouldn't have won.

One of them told me it wouldn't have mattered if they had all voted for Harris multiple times.

Somehow if they had all voted for Harris 300,000,000,000 times, Trump would still have won.

"Why dont the democrats focus on left causes? We won't for them until they do!"

"So you demand everybody base their policy on an historically very unreliable voting bloc at the expense of all other voters?"

"Obviously!!!"

The actual creator of Lemmy who I believe is a .ml admin as well, banned me from lemmy.ml because I dared to say that now you have fascism in America because people didn't go out to vote just to protest

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 weeks ago

By stopped I’m assuming you mean “finished”?

[–] [email protected] 13 points 2 weeks ago

Just one-issue voters sticking it to the union as usual.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah but they at least got to give kamela the middle finger!

I often see the argument "Which part of your country would you be willing to cede in the name of peace?"

Normally this would be a valid argument, but in trumps case, I'm sure he'd gladly cede California or some other blue state if it meant he gained something from it. He has no scruples or integrity, and thinks other heads of state are the same.

I can’t wait for Texas to leave. They say the want to, fuckin’ do it pussies.

Edit: yes, I know there are many innocent people there, but it’s not like the federal government is protecting them now anyway.

I would gladly be willing to cede Alabama, Mississippi and Texas for peace.

With a slightly growling Chihuahua I saw across the street.

Or like, a baby kitten that wanted my ball of string.

You know what? This conversation is concerning me, here, take my Texas, please!

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

As a Canadian I accept California as our next province.

[–] neidu3 6 points 2 weeks ago

I'm sure a lot of California (except from the meth counties) would like that too these days.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 weeks ago

Wait take Illinois too we're good with it I promise

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Saxony. Although it's basically controlled by Russia already.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 weeks ago

Add Thüringen too.

Dumb question, how would the electoral college be reallocated if a large state like California left?

[–] Klear 4 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

It needs to be realocated even now and it isn't. No reason to think a secession would change things.

Solving a complex geopolitical situation involving two nations at war...in 24 hours. I wonder if he was lying?

[–] [email protected] 20 points 2 weeks ago

Wait till he gets to Gaza.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 weeks ago

I mean... it's been more than 24 hours by now, hasn't it?

Ukraine don't want to give up territory. Russia demands territory to end the war. Trump has offered to resolve this in 24h. The conclusion seems clear: Trump has to offer Russia some parts of the US in exchange for releasing the occupied regions in Ukraine?

Interesting video about the subject from Ryan McBeth

[–] [email protected] 17 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

Ryan is good explaining how military operates, how weapon works, but this is really about predicting what trump will do, and frankly this is much harder to do.

We talk about common sense, it is a non brainier, as helping Ukraine stop Russia is the most beneficial thing for the US and the West. As he pointed out, Ukraine losing likely will bring war to the rest of the Europe and Taiwan, but trump might not care.

What worries me is that so far trump never stood up against putin, he insulted many world leaders, but never did that to putin.

The reason likely is that he was almost bankrupt and putin help him get on his feet, he has a huge debt to him.

I also link to Anders Puck Nielsen https://youtu.be/gOwjmKMmkV4 he is generally more familiar with strategy and so far was on point in his comments (I also believe Ryan is watching him too). Again, we are trying to predict what trump will do, which is not as easy and his decisions seem to be more about what gives him immediate benefit.

The absolute worst scenario that could happen is that the NATO collapses. I hope that won't happen.

Trump has been a Russian asset since the 80s. His ties to Russian criminal organizations have been known since then, but the FBI has never been able to get any charges to stick.

The CIA believed that he gave Putin information about current intelligence operations and agents against Russia during his presidency enough to request an inquiry which led to the FBI raid on Mar a Lago, where they found confidential documents on CIA activity amongst all the other confidential documents illegally held there after his term.

He will side with Russia, guaranteed.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The CIA has good reason to believe Trump gave information, because in the span of several weeks after a private meeting with Putin while Trump was president, a whole pile of their Russian and Eastern European intelligence agents and assets dropped off the face of the Earth or wound up dead.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 weeks ago

Exactly what I was referring to. It's one of the reasons that the CIA requested the FBI inquiry into Trump that resulted in the raid on Mar a Lago.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 weeks ago

but this is really about predicting what trump will do

Trump plays pigeon chess — it knocks the pieces over, craps on the board, and flies back to its flock to claim victory.
