Reminder that QAnon Shaman is running for Congress in Arizona's 8th district as a Libertarian. That doesn't exactly describe a leftist agitator.
It feels like he should be disqualified from holding office.
He should be but the 14th Amendment keeps him out only if he previously took an oath to the Constitution. You can go all out full shooting war against the federal government but as long as you weren't already elected or appointed or whatever, you're still eligible.
He was in the military and therefore swore an oath. He's absolutely disqualified under the 14th amendment.
That is my interpretation too. It feels wrong or at least lacking.
Now if only we could make changes to it somehow... Like amend it or something?

If you had asked me January 5th what would happen if a mob tried to storm the capital and attack congress, I would have said they would be mowed down by machine gun fire.
After January 6th, I remember thinking "well shit, if people had actually showed up we really could have stormed area 51."
Y'all seem to be forgetting that the reason this was a coup attempt is because the national guard was never called in despite officials knowing of the attack.
They literally paved the way for the magats to get inside.
A lot of Capitol police fought like fucking lions and are responsible for the survival of most of congress.
But there were also a few collaborators in there, make no mistake.
That one cop, I'm actually upset I forget the name of, that lead a group away from congressmen by baiting them into a trap will forever be a hero to me.

Maybe it's different for Capitol Police, but for most cops being a decoy isn't a part of their job description. In that moment, he wasn't acting as a cop. He was acting as a hero.
Not only were they not called in, but we all knew it was coming in advance. I refuse to beleive people on reddit knew about it but the government didn't. They should have been set up in advance with at least a bit more than they had.
But they didn't do that, and when people called for back up they were told "Lol no"
Yet if people try to peacefully protest against cops killing black people they get demonized and assaulted

Storming the capitol will get you shot with overwhelming force... just not if you're a far-right extremist - that kind of treatment is historically reserved for the leftists and minorities fighting for equal treatment.
And Babbit has been made into a right-wing martyr. Secret Service took their job seriously and fired once the house chamber itself was being actively breached. Capitol Police were in a shit position without backup, and the backlash against the whistleblowers who called out the delayed National Guard response was disgusting
Not gonna lie, I was watching horrified that police were about to do the thing on live TV. The emotions jumping between "they're just letting this happen??" and "Omg this is about to be bad" with each corridor the insurrectionists entered was too much.
