I realized she was laughing derisively. She was like, “What kind of person would drive something like that?” Or, “That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen.”

Granted, she could have been having a weird reaction to a stroke or something, but I’m pretty sure I saw what I saw. Then today, I was at a four-way stop, and a guy in a Nissan Titan/Toyota Tundra or something smiled and then chuckled like: “What a tool.” Or, who would drive something like that?”

Mate, these thoughts are in your head. My partner has bouts of anxiety where she assumes people are always thinking the worst of her, so I'm hesitant to make fun of the dude because I've seen what it can do to someone, but he's clearly bought a dumbass car to get attention and now he's feeling insecure about it. It's sad.

I'm leaning towards the poster being a troll.

That is way too self aware to be a cybertruck owner.

[–] [email protected] 23 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It's both in this case though. People are pretty outspoken in how ridiculous that thing is, and he knows it too.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 week ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (3 children)

He knows it and he did it intentionally, but the people laughing at him are his imagination. He's projected these thoughts onto them because he feels self-conscious, nobody said a word to him. It's just as likely the woman was laughing because she's on the phone, or the man was smirking at something on a podcast he's got playing.

Edit: Will you people stop telling me you laugh at Cybertrucks. I don't care, that's not the point.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

I've pointed and laughed at every Cybertuck I've seen for the reasons the guy referenced in the post thinks. I'm full-on laughing at the people who plopped down $100k for those 4-year-old's-drawing-of-a-fucking-Halo-Warthog pieces of shit. Bullying serves a social function and these dumbasses are in need of it.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 week ago

As a counter-point, I've seen Cybertrucks out in the wild on at least 3 occasions now and each time I thought to myself, "Look at this fucking idiot."

One time someone else was in the car with me when we passed a Cybertruck and he did point and laugh at it.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

I have actively pointed and laughed at multiple cyber trucks driving around San Diego this week. I have witnessed other people are doing the same. There’s an absurd number of them here, 3 parked on my street alone. One is wrapped in fucking fake gold leaf for fucks sake. How do you not openly laugh at these idiots

“I want to draw attention to myself”
“Wait not like that”

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

Pretty sure I've seen the fake gold one in IB. I got a good look at one yesterday. They aren't even trucks. There's no bed. They are hatchbacks!

I'm calling them cyberbacks from now on

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 week ago

That's fair that it's mainly in the head of the person in the story.

That being said my partner and I actively point, laugh, and make fun of any cyberturds we see on the road very obviously. I'm sure we aren't the only ones.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

But this is really what people are thinking, not just in his head. I've chuckled to myself when I see these things, and they definitely are noticed by everyone so someone straight laughing upon seeing one is not out of the ordinary.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I will actively point and laugh.

I have more respect for someone walking around in an actual clown costume, than I do someone driving around that clown car.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Why would you not respect someone in a clown suit?

[–] prettybunnys 2 points 1 week ago

Yeah what’s this dude got against clowns ….

[–] [email protected] 57 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I thought this was satire.

Your truck is stupid looking and poorly built, and you paid way too much for it.

I can sympathize with the people who bought their trucks unaware that it was going to be a piece of shit, or unfamiliar with Musk in general. But I have to believe that's a small minority, and a lot of them should have returned their trucks for a refund by now.

If you're driving it to make eco-conscious decisions, there are better options out there.

If you like the features and design, there are better options out there.

If you're driving it as a status symbol, or because you're a Musk fanboy, you deserve ridicule.

But you should also know that the ultimate flex is not giving a fuck what other people think. Own your place in the world, and be the person you want to be. Ignore the haters, no matter how ridiculous you look.

cybertruck buyers:

also cybertruck buyers: "y r evyone laughing at meeeeeeeee"

[–] [email protected] 30 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

it’s because of elon’s very public desire to destroy democracy, his flouting of our laws, his ruining of twitter, his hatred for certain people and love of pushing lies and paranoia, and other such nonsense. blame elon. he’s made driving a tesla go from “wow, awesome” to “omg, you support that azzhole?” in a few short years. it’s a shame.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 week ago

That, and it's a stupid looking truck and gets laughed at because of how dumb it is. I know I'd be laughing if I ever saw one irl

[–] atzanteol 27 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The low polygonal design is definitely not for everyone. However, this still doesn't explain why the vehicle triggers people so much.

