This reminds me of when I was in university and overheard an Apple salesman telling a young woman how much better Mac’s are than PCs because they don’t get viruses or malware. He went on to say you can install windows on it and not get any viruses/malware because can’t get them on a Mac

What always annoyed me about that claim was that mac isn’t magically virus safe but rather was so unpopular that nobody would have bothered to code malware to run on it.

I don't know shit about healthcare and even I go mad listening to people's bs. I'm probably not much better myself, but I at least don't go around talking about the benefits of vitamin megadoses and such.
Eh, for me it's the "common knowledge things" that people think are right. Tetanus isn't caused by rusty metal and there's nothing wrong with falling asleep if you're conscussed if you've already got medical attention.
I'm grateful I'm only ankle deep in the medical world, I'm sure there's plenty I "know" that is wrong.
Oh god I don't have any medical training, but have access to unimaginable healthcare resources and literature and technology through my job.
The little bit that just trickles into my lap through work is enough for me to see just how wrong most of us non-medical professionals are, and how much some medical professionals still debate some things.
The part that blows my mind most of the time is how often there isn't a direct identified causation of illness.
Since the pandemic I have realised that doctors are just people as well and will make up bs as it suits them as well. Like those fake mask exemptions and what not…
At my last dermatologist appointment he asked me unsolicited „so how many times did you receive the poison injection?“ First I thought he was referring to chemo because we were talking about my cancer. But then he clarified he meant the Covid vaccine.
That's an appointment I would've walked out of and made sure the doc didn't get paid for.
Any of this info I can look up on? One of my friends studying science told me everything I knew about evolution is wrong and/or still being debated so I wonder what else I have wrong.
That's far too broad of a request. In general, Wikipedia is an excellent source for most topics.
"Studying science" is also very limited in telling me what he knows about evolution. I also would caution against thinking of your knowledge as being incorrect or debated - science expects errors in understanding, and when new research uncovers new information the existing theories change

As I‘m eager to learn: How would you explain (LI5) what a VPN is? I was never happy about this „it’s like a tunnel through the internet“ trope.
I've only really had this happen to me once. Was having breakfast at iHop and I could hear a group of girls talking about some technical thing I don't really remember exactly right now, but I do remember thinking "everything you're saying is wrong" and getting increasingly agitated wanting to go over there and say something. I didn't actually do so, but God damn did I want to.

It's crazy how little know about hardware. It's gotten better over the years for sure, but still drives me wild that people say things like "bro Intel is better than amd bro" without talking about benchmarks, price/performance.
I once heard a gamer content creator say "I always go Intel bro, you need to get one for your next PC" as if the brand name is the thing that matters.
Or another pet peeve is when they say "why is your i5 better than my i7" without thinking about release years. Yeah I'm a nerd /end rant

To be fair, I think the product naming schemes for Intel and AMD sucks to the point that non enthusiasts can be left confused.
Its what happens when you have several decades building brand mindset. It ALWAYS irks me when someone asks for buying something via brand.
Its one thing to buy a brand because of customer service, and i get it. Its bad to buy a brand because of the mindset that the product is "better", as that gives companies a free pass on releasing shit products and getting away with it.
I detest the "I stick with X brand" kind of mindset. You should always research. Bare minimum you can do (that goes a long way) is to ask online

So I always just assume there’s someone who will walk by and hear what I’m saying and react like the meme.
Then I remember that whoever would do that is kind of a loser, and should just leave people alone to talk about shit they enjoy
