The FTC uncovered a series of texts between Pioneer Natural Resources CEO Scott Sheffield and OPEC officials agreeing to limit oil production to raise prices.

They raked in huge profits, while their scheme cost consumers $200 billion a year in higher prices.

That’s about $3000 a year per family.

Shocked! Shocked, I tell you. /s

Seriously... If this were actual "bombshell" news it wouldn't be on a youtube channel.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

It's also on plenty "mainstream" publications (listed in the sources of the vid and many others easily found online)

The vid is neat because it summarizes the whole case easily and, as you probably know, people are allergic to reading... unfortunately, it also seems they are allergic to even looking at a video now?

Naw, I'll take an article any day over a video. If you have any links for something I can read, I'll be happy to take a look.

Thanks for those! Read through all of them, it's definitely a big stink. Still not seeing how this is a "bombshell" report since it's been investigated since 2021, I guess the hyperbole in the YT title is part of what turned me off from believing them (kinda like all those "one trick your doctor doesn't want you to know", or the endless "free energy" BS), but it's nice to see this one was based on some factual information.

Well... OPEC is literally a cartel created to do exactly that.

Yes, but this is American Cartels. We can have them, too, and ours are better! 😡

Oligarchs come from the beet patches of Russia, otherwise it's sparkling billionaires

With blackjack and hookers!

[–] [email protected] 18 points 6 months ago

Soo when do they pay us back?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Of course they did, and they've been doing something similar for decades

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 months ago

And other companies are doing the same while paying their CEOs ridiculous amounts of money that they definitely do not earn.

Do you have a reliable citation for this claim besides someone’s YouTube video?

Maybe they should post a more credible source first the next time then.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

That’s because the onus lies on the claimant.

The FTC chairman is interviewed in the first 60 seconds of the video. It's bad faith to waste someone else's time when the source provided is well documented. No investigation, no right to speak

[–] _haha_oh_wow_ 3 points 6 months ago

Dude, it's OPEC. Are you serious? That's literally all they do.

[–] _haha_oh_wow_ 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Yup, what did you think OPEC is for?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 months ago

yes but... the USA is not part of OPEC (or it's not supposed to be I should say)
