Hi everyone. I am looking for old episodes of the Dutch crime reporter show Peter R. de Vries: Misdaadverslaggever.

I have searched far and wide (TheTVDB, IMDB, just Googling, torrent websites), even emailed networks an production companies as well as his foundation, but no-one seems to have the episodes. The Dutch archive (Beeld & Geluid) also doesn't have them all, only about 20 of the 200+ that exist.

While I have been able to piece some info together which I have put on TheTVDB (but I'm still working on it), there are many gaps. At this point, I am most interested in "metadata", i.e. season numbers, their episodes with their titles, air dates etc. It seems most episodes are available on YouTube (which is, weirdly enough, also the tip I got from the companies I emailed), but these are, nearly always, without this information. I can view many episodes, but I don't know what I'm missing.

I'd be very happy if someone could provide me with some of this info!

I'm bumping my network storage from 32TB total to 64GB as I keep running out space but my old NAS doesn't work well with 16TB drives (I just bought 6 of them for a good price).

I've narrowed it down to either the Terramaster t9-423 9-bay or the qnap ts-664 6-bay. Does anyone have any experience with either unit and 16TB+ drives? I would be going for a TRAID or the QNAP equivalent as I want to be able to increase the RAID in the future with a larger drive (or more in the case of the Terramaster)

  1. How does StableBit DrivePool affect drive speeds? For example, if you make a pool with a fast drive and a slow drive?
  2. What are the dangers of using StableBit DrivePool. What scenarios are likely to produce errors, loss of data, accidental deletions etc.
  3. What are your experiences with using DrivePool with Backblaze?
  4. Any other beginner tips? Feel free to share.

Pre-Notice: Yes, with 2 disks in RAID 1, I had this coming. I have selective data backups both in the cloud as at an offsite location with a friend of my most important data. But I want to see what options are there for recovering my other data before I call it KIA.

I have a QNAP NAS with 2 slots, where 1 disk gave SMART errors. I replaced it, let it rebuild the RAID 1 and now I see in the dashboard that there are no volumes found:

So my questions I have are:

  • Which data recovery software can I try to use? Which hardware do I need to buy to connect the 3.5 SATA disk? It is powered from the PSU, so a regular SATA to USB plug will not work I assume.

  • Which recovery services are there in Europe who you can recommend? Do you think it will cost less than 800 euro? (The "bounty" I put on that data in my head)

Over the weekend I built a server myself with 5 disks in raidz3, which allows up to 3 disks to fail. Still going to use the offsite and online backup, because it's the only certainty I have at this point.

Thank you for your input and have a nice day!

I am looking for a good way to manage files web-based between different servers like on synology (filestation).

FileBrowser for me feels not ideal, I would like something more like ForkLift or NC, ideally with a transfer queue but web-based so I can manage all the different servers.

Currently I am using FileStation, and it works, but I would like something that is

  • vendor-independent
  • can run kind of standalone (VM/proxmox or docker).
  • Also different file-systems (SFTP, SMB, NFS,...) would be great
  • Automation with a GUI such as HyperBackup and CloudSync would be a nice bonus.

Is there something like that?

How do you guys do this?

Any other suggestions?

I transfer files with Anydesk frequently and Any frequently cuts off partway. I use md5 checksums to verify the transfers. If the checksums are matching, need i worry?

Also anyone have any tips for better ways to transfer data through these remote desktops?

Original Title: CrystalDiskInfo shows CAUTION status, what could this mean? After a series of BSODs, my computer has been stuck at 100% disk from system and related software. It has gotten much slower and stutters at times. I have decent specs, so if possible can anyone recommend a good SSD I can upgrade to? please

Can anyone explain why an mp3 file is 380 MB while m4b is 1.29 GB? I have done this in the past and there seems to be a pretty big variance in size from mp3 to m4b sometimes by just a few MB or like in this situation almost a full GB, I want to make sure I'm not doing something wrong and wasting space on my SSD. I'm using ffmpeg to convert mp3 to m4b to listen to audiobooks on my iPod.

this is what I'm writing into my terminal if anyone has any advice:

Run: ffmpeg -i output.mp3 -c:a aac -b:a 128k -vn -ac 2 -y final.m4b

just for context I first converted multiple mp3s into one using:

sox *.mp3 output.mp3

Hello /r/DataHoarder, I have been searching for a specific episode of HGTV's "Designed to Sell" from 2008 for a while and I have failed to find even a frame from the episode. Evidently I need some help looking for this, so I wanted to ask either if anyone here had something like this archived or knew where to look.

It's Season 22, Episode 11 Disorderly Dining Room.

Hi everyone

I have a few existing drives with data, a mix of internal and external HDDs, mostly external. Most with ntfs filesystem and one 8tb internal with ext4 filesystem (Linux mint) because I dual boot. Some are external ntfs HDDs of smaller size that I'm going to amalgamate into an extra 8tb internal HDD because those small externals are ancient and getting unreliable.

I'm looking for recommendations for an enclosure-like product that sits external to the PC case (I don't want to get rid of my PC case and buy a massive tower instead).

