Feeders are okay, but the real joy comes from watching hummingbirds feed at flowers. In my experience they're big fans of fuchsias, and I've also seen them at fireweed.

There's an h somewhere in fuhshchias, but don't ask me where. Autocorrect says fuchsia, but that could be a hallucination.
As someone who always spells it wrong, I must tell you how much I appreciate “fuhshchias”
Also hummingbirds love my fuchsias.
Fhqwhgads?
why did you comment gibberish on my post?
The pasta? I think it's spelled fusilli.
Fusilli, you crazy bastard! How are you?
I spent 120$ last year on fushias that were ignored
I caved and got a feeder when it got near freezing and one of them was making a fuss in the tree in my back yard, and it needs refilling every 2 days now, so I guess no accounting for taste...
We have one that comes to the window when the feeder is empty “Excuse me, your slacking….ill be back in an hour to check up on your work performance “
This is my goal in the coming years. We have dozens at feeders, but I'd love to get enough flowers going for them.
Hummingbirds ignored my feeder this year. Ants ended up finding a path to it, so I took it down. :-/
We found that ant moats like these are great for keeping the ants off our Hummingbird feeders. You can find how-to's online for DIY versions too.
Oh amazing! Thanks for sharing, I hope the hummingbirds come back.
I set one up with my feeder and I saw a hummingbird on it yesterday. Thanks for the advice!
Excellent! I'm glad I could help.
Those are perfect for mosquitoes to breed in, great job.
You could put in a few drops of oil or dish soap.
My feeder stole your birds cuz i had full on dogfights this year
I only have 2 because they live in the nearby tree and attack any other hummingbirds that try to come for a drink.
Keep the one the pair protects, add a second 10-15' away. When they start resource guarding that one, add a third in the middle. We're up to five feeders now using this methodology.
Good idea. I did put out a second one like 5 feet away and haven't seen any fights but a third would probably even everything out. Thanks!
Uh?
ELI5 please?
my guess is just that they know a lot about birds so they know why the hummingbirds aren't interested. Here's their website https://www.allaboutbirds.org/news/feeding-hummingbirds/
Another great way to feed these little gems...
I hope I find someone who talks to me the way this organization talks about hummingbirds 🥺
Only your mom, grandma or auntie will ever call you a little gem.
If they haven't, I'll just say now you're a lil' gem.
How could a trifling toad be anything else but a little gem? 💎 🐸
Okay okay I'm sorry, please show your dad the pictures I need to know.
I wonder how many people got bird feeders, hung them, and waited for the birds without ever having put any bird food in them to attract said birds.
They keep coming for my cucumber plants, so I thought I would get a feeder, would that be a bad idea?
Oh weird, do they damage the plants? I've never heard of this before.
Flowers They like flowers.
No apparent damage, I guess any flower will do?
Nope, I had lots this year. It's been lovely
I've never had a Hummingbird feeder not get attention. This is a weird concept for me. Maybe it's a regional thing?
