Hello everybody.

I am trying to build my first PC. I need the pc for two things one is for gaming. The games I play are mostly single player games (currently I play them on PS4) like Elden Ring, God of War, Souls like games and so on...

For the business I build some easy websites, edit reels and tiktok videos.

The budget that I have is around $900 - $1200

So I need a pc that could do some more CPU powerful tasks and a GPU that would run the games on good FPS (I don't need crazy good FPS for story games like 150-200 FPS) but around 100 would be good.

Would you be able to help me with the GPU and CPU choices which would best suit my needs.

Also I am debating if I should play the games on 1080p or 1440p and how would that affect my set up if I buy one 1440p monitor and I have one monitor that is 1080p.

Thanks every one in advance.

Current PC is attached here. I've hit a few games that my old 6600K is now not playing and so its time to move to something new. Thinking to spend around £500 but more focused around price efficiency/future comparability than a hard number. I've got 6 sata drives that I want to keep using limiting motherboard options a bit. Happy to get a used CPU if there are some good options there or go for a cheap one for now with everything else solid and swap it in two/3 years.

Currently leaning towards an AM5 based options as the socket should be good till 2027; and same with future graphics cards if I get one with PCI 5. Bit out of the loop so happy to be told there are better options.

Just scooped a used 3080 Suprim X for $350 off eBay.

Was that a bad price assuming good working order?

Hi! So I might be getting an extra monitor that my dad has. I'm not sure what the brand is, I won't be able to check until next week. If I get it, I'll need to get a keyboard, storage, etc.

Apparently a hard drive doesn't work? I have a keyboard and mouse picked out but l'm so confused on what to do for storage. I'm making a Christmas list so l'm planning on asking for this stuff then

I've been looking for a few hours and I'm so lost and confused. Anything under $50 is ideal. I need something with atleast 16 GB.

Any help is appreciated!

I want to upgrade from an rx 6600 but I can't decide if I should go for an Rtx 4070 or Rx 7800 xt. Used they are pretty much the same price used (£330). Rx 7800 xt has better straight forward performance but the rtx 4070 has much better power use and has the Nvidia features (I don't care about raytracing) what do you think I should go for and are Nvidia features something that actually is worth it over better hardware performance?

RX 6600 8GB

1TB SSD

I don't know about computers so please help me.

Hi to all i have buyed the 7900xtx and now i dont know what cpu to buy i have this options from amd

9600x : 200€

9700x: 300€

7800x3d 400€

9800x3d 520€

Witch one should i buy my fear is that the 9600x will bottleneck my new gpu before i had an 6750xt and my 3600x only was capable of moving it in bf 5 at 80% and my 5800x3d at 100% every game and now i changed all pc and i dont know what cpu

i want to know your opinion i need help should i buy for 1440p 165hz monitor the cheaper 9600x (i will have bottleneck with this cpu?) or go to an 9700x or 7800x3d or what , my budget its around 300 but if i can save 100€ its fine and if i have to pay the 100 more for 7800x3d it also will be fine just tell me if the 9600x will bottleneck and how much aprox and if its really worth for the price rise the performance uplift

Hey Everyone, I want to build this PC and wanted some second opinions if it looks good so far. I’m thinking of buying everything very soon. If there’s anything I should change let me know. Trying to keep the budget under $2,000.

Hi, don´t know if this is the right place to post this but anyway.

I used to transfer files from SDD to external SDD, HDD to External HDD and vice versa around 80mb/s, for the past few weeks is doing less that half of that. Any idea why this might be happening?

I was about to buy all the components for a PC when i saw on AMD website that the selected CPU (Ryzen 7 5700G) works with PCIe 3.0.

I have selected as components a Gigabyte B550M DS3H motherboard that has gen 4.0 PCIe, 2x8GB DDR4 3200MHz and a 1TB Crucial P3 Plus M2 NVMe Internal SSD .

I read some info about this on this subreddit, here is what i understood, correct me if i am wrong please:

  • CPU and motherboard will comunicate just fine but using the older 3.0 PCIe
  • RAM dont use the PCIe interface to communicate with CPU so as long as they are the correct DDR and speed range everything is fine
  • The m2 PCIe 4.0 will work in any of the 2 slots, but again using PCIe 3.0 interface making it more wise to just buy a P3 normal not plus

Another important thing I saw on AMD website https://www.amd.com/en/products/specifications/processors.html is that windows 11 is not supported, is this actually true? thanks for the help

Hey all!

I settled on my 4070ti SUPER now and want to continually upgrade the remaining parts in my system, including moving from Intel 8600K to AMD AM5 platform.

Looking at the prices, I decided against the x3d series, as I am a 1440p@60 gamer and the cost over in germany is just not reasonable for the gains I would have. So 9700x, small upgrade over 7700x, but the latest and greatest - decided to go 8 cores, as I do calculations for work related stuff on my PC too.

Now I'm looking at air coolers for my new system, coming from a BeQuiet Dark Rock 4, I've learned Be Quiet is pretty bad for AM5? Otherwise Dark Rock 5 would be my first pick, just overall good looking and performing cooler in my current build.

My options I have in mind right now are: Arctic Freezer 36 ARGB black Deepcool Ak400/500 Digital Thermalright - meh, don't really like the look, I like stealth

In general I'd like to keep the RAM slots free (RGB) and have an overall black cooler to hide it. Some RGB or a screen allowed, but preferred only black.

Hope you can give me some suggestions, as it's really hard to find a solution with all the available options. Cheers!

Finally upgrading my 10+ year old build and wanted some suggestions and thought on an upcoming build.

It will be used for gaming in 1440p. I mainly play dota but looking forward to picking up new games now as well that I haven’t been able to play (anything from D4 to fps games etc.).

