I regularly refer to Lemmy as "Communist Reddit".

I was just talking about that same comparison yesterday! There are some big business interests in keeping older industries going. Whether it's oil and gas, meat, or whatever. It takes a ton of political pressure over time to make change, but the truly biggest driver is cost. Once the alternative becomes cheaper, it will snowball.

Mr. Honda (74)... Soba Master Mr. Takeshita (81)... Mr. Fujii (68)

These are the people Japan considers "middle-aged"?! I've heard that Japanese people have long lifespans, but calling an 81 year-old "middle aged" seems a bit optimistic.

My little guy has a $750 case of nervousness.

At his first vet appointment, they thought they heard a heart murmur. So we had to do two follow up appointments and scans. Turned out he was just nervous at the vet.

Honestly, best case scenario.

Linda MacMahon is literally the Secretary of Education.

You typically don't eat your 3d prints though. I hope...

I was trying to explain this to my son yesterday. He's in middle school but already has a career path picked out. I was like, "dude, I didn't even know my current job existed until a decade after I graduated from college, you don't have to have this all figured out yet. Plans change, life gets in the way. Just go with it."

I assume it's purely for her to get US citizenship. She posts lots of thirst trap pictures on Instagram.

My divorced 43 year old friend just did this. He's got a smoking hot 21 year old Filipino fiance. It's weird as fuck.

Neptune's kiss... always unexpected. Never longed for.

And then if she chooses the cheesy pickup line:

Girl, are you made of iron and animal bones? Because you've got all the elements to forge a bond stronger than a Viking axe.

Unfortunately for our entertainment, her Facebook profile has been entirely purged of her MAGA history.

Transcript:

I'm officially unemployed. Today I was RIF'd from the government. It's such a surreal and humbling moment; one that I knew was coming but secretly thought and wished would never happen. I started working for SBA in 2010 during my senior year of college. I came in as an emergency hire and was placed on the student career experience program. I worked in accounts payable for 14 years before moving to contracting in October. I worked remotely since 2017 when I was placed on a reasonable accommodation after shattering my kneecap while walking into work. I worked countless hours from different hospitals I was inpatient in from 2017-2023. I relied on work to get me through many difficult times in my life while I was alone in the hospital or angry at the universe. It kept me mentally sane for many years and gave me a purpose in life. I took a lot of pride over the team I managed and the work that we produced. I wouldn't change one thing about my federal career and hope one day I can continue it.

For now, it is time to figure out what is next for me. To all my fellow government workers, I want to say it's been a privilege being able to work with you. The government is full of a lot of highly intelligent and hard working individuals. I know that we will all be ok after the dust has settled and make a game plan for what is next. I have met so many great people in the government and hope the best for everyone!

For everyone that knows someone in the federal workforce, please check in on them. This is a scary and sad time for most of us and we are not ok at the moment and are faced with some scary unknown challenges that we have not faced before.

Update from this post yesterday: https://sh.itjust.works/post/34622756

Trumper has since scrubbed her Facebook page of all things political, including pictures of her husband in a MAGA hat. She is now claiming to never have made political posts.

Transcript:

I'm posting this not to start a debate over politics but just for a generalized statement so please do not come at me or try to start a debate. I do not nor have I ever talked politics for the sheer reason that everyone has an opinion and is absolutely entitled to that opinion; that's why we vote and I am not about to go at it with someone because our beliefs arent the same. I have recently had too many people flooding my text messages or DMs forcing their opinion. I even had one friend end our friendship because I politely stated I do not talk politics and I was not going that rabbit hole with her.

The fact of the matter is like it or not the president is who it is. I have worked for the federal government for 15 years and it is a scary thing right now. [Redacted] also military and we don't know what our jobs will look like in the future. We're rolling with things as they come out and will adjust as needed but a lot of things I receive or read from a lot of posts have somewhat taken me by surprise and do not wish to be apart of it.

I can honestly say I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as a federal worker.

Right now I'm working on my resume. I'm open to work, preferably in finance as I have my accounting degree. If you know of anyone hiring please let me know.

As I have mentioned before, please do not post your political beliefs as I am not interested in debates or opinions. During this time, please remember that government employees are workers at risk of losing their job. It's scary as most of us have dedicated our careers to government and government operations is all that most of us know and now will be forced to look outside for other options and start over. No matter which side everyone is one, no one wants to lose their job so please be mindful of this. Remember that government employees are humans too and it is a very scary time for most of us and our families.

Nineteen Republican attorneys general have called on Costco Wholesale to abandon its diversity, equity, and inclusion policies, citing concerns about about discrimination and legal risks

This comes after 98% of the U.S. retailer's shareholders last week voted against a proposal requesting a report on the risks tied to its diversity and inclusion initiatives, pushing back against the growing scrutiny such policies face.