I have these requirements:

  • Fits min of 3, max of 4 drives. 4 preferred.
  • No RAID, or at least have the ability to opt out of using it
  • Under $350 AUD ideally, and stocked in Aus.
  • Not a NAS, just a USB 3.x/C connection to the PC
  • Either...
  1. Each drive can be seen individually "as-is" without any raid or spanning that treats several drives as one. No formatting required. One of my existing external HDDs kind of does this in another way by providing USB sockets on the HDD casing itself that other external HDDs can plug into. Only one cable goes to the PC and all drives can be seen individually.
  2. The drives are treated as a single entity, but the partitioning process can be done safely so my existing data can all be preserved in the filesystem format it's currently in. This seems like a dicey thing to manage logistics-wise. I'm not going to have enough spare empty drive space to relay data across, the larger existing drives are going to have to go straight in to the new enclosure and "work" somehow.

I've done some of my own research and have looked at some of the Orico and Icybox brand but I don't really understand well enough how these products are going to handle my special requirements. I don't want to spend the money till I know I can actually do this transition in the way I expect.

Some examples that seem relevant:

Does anyone have any tips?

Thanks

I'm looking to replace a 8tb wd blue and double it. Can I just use a red in a regular desktop? Can/should I use any of the other ones in a desktop? Is shucking still a thing and can those be used in a desktop? Sorry for rookie questions, it's been a bit since I had to buy one.

I have a really old internal HDD from a 15ish year-old laptop that can still be powered on, so the drive itself is most likely okay. However, due to it having no backups, I want to proceed with extreme caution (since there was a recent heartbreaking drive tragedy).

So I do not want to take any chances and would like to send it to a data recovery company to get its data out in a safe environment (most likely 300dollardatarecovery). But since the drive is not actively failing (besides being ancient), how do these companies determine if its old read/write head is going to last through the entire initial imaging process? The worst possible case is the head looks good upon inspection and fails in the middle of being imaged.

I looked up DeepSpar and it says that it can "process every head differently, depending on the level of degradation." but how does DeepSpar know that?

If there are other ways to make sure the head lasts besides what DeepSpar uses, please let me know. I'm very curious how this process works.

Thanks so much!

Hello. I’m very new to this and if I’m at the wrong place, I’m sorry and would appreciate where I should ask.

I’m trying to help my family (3 computers) to have a backup solution that is pretty easy, I think. We have 3 computers (maybe 2-4 tb of space - including external drives) and I would like to be able to completely back them up and if the computer somehow dies, I can use the backup to restore everything (hopefully even the programs and Windows). We are not doing any business so just family stuff (files, pdfs, photos and videos of trips) and I would like to completely backup the computers every week to a NAS and then mid week back up again to an external drive for redundancy. And also get Backblaze on the computers for backup online.

My questions are:

  1. Should I buy a simple 2 bay or 4 bay Synology and use their Active Backup for the computers to it? Or should I build something with an old computer (I have an old i3 2nd gen laptop or an i3 4th gen old Acer desktop.).
  2. If I go with Synology, how many bays should I get? 2 min since I want to mirror the drives for safe keeping. Or should I go with 4 bays?
  3. I am not familiar with software. If I go with Synology, does it have software to make a backup to an external drive? Or if I build my own, what should I use software wise? Open Media Vault? TrueNAS?

Thanks for any suggestion you have.

Looking to set up a system, mostly for streaming and normal data backup, but also planning on using it for data for a home business eventually. I was looking at stuff on FB marketplace and I found a used Drobo 5D with 16TB of HHD storage for $200 and a brand new Synology DS1019+ with 20TB ($600).

I don't know the market well enough to tell which is a better deal or whether I actually need all the features of the DS1019+. I was leaning toward the Drobo as I'd prefer to start small, but the DS1019+ seems like a killer deal so I thought I'd see if anyone had any input.

Thanks in advance!

CONTEXT (tldr I like that OneDrive auto backs up my camera roll and integrates with windows)

I currently use OneDrive to backup my files, and I love it. I love the fact that it auto-uploads my iPhone camera roll into monthly folders, and I love the seamless syncing between devices. I can make and start editing a file on my phone and immediately continue editing the same document on my laptop, or upload a photo on my laptop and download it to my phone. I’ve also set it up to reflect my documents, pictures, videos etc folders in OneDrive, so I can access them from anywhere and if my laptop dies my files are safe.

Buuut I get that OneDrive isn’t really a backup. And because it syncs changes if I fuck up something on my laptop it’s gone from everywhere. I also only get 1TB of storage.

My actual question: What I want is a NAS device that integrates OneDrive, so it can backup the contents of my OneDrive. Ideally I’d like to just use the NAS effectively as the OneDrive cloud, so I don’t have a 1 TB limit, but I’m not sure if that’s possible? Otherwise I could just use OneDrive for files, and have my camera roll backup directly to the NAS, but is there a way to do this automatically?

