War on concepts are an American pastime. Drugs, terror, crime, and now immigrants.
I tried explaining that to a couple of people a few days ago. It's not just rhetoric, there's an actual reason they like to declare a "War" on various things like drugs, terror, etc. By declaring a "War," it allows the government to access certain policies/ strategies that are only available during wartime. When they declared a War of Drugs, it allowed law enforcement to get extra federal money, as well as justification for militarizing the local cops.
In this case, it allows HitlerPig to use some old wartime powers act, even though its not a war, and the people hebis targeting arent actually combatants. Its just an thin excuse to deny them rights, as if they were enemy combatants on a battlefield.
That’s not how any of this works.
Yes, it is. They use these "Wars" on issues to increase their control of the population. The "War on Drugs" encouraged the militarization of local police, the "War on Terror" encouraged the intrusive surveillance of citizens, the "War on Illegal Immigration" allows the president to invoke the Alien Enemies Act.
Characterizing these issues as "Wars" sends the message that they will go to extremes to achieve their oppressive objectives.
