I don't know what it is about "two weeks" but the right seems to have figured out that this span of time is the exact right amount for people to either stop caring or for them to forget.
And just to make sure it works, they come up with some new outrage every week. Keep the "news" cycle churning.
He's been doing this forever and nobody calls him out on it. It was 2 weeks to find out the truth about Obama's birth certificate back in 2011...
