I think moderation can work just like cold turkey can work, depends on the level of addiction, addiction, and user.

I hear this all the time but how are they currently doing this? What are some examples?

Soccer coach told us it would hurt to push a baby from his vagina then some boy behind me asked “you have a vagina?” Bad teacher and no one cared in middle school

Password is right in compose and config. Idk what else to do.

I previously didn’t really care but selfhosting has slowly pushed me to really care about my media and data. Moved to Linux, try to prefer FOSS even if some minor function is lost. But considering when it’s not worth it.

For me, it’s that I have 100% control and the devs respect the consumers enough to show they have nothing to hide.

I set up an instance of the ArchiveTeam Warrior on my home server with Docker in under 10 minutes. Feels like I'm doing my part to combat removal of information from the internet.

I used to just post on .world but disagree with some of their admin and mod policies so I try to post on .ml then cross post. Is it worth cross posting to even small instances or should I expect their users are on the bigger communities too? I don’t want to spam but only posting in .world misses the point of decentralization

  • my methods have been:

  • use trilium for any detailed notes and documentation

  • memos for random thoughts especially if shorter

  • pen and paper when offline or on mobile because mobile trilium and moememos both suck

  • zotero for citation and bibliography manager

  • backed up to nextcloud

  • i have paperless-ngx but found it randomly errors a ton of things and zotero is fine.

  • considering if it’s worth it to have so many different spread out methods

  • theyre fun to use but it creates more chaos then needed

Obviously some of the more terminally online attempts to guilt trip people do not work. I wonder is there even a point to encourage others? Most people won’t change their mind without making their own decision. I think I try to live by example, and being there when people have questions. Being there when people want to slowly eat less meat I think is very helpful. Some online vegans especially on lemmy act like it’s all or nothing, well then these people will never even try eating less animal products.

Thoughts?