I've been looking for a video that went down a long while ago that I originally discovered on Facebook and later found on liveleak (not anything crazy, just a dude saying some random junk and hitting a bong). The video has become a bit of a meme between a few of my friends and I and I've been looking for a way to recover it for a good while now. I managed to find the page on the Wayback Machine but the video does not play and pops up an error. The link to the page in the wayback machine is:

Is there any way to recover this video, either through this page or another means? Any help or guidance is greatly appreciated, I'd love to be able to recover this video and have it forever so I don't have to keep going on a hunt for it as I have in the past.

Howdy all.

I have a nice 32 TB server that's got shut 8TB left. If like to expand, but not sure how to best do it. Asking for advice on how to increase my storage space.

My setup: Dual E5-2650v2 CPUs 128 GB RAM VMWare ESXi 6.7 (passing the sas controllers to the TrueNAS VM) One sas controller runs the drive array, the other runs the mirrored OS drive (where all the vm OSs live).

The controller with the drives is maxed out.

Is my best option to buy another case +power supply and and external sas card to add more drives? Would I have to buy thr same size drives as what i have now (8tb WD)?

Thank you!

Original Title: Video platform Vbox7 is about to restrict access to nearly all its' videos - after public outcry, they delayed this decision for a period of 1 month. Tons of memories and integral parts of early Bulgarian internet culture are about to be lost, unless they're saved during this 1 month window.

What is vbox7.com?

  • A Bulgarian video-sharing site founded in 2006. It has hosted countless beloved and obscure videos, many of them unique to the site (and to Bulgaria) itself - over 14M videos overall.
  • It also contains a lot of otherwise "lost" media (foreign movies, TV series) that survives only there, either with a dub or not.
  • In 2014, the site owners decided this user-generated content wasn't profitable enough.
  • So they heavily redesigned everything, and decided to only promote partnered "content" instead (which sucks so bad that the small number of remaining users completely left).

What is happening to the videos?

  • The owners recently declared all "unofficial" videos to be a copyright liability, so they will all be privated.
  • Meaning that all unofficial videos (meaning ones uploaded by unofficial channels - channels not tagged with "AVT", "THE", or "PART") will only be accessible to their respective original uploaders.
  • People protested, and the owners relented to keep unofficial videos available for a window of one month (starting from Jan 22).

What is to be done?

  • Youtube-dl/yt-dlp used to support downloading individual Vbox7 videos before, but no longer seem to work - discussion regarding this on IRC. Downloading whole channels doesn't work either.
  • There's also currently no way for youtube-dl (or some other crawler) to automatically distinguish between videos uploaded by unofficial channels (which are about to be lost in 1 month) and official channels (which are channels tagged with "AVT"/"THE"/"PART", and will remain available).
  • In case distinguishing between official/unofficial channels is too complicated for a crawler (though I think it shouldn't be), perhaps the official videos might be proportionally small enough overall, so that it would be easier to just download them alongside everything else?
  • And in case there's not enough time and/or space to download absolutely everything, I'm also not sure how to best prioritize videos - by likes/views + older videos first?
  • Currently, unofficial videos can only be accessed with Bulgarian IP. Only official/partnered videos (which will remain on the site) can be watched from abroad. This further complicates things.
  • Example of an official channel (the tags are visible after clicking the little dropdown menu on the left side):
  • Example of an unofficial channel:

Lets say we have something like 2 x 2tb drives and 1 x 1tb, 3 x 500gb drives.

We can't use RAID 5 on the larger disks as we need 1 more.

But can we somehow set it up to treat the 2.5 tb of storage on the 4 smaller drives as if it were one 2tb drive, then set the 3 (2 real, 1 virtual) 2 tb drives in a raid 5?

How would you do so?

I have an iphone and I had google photos years ago when it was free for more data. Now I think my photos are all over the place, split between the two with lots of duplicates I'm sure. I have about 20,000+ photos and I'm looking to put them all into once place and absolutely struggling.

I was going to go to icloud for the following reasons

  • Google photos doesn't delete duplicates and it's killing me
  • I have a mac, iPhone etc and don't see myself changing
  • I can sync all my things, notes, calendar etc

I've tried to do the Takeout export to download all my photos and reupload them as tedious and painful as it is, but all files are .JPG.Json.... what is the point of that? How do I just get my actual photos in jpg and have the ability to upload them?

Literally so desperate for help!!!!

Used to be the largest video.sharing platform in Bulgaria since 2006. It was a youtube knockoff obviously, but so much was shared throughout the years. Last week they made all public videos hidden out of nowhere. Obviously it made some news here amd there since many people got shocked. Today they came out with a statement saying they will give us 1 month with everything visible again until it gets deleted from their servers forever.

The thing is many downloader websites for that site haven't worked in years, not everyone including me can find an easy way to download videos from there. And even then,I was wondering if there was some way to download videos in bulk, or make a dump of the website and whatnot. I know a lot of people here know their shit and I would be extremely grateful for some advice, I will probably be downloading and spending every possible free minute next month trying to preserve videos from there.

I will appreciate the advice and help, thank you in advance!
