Open that document and write the title of that book/chapter/article you've wanted to write for months/years now. Put out the gym clothes for your walk/jog tomorrow morning. Open that language learning app and take the first lesson. Click on that dance tutorial you've been saving, stand up and just start.

I just realised I have so many things on my want-to-do list that I think are fantastic ideas but they never materialise, they just stay in my head. This is a message to myself as well as anyone in a similar situation - just start! You don't have to write the full article, even if it's just a working title and the first 2 sentences. If you wanna get fit, don't spend hours, or days making the plan or attempting to make the plan and get tired/demotivated along the way before you even start, just get up and do some fucking jumping jacks. Dont think about how you're gonna launch a whole deep clean operation for your home to leave it spotless with all these fancy detergents you're gonna get and whatnot, just start by clearing the dishes in the sink, or putting all your shoes in one place. Read the first paragraph of that book you've been carrying around. Try out one practice question for your final. Draw out the sketch for your painting. Call that friend or family member you've been meaning to talk to, even if it's small talk for 10 minutes or just text them 'hey'.

Just that the first step, any step, no matter how small, just do something, you'll plan the rest along the way but you must start. You can't afford to wait any longer, you must start and you must start now!

Everyday my eyes open and my lungs fill with air I’m motivated to get up out of bed. I use to be motivated by earning money, or building a business, spend time with family, etc. but honestly, just waking up is all I need to know that I still have purpose in this world.

We aren’t designed for this world of pleasure

The world we live in allows us to feel some kind of pleasure all day long if we want that. It can almost be considered a revolution in what we are going through. Yes it’s the technological revolution but now we are starting to see the effect it has on our dopamine levels. Before technology we would seek pleasure in real things such as finding a partner, pursuing a career, being social, playing sports, taking in nature but most of us today would rather stay inside and play video games then actually pursue something real. This isn’t how we are meant to live.

Anyone else agree?

Life after graduating school or university can be truly challenging. There are plenty of curveballs that life throws at us and expectations that we feel we have to meet.

I certainly wasn’t the only one who experienced this, and you aren’t either. Perspective helps, so I’ve shared the main factors that cause the “Post-grad blues” and how you might be able to navigate this -

Remember that it could be a variety of factors like social circles, finances or choices that might stress us out after graduating school. Hopefully this helps. Share it with someone who might need this.

Long-term goals and ambitions are great sources of motivation, but imo you also need to balance them with short-term ones. Sometimes, you just need a quick boost of motivation to finish that assignment on time or power through reading another chapter of your textbook. I was curious what everyone’s study motivations are for such immediate tasks.

I’ll share some of mine:

  • Certain songs from the soundtrack for Steins;Gate, an anime with some brilliant college students/“scientists” (makes me feel like a scientists 🧑‍🔬)
  • ‘Temporal Tower’, a track from the game Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Time/Darkness (has this element of being larger-than-life and a sense of urgency concerning the nature of the universe)
  • Certain songs by Heize, a k-pop artist, such as Underwater, Don’t Know You, and You, Clouds, Rain (I have no idea why lol)
  • Alex from Modern Family used to be a motivator (something about her always drowning in work romanticized the idea of over-working for me; or just the studying aesthetic in general
  • Lifestyle reality tv, such as Bling Empire, Kardashians, Selling Sunset, etc (my guess is this stems from “work hard, play hard” mentality. Basically thinking “damn, I wanna work hard and be successful so I can be dumb and spoil myself” lol)

Watching people do hard things and overcoming themselves gives me a huge motivation boost. Shows like SAS Who Dares Wins, YT videos of people challenging themselves, etc.

Do you have any recommendations for content like this?

I know, I know, I am aware it is silly, older folks would find it funny in a friendly way. That's just how I feel. Most people my age have two kids (I am a guy), get divorced, have lost a parent, and here I am procrastinating at work, trying to become slim again as I was before Covid, fighting with the temptation to drink beer (was in a dark place last winter, drank quite a lot which made things worse, if not - was the root cause of my depression) as the last month I really broke my zero alcohol period that I maintained for a few months....

So a lot of petty Peter Pan-ish things I have to deal with, which makes me sad and angry at myself for being so weak and not worthwhile. I low key wanna escape and ditch it all, cause it is hard to try something for the hundreth time, and, well it sucks to do hard things...

But I know one thing. If I quit on myself now and stop fighting and make things worse, I will hate myself MORE an year from now. We only lose when we quit. It sucks, I hardly believe in myself anymore and lost a lot of sense of self-respect, BUT I WILL NOT QUIT, I WILL WIN AND OVERCOME MYSELF. The hard men and women that once lived, my ancestors, so I can breathe at this moment have not lived pointlessly. I will not let them down, I will not let myself down.

