I would have thought the something is wrong category would catch all here.

Maybe there should be a miscategorized option or similar.

Three dots in the corner. Click to report the job, pick the category it falls into.

Believe it or not: people do eventually see reports at some level.

Makes me think that platforms banning Trump after Jan 6 were just kissing up to Biden coming in. Maybe there is just a cycle of capitalist sucking up.

You're right, but also have been proven wrong. This is politics, and apparently the most effective version at that is lying and saying things that more people than we would think believe.. and vote for.

You'd be surprised to hear that most software devs i talk to think the benefits of ai are overrated. The problem is the bubble keeps growing and growing.

.. also leads to worse for all in the meantime.

We're getting it shoved down our throats too. We get asked to use ai to enhance things.. that no one wanted fixed with ai.

The fact that they changed the name to Azure Linux still upsets me. I get upset easily.

We use it at work. Seems mostly fine and similar enough to old CentOS and RHEL.

+1.

I wish we had type c but all cables were labeled with clear functionality from the start. I don't like data/power only cables.

Warning: talking out of my butt a bit so take with a grain of salt.

I wonder if you could look at micropython. You could implement a unix like world on top of micropython then use micropython as the layer where a normal os would be.

It would be miserable and likely impossible to be fully unix compliant but could be a fun thing to play with. I would be amazed if it ever somehow could run native unix binaries.

If you have bags, you could cut one open, pop in an infuser (or reusable metal ball thing) and roll on.

Lots of people mention loose leaf tea but for people who barely know the difference between types of tea, it doesn't seem to come out cheaper than cheapo bags.

I guess I'm a price guy over flavor lol

I'm guessing this is a cost thing. You don't need to pay for fact checking anymore.

.. still obnoxious and pushing us towards a dead echo chamber internet. Get ready for AI personalities voting on community notes.

Hey folks,

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I'm printing PETG (https://kingroon.com/collections/petg-filament?) on my Neptune 3 Plus. It's sort of like it starts (almost) ok, sticks to the plate just fine, then a few layers up it seems to almost have inconsistent extrusion (or maybe even trouble pulling the filament?) leading to holes, etc. till the model just falls apart. See linked photos for about where I give up each time.

I'm printing with Cura and 240C printing, 90C on the build plate. 45mm/s (I've gone down from 60mm/s). Retraction on, no z-hop. 60% fan, though I've tried it with 20% and 100% fan as well.

The filament is in a dryer at 55C. Funny enough I printed basically perfectly (without drying, straight out of the bag) with default settings the first time I printed. The second time and on, have had this problem... and have had it in the dryer.

Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Edit: In case its useful, I'm printing this piece: https://file.io/D9jxYq4KOrL7 which is a small remix of a piece from https://www.printables.com/model/130507-bolt-action-pen-for-pilot-g2-cartridges

Finally got around to making a botchmania ending. Enjoy!

For example, I opt out of all emails from a website. A year later they make a new newsletter and auto subscribe all to it.

I login, hit unsubscribe, then report as spam in my email client.

I figure auto adding me is more/less spamming me. Do y'all agree?

At one point I thought that if the Government was giving money for EV chargers, they would be either at-cost or free to use.

One of the first built was at a Flying J truck stop in Ohio.

I looked on plug share and found one in Hubbard, OH and it's 67c per kwh (https://www.plugshare.com/location/582660). The average cost of electricity in that area is less than 15c per kwh. At that kind of price, gas could be a cheaper option.

Why does the government subsidize in a way where already wealthy companies get public money to build chargers, and make a ton more money off the rest of us?

(This is not a political statement at all. I just don't understand why public money goes to make certain private folks more wealthy. I figure I must be missing something).

Thanks for your thoughts!

Anyone having a new issue where swiping from the left to go back to the thread list from a thread doesn't load properly and instead shows a black screen for a second or so.

Screen recording: https://imgur.com/a/bvzkyfu

All animations in the settings are enabled.

So I was using a wood sealer (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01AQTX3XU) on my newly built catio. Unfortunately I didn't notice how much I had sprayed on the adjacent window.

