USA: We are a proud Christian nation πŸ₯°βœοΈ

But jesus didn't die so you can slack around. Back to work 😀😑

Jesus was killed on Friday and resurrected on Sunday. If he can go back to work after being crucified you can after eating too much ham

I need this as a motivational poster

The US is not a proud christian nation, the constitution explicitly says it.

[–] [email protected] 25 points 7 months ago

Oh. The rhetoric of some of their politicians gave me a different impression.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 7 months ago (1 children)

It's actually the Treaty of Tripoli that lays that out explicitly

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I believe the Treaty of Tripoli reinforces the First Amendment and helps to clarity its intentions.

Fair enough. The fact that it was passed within 10 years of the constitution passing, unanimously by the US senate, helps that interpretation a lot too.

We no longer have kings, so Jesus is the CEO of CEOs now.

Yes well, I’m off to my Canadian workplace this morning.

Only federal employees get it off or some such nonsense.

Holidays vary by province and some businesses don't need to respect them.

Both are a holiday at the federal level (so for public servants and companies under federal jurisdiction like banks) and it's either good Friday or Easter Monday in Quebec (at the employer's discretion), otherwise I think it's good Friday for all other provinces and territories and Easter Monday isn't a default holiday anywhere that's under provincial jurisdiction.

Scotland: we have such a massive hangover on New Year's Day that we need the day after off too.

Rest of the UK: heh, OK, so you can work on Easter Monday instead

Me: wait, none of the Eastern European countries have Easter Monday off? Are they more secular than I thought?

Me, five minutes later: oh right, Eastern Orthodox calendar

[–] TheMightyCanuck 8 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Canada is weird. Easter is a stat holiday, but the employer can either give you the Friday OR the Monday off. Sadly... mine picked Friday

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Most places pick Friday, it’s just Federal employees that have both off.

[–] TheMightyCanuck 3 points 7 months ago

Those fucks get both days?! Need me a govt job

[–] [email protected] 7 points 7 months ago

Technically whole Serbia has the Easter Monday off but it's Julian calendar (Orthodox) Easter. Also every chatolic person has a day off today and one big part of the country has school holiday.

This map is misleading. I'm fairly certain my colleagues in latin america had easter mondays off, and they were all catholic. And speaking of, apparently orthodox easter doesn't count, which leads to even more grey countries.