It's more than enough. You spent north of $100,000 on something that looks like a child's drawing of a car. This isn't a real thinker - you will be mocked.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago (2 children)

child's drawing of a car

Every time I see one of these, however, I have tons of respect for the people buying them

I do still avoid them though lol

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 days ago

At least it's ugly as hell because it's made to he as cheap as possible. I think it goes for around 5k€ which is pretty good (less than some apple's computerd)

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That's the genius bit. They're symmetrical so the front panels fit the back and vice versa

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 days ago

Also the doors. The drivers door is a "suicide door" while the passenger door is normal.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I saw my first one on the road a few days ago. Somehow it looked even more stupid in person than it did in the videos and photos. It's poorly built, ugly, and waaay over-priced.

I actually cringed out loud for the person who bought it because they thought it looked cool. Buying one of these things is the latest sign of a cavalcade of poor life choices.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 week ago

I've actually seen a couple of them on the highway and I laughed both times. It's just like "Haha! No way!" like if you ran into Carrot Top at Subway

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago

Lol yes in person the production cyber truck is hilarious, like a clown car almost. I think the production version is significantly smaller than the prototype they paraded around to get pre-orders.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 1 week ago

Not just women, homie. Not just women.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 week ago

I always talk shit about these vehicles when I see them. I’d like to point and laugh, but the sort of people who worship muskrat are already unhinged.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 week ago

The few comments on that "article" are either poorly written or stuff like "just blow the doors off them at the next light". Typical macho bullshit that they think impress people.

Lifestyles of the Rich and Stupid

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 week ago

I understand that Musk is on the wrong side of the line for many people, including myself. But the desire to cancel is so hard for me to understand.

That dude's face when he realizes that nobody is making fun of the Model 3 or S and correctly concludes that it is indeed the weirdest fucking thing off an assembly line in history

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 week ago

My 8 year old thinks they look cool. She also thinks that scrolling through youtube videos is peak comedy.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

I mean, the cybertruck could be interesting... if it wasn't hilariously expensive, and clouded my Elon Musk. Look at James May's amusing take, which sets that aside:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQzYhMDNLPA

I, uh, appreciate that they took a risk with the styling instead of making it so samey like every other car on the market, even iif it didn't work out super well. It has some neat features. But I don't feel a ton of sympathy for people being shamed for driving one, as it's always been rather hypocritical, even before Musk really jumped into the deep end.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Right? It's definitely something different and I can't fault people for liking the look. The problem is the rest of the thing is also a poorly designed death trap from the ground up.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 week ago
[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago

This is hilarious!

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

As someone who likes the aesthetic of the cybertruck; it annoys me that Elon has made such an ass of himself that it is effectively a non-option for serious people.

It is like the bastard child of a lamborghini countach and a delorean; but in a good way.

Preemptively; taste is subjective and personal. If you don't like the look of it, cool that is for you. I think it looks awesome; but Elon is a fuckup and it is way too expensive.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Even if you like the look and elon was a great guy, you still bought a super expensive way too big car that is absolute garbage.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

It is too big for NZ roads, I think it is to expensive, but people buy supercars.... So the value proposition is also subjective.

At for build quality.... Early reports are not that encouraging.

I'll never own one, so it doesn't really effect me.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

its because it looks ridiculous and can't even do truck stuff (ahem frame snapping in half when towing)

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

There's nothing concerted about it. I point and laugh at anybody wearing a four-wheeled prosthetic penis.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 week ago

Because you have a small dick
