I understand both states don’t have reciprocity with any other states but I have a bit of a weird situation… I have my journeyman license in NY and I want to get it in NJ. Problem is, I didn’t go through a formal apprenticeship where you take classes since I was organized into a union. So while I have the required documented experience, I don’t have the required classroom training. I’m going to make some calls tomorrow to find out but figured I’d see if anyone on here could give some insight first. Would I have to take classes and pretty much go through an apprentice before I apply for my NJ license? Thanks in advance!

I work at a solar company doing main panel upgrades, batteries, transfer switches, and pretty much anything having to do with residential electricity. I started here installing solar panels and made the switch to electrical after one of the helpers at my job quit. I have zero electrical experience prior. I worked as a helper for about six months and the past two and a half years since I’ve worked as a lead electrician and I love it. My dilemma now is, I want to make that next step into becoming a journeyman so I can start getting big boy money but I have no time to go to school at the moment (I work 45-55+ hours a week). Do I need school if I’m working under a licensed electrician and I’ve worked the 8000 hours? I haven’t seen or done the math yet on how many hours I have but I know I’m close with how much I’ve worked the past few years. Any help how be greatly appreciated.

It the worst. I took a job for a new contractor. I laid out how I work before we started and let him know I had no problem going elsewhere if he didn’t like my pricing. I got the first draw for the job and on my end everything went smoothly until I sent him the final bill. This joker didn’t even pay the estimate. He didn’t pay the plumber either. Now he is threatening me with violence. Good thing I know a thief is nothing more than a coward. I’ve dropped screenshots of text from the customer saying she’s mad we didn’t get paid along with screenshots of his threats on his google business page review. If y’all would like to drop some stars help me out! Here’s a link to his business page. I live in a small town and have an amazing customer base behind me. I hope y’all never have to deal with human waste such as this man.

For example on the left side of the panel it goes abc but on the right it’s cba? Do you go brown orange yellow on the left then yellow orange brown on the right? Do you flip your circuiting number or keep it the same? Seems to be different opinions on the job I’m on?

Hey guys… I’m a 19 year old who’s currently in a program for law enforcement and am coming to the end of my semester in April of ‘24. My goal is to attend BCIT in September of ‘24 and do their 6 month foundation course as I’m really green and virtually have no skills whatsoever.

This leaves me a six month gap between school years and was wanting some advice as to what would be the best to fill that time.

Do you think I should go door knocking at different electrical companies and try to land a role as a labourer/apprentice? Or would I be better off waiting until I attend that program and tackle the apprenticeship once I get done the foundational course so I look more attractive to potential employers?

I am experienced at installing vfd for single motor Applications but I’m wondering if it’s permissible To install a single To three phase vfd for a three Phase control Panel that serves multiple smaller types loads (heat elements, blower motor, compressor, lights, etc)?

I added 1 smoke/co in the basement (not wired)

And I added garage door outlets and another outlet circuit in an unfinished garage.

Total for supplies was about 225. I'm wondering if charging 350 for a family member is a fine price. He isn't expecting me to do stuff for free, and I typically just take the cost for work out of the rent I owe him. Just wanted a quick opinion please

I currently do electrical maintenance and my house panel is blowing breakers (1971 stablock) and I called the power company to ask if I can have any electrician do it and they said yes, but if I’m doing electrical maintenance can I do it even though I’m not a licensed electrician?

My girlfriend wants to get a portable power station (Anker C1000 or F1200) to run 3 small items in the event of power outages. Her router, VOIP phone and POE antenna (not Starlink). Total output about 7 watts. She's not going through the panel and just plans to plug those 3 devices into the C1000 and run it backup mode. Does she need to install a transfer switch to protect linemen working to restore power?

Do any of you code gurus know if a handhole in a light pole could be at 10’ above ground? I have an owner that wants to do this in his parking lot to avoid copper theft.