Now I have cloudy/foggy windows (https://imgur.com/a/TKD9wim). I've tried cleaning them with:- - - -

  • water via the hose directly on the window.. very little progress
  • windex.. very little progress
  • dish soap followed by host.. very little progress
  • vinegar.. very little progress

Any ideas for what might get this stuff off easily?---

I wouldn't be as worried about them going out of business and me being stuck with half broken car software.

Anyone here use fidelity (https://www.fidelity.com/)? I had to call to get something done with my account and thought it was weird that they have you (more/less) T9 dial your password into the system, though its not real T9 in that (for example) one press of 2 would mean either a,A,b,B,c,C,2. They say for special characters just give a * sign.

Any thoughts on if that is safe on their part? It seems weird to me since they either need the password in plaintext on their end or I guess the hash of the T9 version of the password which would be less secure anyways because of: all one case and only one type of 'special character'.

And yes: before you ask this was 100% the actual fidelity phone number: +1 800-343-3548

In their defense they did ask for other verification information once I got a person, but still felt really weird.

Any thoughts on the security of this mechanism?

Mlmym instance? (self.main)

Hey folks,

Is it possible to have a mlmym endpoint for sh.itjust.works? Maybe old.sh.itjust.works?

I know the lemmy ui has come a decent ways.. but sometimes I just want to look at it like old reddit.

lemmy.world has one: https://old.lemmy.world/

If not: no big deal. if so: would be cool.

Looking for a keyboard (self.mechanicalkeyboards)
submitted 10 months ago by csm10495 to c/[email protected]

It's a sad day: My previous mechanical keyboard more/less died. Multiple keys just stopped working and even upon replacing them with new switches: still dead.

So anyways I'm looking for a keyboard with some specific features:

Anyone know of one that is:

  • full size (extra macro keys would be a bonus!)
  • rgb backlit
  • has at least one usb port on it (so it has a builtin hub of sorts) Super bonus if it also has a type c passthrough port.
  • user-swapable cherry-mx compatible switches. (bonus if it comes with browns)
  • bonus points if it can run open-source firmware
  • bonus points if it has a volume spinner-thing

I know its asking a bunch, but hey if someone has seen one of these, or has ideas: let me know.

Budget: idk, but I'd be willing to pay probably $200 ish if it was a perfect match and seemed legit.

Thanks in advance

Hey folks,

Does anyone know of an app (FOSS or otherwise) that has a built-in REST-server to get current device info?

I'd like to be able to hit the API from within my local network to get info including:

  • Free space vs used space
  • Battery percentage

Why?

I have an old Android device that sits in the closet as a Syncthing node. It does some other random stuff too. I don't really want to have to get up and look at it to find out certain information. I already have a VNC server running on it. I even have a (sketchy) SSH server on it that I currently call df -h on to programmatically get free space info. The SSH server has some weirdness where it seems to stop working after some time, among other oddities. Also it can't get battery level afaict.

I imagine this is possible using ADB, but I don't really want to have to always leave the device in wireless ADB mode or manually put it in that mode each time; unless that is easier than I think.

Thanks!

Obligatory: this was yesterday (1/20/24)

In the US 1/20/24 was the last day to buy stamps at the old postage rate. The flat rate for postcards was 51 cents and was going up to 53 cents the next day.

They have a concept called forever stamps for regular letters and a similar thing for postcards. If you buy them today at today's price, you can use them at any time in the future regardless of price increases. So if you'll mail letters or postcards, they're a good deal and future investment.

So anyways we ran to the post office at 4pm. The office was closed except for the self service machine. We need about 90 postcard stamps so I figured I'd get 100 to have some extras for the future.

I was so excited to see postcard stamps for 51 cents. I took a picture: https://i.imgur.com/M997Nfg.jpeg

So we bought 100, which happened to be the most we can buy at once.

At that point the machine began printing 100 individual 51 cents stamps.

Now you may have noticed the issue: it wasn't 100 postcard stamps, but rather 100 stamps each saying 51 cents of value.

It took a long time as each stamp was printed one by one, but I got to stand there sad as I didn't get my forever postcard stamps.

Now to mail my postcards, I'll need to buy 2 cents of postage each (or more when it goes up again). I'll be more careful next time.

Tldr: I bought 51 cent stamps instead of postcard stamps for 51 cents.

Edit: commented with an update after a few days.
