That was what I call sticking with the bit.

Brilliant fucking work right there. You know they were writing all that out and just cackling with every response.

I'm just amazed nobody seemed to catch on until the end

Anyone who caught on would either go along with it or just watch the show. 12000 notes suggest a whole bunch of likes and reblogs.

Oh, I'd have definitely joined in. I see something like that, and it's like smelling cookies baking, you just gotta get in there and enjoy it.

Now THIS is trolling!

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 week ago

Yeah, that’s not very typical. I’d like to make that point.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You can either assume this person is trolling, or know that somewhere out there, there is someone this dumb and respond sincerely just incase they, or someone else reading it, is that person. I would not take the risk to continue a joke like that on a public space. Its obvious, but its not obvious enough to someone who would keep a phone with an expanding battery.

It started with a Spinal Tap joke and then described his phone as "warm and soft". Yes there are people who don't know how dangerous battery pillowing can be. No, there are not people who use a cell phone as a hand warmer without thinking anything might be amiss, and they certainly aren't posting blithely about "gatekeeping".

I know plenty of people that use their phone as a hand warmer, it's just that the phone is actually doing something (extremely unoptimized game) and is inside of their mitten.

A battery can have a little bit of swelling as a treat :3

My dad basically gave me this scenario once.

Dad: My phone's been kind of puffy recently, the back's all blown out. Probably all the coolant at work corroding it. Still works alright though.

Me: Dad, that means the battery is super volatile and it could explode into flames at any moment. Get rid of it immediately.

Dad, rolling eyes: Well aren't you just a little ray of sunshine?

I got him to replace the phone.

Just send him a video of someone poking a cell phone battery with a knife so he can see what he avoided having happen to his leg.

Obvious KenM is obvious. Of course lots of users of that website fall for it.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

What's that supposed to mean lol

[–] [email protected] 3 points 6 days ago

Oh yeah I know KenM, I meant the second part. You could get the same kind of responses on Lemmy

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 week ago

Maybe trolls like this help spread the information to people who don't know that this happening with your battery is dangerous

Google Pixel 4a users looking at their phones now

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

My old phone did this, I replaced it straight away but forgot to dispose of it. It's been sitting on my kitchen bench for... wow, 15 months now.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 days ago

That's terrifying, but I also relate. My worst ones are the little projects that are just a teeny bit too much effort for the week so I do the whole 'eh, this weekend' thing. Then realize it's been over a year and the projects list keeps growing lol.

I remember when my phone "got puffy." I got a new phone.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I think he wants people to call him 'P. Diddy' or just 'Diddy' now, actually. Either way, your old phone should get in touch with those people bringing the sexual assault cases against him. I'm not sure what all 'getting puffy' entails, but I'd imagine it almost definitely involves the butt.

Amazing.

Five stars. No notes

My BlackBerry Passport turned itself into a nice spongy death pillow. It didn't seem to like being left on a warm day outside next to the speaker for an hour or so.

Phoned the insurance firm, who operated a policy where they'd try and repair it, or offer you a new or refurb'd model of the same phone.

Thing was, because the Passport was not produced in huge numbers and it couldn't be fixed, I got a nice cheque for six hundred quid which more than covered a new Unihertz Titan.

thank u battery bomb gods

We once sold a battery operated device, with the battery pack substantially bigger than that of a cell phone or even a laptop. When I cleaned out the last development samples, two of them were seriously blown up. They immediately went outside.

And just a few days ago I saw a video from China where an ebike battery blew up while charging in the families living room. Now that was serious fireworks...

Sometimes its OK to just let them face the consequences of their choices. Save who you can, but don't break stride for the fucking morons.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 week ago

That guy is pretty clearly full of shit anyways

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago

Okay, but imagine if, when the cellular phone explosion kills him, his ashes are scattered across the ocean. But then that water gets used to make lotion for babies, setting the wheels of promotion into motion. At least the sun would still shine in the summer time.
