Hey mlem folx! I’m using mlem on iOS.

I’m noticing that comment chains don’t always show up in the app. This happens one of two ways, from what I can tell:

  1. the top level comment appears as normal, and there is an icon for however many replies, but none of them appear unless I share and open it with a browser; or,
  2. I become eventually unable to see comments in comment chains, even if it’s a thread I am participating in.

I don’t know if this is a known thing or not, I admit I didn’t do too much looking through the history here. I hope it’s not a repost.

Thanks for illustrating that I was banned from not just one community I don’t participate in aside from upvoting, but several that I have never even visited. All for “Rule 4,” which as far as I can tell is spamming ads, which I have never done. I’ve tried to message the mods of those communities, but haven’t gotten any kind of response.

It’s really disappointing that this is how Lemmy seems to work. As a new user, I had to actively persevere through the .ml bullshit to understand that lemmy as a whole is not like that. But it’s almost impossible to be a progressive (but not full blown anti-western communist) on an awful lot of this platform.

It really does the other large instances a disservice that those mod/admin practices are so commonplace.

I know the answer is to defederate/block them, but I genuinely find the news and posts interesting, and .ml was one of the instances that I was first looking into, because I literally didn’t understand how the fediverse worked but kept hearing “just pick an instance, there no wrong choice since you have access to all the other instances.”

But even those posts about topics I am educated in and care about, it all just literally seems to be a vessel for a specific type of (dis/mis)information in the comments, which actively preys on the gullible and shuts out even moderately different views.

That specific email was when I knew my mom was irrevocably radicalized.

She wasn’t, and still isn’t, religious. But she was fucking convinced that Obama was literally the antichrist.

This is kinda huge. Germany is one of Israel’s most ardent supporters. It’s really great to see such a clear and concise answer that confirms a commitment to international rule of law over international politics.

Edit: I hope I did not speak too soon, as this seems like relatively positive news. However I am having a hard time finding the original Politico source that this link refers to. I am also unaware of this source’s integrity. Does anybody else have another source; or the original Politico source that is referred to in this article?

Second edit: apparently this is coming from the Twitter/xitter of politico. I don’t have one of those, so I can’t personally verify the veracity of this statement, but it does seem as if Politico (Peter Wilke (@peterjwilke)) reported this. [I put the name and handle in here for others who may be interested in digging a bit more than me before this is more widely reported]

Some of the fastest growing economies are in Africa. Some analysts view it as having the potential to be a core of productivity not too far in the future, especially given its demographic and natural resources.

But it’s a very diverse place, being a continent with many countries, so answering your question is very difficult. Can you be any more specific?

It’s the same story. I believe the first official Iranian statement had language like “involved in a hard landing” without anything else.

They have since turned to asking for prayers for their safe recovery, and apparently asked the EU for satellite imaging to help with search and rescue. [this is from a New York Times timeline that I recently read.]

Do you think it’s socialism that makes the US establishment wary of China?

We just need a few more to see if there’s a trend.

It might be that aggressive wannabe regional power that has already invaded several of its neighbors over the last decade or two, and makes continuous threats directed towards the rest of Europe?

Then by the logic of modern capitalism, doesn’t Unity (and thus, modern gaming) need a hard reboot? It sounds like there is t enough competition in the market, and one company has become “too big to fail” without massive repercussions.

Alternatively, you mention another engine. I don’t know shit about the nuts and bolts of gaming: but if another engine exists, then it should take up space. And if Unity fails, then other games should have a stake in making sure they hire the right talent to keep their games going. Or they risk going under themselves.

I am so relieved to hear those bans aren’t uncommon.

I’m new from Reddit (where I was similarly banned for questioning questionable news sources in relatively niche subs), and I was so sure this was a set up that fostered a bit more conversation and etiquette, like waayyy forever ago. So I was pretty upset when I got eviscerated for trying to argue a coherent point there in favor of using media literacy tools in order to help evaluating sources for bias and funding.

I, too, am quite suspicious, given those mods and associated power posters on lemmy.ml, that there is a coordinated propaganda campaign there. Or, there are some turbo-nerd-tankies that regurgitate it at the speed of light of their own volition.

I am specifically wondering whether there is any recourse to a ban that I believe is ideological rather than based on breaking of any rules.

I haven’t been able to figure out how to directly communicate with the administrators of lemmy.ml, since I’ve recently migrated here from Reddit (because I ignorantly thought unfair censorship from power hungry moderators would be a little less rife here).

Johnny Mnemonic. Keanu Reeves. Henry Rollins. Fuckin… a bright orange videocassette with Keanu Reeves but his head is the tape of the movie.

It’s honestly amazing. And his rant about room service was peak Keanu.