As for the productivity part it’s a lot of photo editing but possibly some CAD and Sketchup (more for fun from time to time).

I’ve already picked up a 4070s which I got for a good deal and a 850w PSU. As for the rest I’m now looking at the new 9800x3D which may be a bit overkill but the 7800x3D is almost the same price here.

Along with that 64gb ram 6000mhz, AIO cooler for the cpu and I’ll build in my current chassi (fractal define R4).

Is it better to go for another cpu? Any and all feedback and thoughts are highly appreciated.

So this was a stupid accident, I'll try keep it brief. I had a bottle of soda on my desk left open slightly. Cat jumped on desk and knocked it over, I grabbed it before it fell over but when I grabbed it since it was loose it shot everywhere like a geyser. All over the top of the monitor, which has vents on it, or it wouldn't have gone inside. I immediately unplugged it and have it drying upside down. Normally my cat isnt in my room and I dont usually drink soda or have anything on my desk. This was temporary while building something in my room then this happened. Luckily not my PC and all the new parts I have... Stupid though the monitor was expensive.

It's one of the Alienware monitors, AW27____ something, one of the 27 inch 240hz ones. My first thought was to open the back panel and clean inside but holy shit getting that off is harder than infiltrating Fort Knox. I need to get inside somehow though, any advice? I spent an hour trying and now have messed up fingers.

My pc 5900x, 64Gb DDR4 3600, 3080, 2x 1T Pcie 4.0 drives, 1000W PSU.

Pc I built a couple years ago had a RAM failure. Currently using 2x32Gb DIMM's in dual channel. I would like a good replacement kit, preferably 64Gb with x4 DIMM's, but not able to find any of these kits listed on the QVL, and the ones I can find they want almost $300 for the kit, I bought the 64Gb a couple years ago like $110 lol. Just looking for suggestions, or maybe recommendations not on the QVL but works great with Ryzen. CL18 is fine, lower would be better but in my experience CAS Latency makes 0 difference in real world applications. Thank you!

Every thread I see in favor of the 4070 Super over the 7900 GRE includes the phrase "For just $50 more you get better efficiency, better Ray Tracing" etc etc etc but then for just $20 more than the 4070 Super is the 7900 XT which is significantly more powerful than the super and is about 15% faster, getting better results across the board on games that aren't Alan Wake or Cyberpunk

Guess I'm probably asking for an AMD vs Nvidia fan boy war but how important do y'all think the difference in VRAM is vs how much further ahead Nvidia is in latency, frame gen, lighting and Ray Tracing tech? Surely the 12 GB of VRAM will make the 4070 Super obsolete much sooner than the 7900 GRE or XT.. I'm not really trying to replace my GPU in 3 years

Why I'm building: I'll be having an extended stay at my dad's house. I don't want to bring my primary rig up there. I'd prefer not to take any risks in damaging it. I've decided to throw together a secondary rig that I can use for my stay. It just so happens that my dad is going to put together a new at home office at his house. He doesn't have a desktop PC. So I plan on building this rig for school/gaming use while I'm there and then gifting it to my dad for his new office once I leave.

The 5700x3D offers tremendous value right now. You can get it for like $135 on Ali Express. It's a solid gaming CPU, but the 3D vCache CPUs take a hit in "workstation" tasks. That being said, I feel like the work he does doesn't require a whole lot of processing power overall. It'll be mostly web browsing, email, video calls, and Microsoft's Office suite.

So, to anyone that uses a 5700x3D...how does it perform in day to day tasks? Does it feel "snappy" when doing basic tasks like web browsing and excel spreadsheets? It'll be paired with a good NVME ssd, so that won't that shouldn't be a limiting factor here.

Worst case, I can sell the MOBO, RAM, CPU, and GPU before gifting and replace it with something like a 9700x. Just hoping I don't have to deal with any of that.

Hello all, I am looking into CPU's at the mment and consistently see the Ryzen 7 7800X3D recommended as the end-all be-all best CPU for gaming, bar none. What I fail to understand and seem to be having finding an ACTUAL answer for... is why? Part of why I am trying to figure this out is I currently have a Ryzen 9 7950X and have been told numerous times that this CPU, while good, isn't a *great* CPU for gaming by any means.

Admittedly this frustrates me a bit since this PC is less than a year old and was, I had thought, the best I could ever possibly make it, and if I made a mistake on my CPU choice I would love to figure that out and better understand what makes a CPU especially great for gaming so that I don't make the same mistake in the future. Any advice is appreciated!

I was planning to use Windows 10 at first just because of the sheer amount of others also using it, but after hearing a plethora of complaints about windows and the fact that they are forcing users to upgrade, I'm a bit doubtful.

I have heard many positive things about Linux though, but I'm wondering if the setup will be more difficult and if it'll block me from doing things since everything is catered towards Windows.

I'm planning to get a build like this but I'm worried about bottleneck, I have seen a video on Youtube of testing this build in gaming and there was a trouble during playing Fortnite at 1080p EPIC, it was like freezing. So I need to make sure that is good thats why I'm asking you guys. Here is the videos if you want to see https://youtu.be/nEUDSzYClso?si=7lRC6x8lwTNwQ05W

Assuming you have decent/not old hardware — what downsides (current / known as well as possible & expected) are there for a win 11 install that has bypassed the TPM & SB checks? Major updates will need to be done manually yes? Anything else? Might they apply some patch and make things 'worse' in some unexpected way? What are the known unknowns?

My own rig has been getting wonky so teetering on a win 10 wipe vs Win 11 (using Rufus?). Asus Prime TRX40-Pro + Threadripper 3960X.