I'm interested in a specific art hobby as a beginner. How long do i sit on this idea researching it before I jump in? The cost is a small to medium concern; I am employed but would like to save. I'm also feeling loneliness, depression and anxiety and a hobby could help right? From my track record I am an impulse buyer. I also fall into deep depression where I don't do anything but sleep (which the hobby is to change).

Pros: Starting a new, fun hobby. Creating art. Possibly making merchandise that is of value.

Cons: Spending money while trying to save. Challenges that come from starting something that is not mandatory.

Worries: I won't act on it at all or I will act on it too soon and waste time and money.

I would really appreciate your kind input and questions to work this out. tysm

"Alas, I turn my back. There is a world, elsewhere."

That is a quote from Shakespeare's Coriolanus, in which the main character is not at all being heard out, feels betrayed, and just turns his back on the situation entirely. Vengeance and allying himself with the enemy follows, but that isn't important. I often come back to that one quote.

An entire year for me was hell after a break up. At some point I remembered this quote, and it gave me reason to pursue hobbies, interests in writing, and just the multitude of other things that are available for us that we can't see when we are heartbroken.

An entire world exists other than the depression, sadness, frustration, and all the other negative feelings that are present when someone leaves us or vice versa. Just turn your back on the break up entirely because often there is nothing else that can be done or should be done.

I started writing(Selfish Mind, about how to improve oneself physically, emotionally, and psychologically) now it's been one month and 12 days, Started a hobby of learning Guitar, Working on my coding skills, etc...

Ever feel like you're running in place with your dreams? I see this a lot with the dreamers I work with. Just the other day, a dreamer came to me feeling totally stuck. Dreams in sight, but just couldn't get there.

It's not rare, you know? Super talented folks getting slowed down by not knowing the next step. But here's the thing – finding your way isn't some impossible puzzle.

From what I've seen, it's about tapping into what you really want. I've helped loads of dreamers do just this. We get down to the nitty-gritty, setting clear goals and mapping out how to hit them.

So, what's tripping you up? Fear? Not sure which way to go? Something else? Let’s talk and find out.

And hey, if this hits home, swing by my bio. There's a community of us dreamers there, all about reaching those big goals.

College student that has lost all motivation needs help and advice [Text]

Hi everyone, I’m a college student that was doing very very well. I’m at a really good school and have a part time internship. For the first couple months I was so on track to get As in all my classes and they were all hard classes and I was going to the gym and I really loved my busy lifestyle. Then things started to take a turn. I started to watch more YouTube, eat unhealthy foods, and not go to the gym as much. Later I started skipping homework’s and just not trying as hard. Then I stopped showing up to my internship, stopped going to class, and stopped going to office hours as I was getting overwhelmed a bit, but at this point I was still doing the bare minimum. Right before break I started hooking up with my ex again because I live alone and just wanted to be with someone. Now we are back together but I’m just not into her and it’s really stressful because I don’t want to hurt her again. After the break for Thanksgiving I’ve completely lost all motivation. During break all I did was watch reels and YouTube all day and eat junk. Now that’s all I’m still doing, I’m not getting out of bed all day, I’m not even showering. I’m just in my pajamas going from YouTube to eating cookies to watching reels to playing video games to sleeping. I’ve missed projects, homework’s, meetings, I’m screwed. I initially could’ve gotten all A’s now I’m at risk of failing my classes. I’m gonna lose my internship. I’m not in good shape anymore. I feel disgusting and worthless and for some reason I just can’t get started taking steps to get it together even though I want to sooooo bad. It’s currently 1130 and I just got up. I’m gonna miss class again. I’m gonna lose my housing, I want my life again. Any help or advice is very appreciated. I feel like I’m so lucky to have all this opportunity for once and don’t want to throw it all away. I’m the kind of person that when I stop doin something in my routine, everything goes to shit. Please help.

I am currently reading this book and am astonished by the facts mentioned, such as the cures for diseases and the impact of the subconscious mind. Is it genuinely true, and to what extent is its validity supported? What are your views on this? If you have already studied the book, have you applied its principles in your real life, and what changes have you experienced? Please explain.

I'm 16F, and trying to get into the Air Force Academy. Please help me get motivated to go to the gym and do better in school. Please help me believe in myself and just do it, and not be afraid of failure. Please help me be mentally strong. I'm a huge procrastinator and I just want to be able to get things done. I'm hoping someone can say something that can help me. Thanks.

So hello everyone, just wanted to share my experience and ask for advice on it - I always get into this weird stagnation when winter starts ( end of October / start of November). I always find it so hard to keep up and I do my tasks with more difficulty than when spring starts and in any other period of the year. But, this year I need to work and can't buy myself 2 or 3 months of doing nothing. And I must say - I'm not depressed, I don't have mental health issues - I checked all of that, I just become weirdly slow in the winter time and need advice how to overcome it. I also sleep more the minute it becomes colder outside.
