no one really used this or an ICE truck in a way that would require them to have one.

Thanks for adding this. It saved me a lot of time trying to argue with you. You're clearly the type of person who is gonna believe what you want to believe.

Look honestly this is pretty stupid.

The cyber truck is a super expensive, conservative coded, pavement princess car. The people buying it are probably doing so instead of getting an F350 with one of those illegal mods that lets you pipe out black smoke. It's overall a net positive for the environment.

I feel like this is less about the Cybertruck and more about Elon. I get he's hateable, but people just end up feeling lied to when you use BS logic to pretend that the (supposedly) best selling EV pickup in the US somehow needs to be targeted by climate activists. Just deface his private jet or some shit.

I agree.

I get that Lemmy is super liberal, but this kind of mentality is toxic. It results in a generation that is unwilling to question their beliefs, leans into mob mentality, and doesn't see the need to understand and articulate political beliefs you support.

I liked the SNW temporal cold war explanation.

I get that social media seems to be a constant stream of outrage with nobody actually caring, but I think this story might actually derail her.

There are articles in Fox News, NY Post, and other conservative media outlets about this. They are fairly critical. The fox news one includes tweets from a "country boy" who is like "there's a difference between taking an old animal out back and a fucking puppy".

This post is super refreshing.

There are a lot of "God look at this ugly house listing" communities. Usually when I see posts it's either "gaudy McMansion" or "teardown job listed for $$$ based off property values". I always end up unsubscribing to them because it's just an endless feed of identical posts.

This though? This is uniquely terrible.

Changing the error level in the build config without telling everyone and then making a hyperbolic passive aggressive comic when the senior admonishes you for doing so ?

I'm gonna guess 1 YoE, second job out of college. Enough experience to know what they're doing, but not enough to know when to do it.

Be me (middle aged white woman, not that it matters)

Be homeowner

Be part of HOA

Not really a huge fan but kinda hard to avoid these days

whatever.jpg

HOA pays for lawn care, so there's that

there's supposed to be an area that they won't touch if they see you planted your own stuff

think it would be cool to grow some flowers

Go up to lawncare guy and ask about it

Looks confused, doesn't speak English

I get it, not his fault

Asked four guys now, all don't speak English

Kinda frustrated, but again I get it

see white guy (super pale)

Assume that he's from America because we live in Virginia

Go up to him, tell him I'm happy I found someone who can speak English

Looks at me and takes in what I'm saying. Seems like he can understand me

starts speaking dutch

Whatever.jpg

Go inside

Husband asks me what's wrong

Gladthatheshere.jpg

tell him everything

Tells me to not worry. He'll go outside and won't stop until he finds someone

sosweet.jpg

Comes back about thirty minutes later

"Yeah most of them didn't speak English, but there was one guy who was super helpful. Turns out he's a university student making some cash over the summer "

veryhappy.jpg

"He's actually from Holland, isn't that weird?"

Honestly if you read the actual email I think there could be significant legal trouble ahead.

Spencer talks about how the main barrier to acquiring Nintendo is that they sit on a mountain of cash. He calls that unfortunate. He then proceeded to state a company with connections to Microsoft had just bought a lot of Nintendo shares, and how they could work with said company to make such an acquisition a reality.

The company in question publicly bought a massive amount of Nintendo shares. They then proceeded to pressure Nintendo to invest more capital instead of sitting on the cash pile they have now. They did this under claims that such a move would be beneficial to Nintendo in terms of ROI. However, it would also result in Nintendo being more vulnerable to an acquisition from Microsoft if any of those bets don't pay off.

In short, it could be argued that Microsoft worked with investors to tank Nintendo so they could buy it. That's a huge deal and will probably result in a shitstorm.

So we have two options:

  1. A 52 year old federal judge is somehow tech illiterate in a way that would imply they have absolutely no idea about the fundamentals of modern technology.

  2. A federal judge is asking a large number of extremely basic questions to get their answers on official records so that the cases parameters are clearly defined. He is taking extra care because there's not a lot of direct precedent on these issues.

I'm heavily leaning towards number 2 here. The internet likes to pretend everyone over the age of 40 has no idea how a computer works. The year is 2023. A middle-aged person today was fairly young when computers started to be incorporated into all aspects of society and is well versed in computer literacy. In some ways they are actually much more tech literate than the younger generations. It's almost certain that he knows the difference between Firefox and Google.

Posts like this confuse me.

On the one hand, DS9 isn't really known by people who don't watch Star Trek. The chance of someone randomly running their mouth about it is infinitely lower than something like TNG or TOS.

On the other hand I can't see how anyone who watched DS9 can call Garek noble. One of the best episodes in the series revolves around him orchestrating a plot to trick the Romulans into entering the war by assassinating a Romulan senator. Not only does he show 0 hesitation, but he correctly points out that Sisco went to him precisely because that's his bread and butter.

Any other experiences?

Okay so just to be clear.

You are in an extreme heat wave. There is no power. You see your neighbors struggling due to the heat. You have the ability to invite them over cool down. Doing so would cost virtually $0.

You instead post a meme on lemmy making fun of them.

Even if you don't get along with them, doing something like this would be a huge way to mend fences.

EDIT:

So I the Houston Chronicle has a Texas power outage tracker. According to them, there are like 2k customers without power in the entire state.

Also, Texas doesn't have power outages related to grid capacity in the summer that often. The major power outages this year were caused by storms knocking down lines. The huge one a couple of years ago was related to cold weather.

While the Texas grid does have issues related heat waves, it's not alone in that regard. Basically every southwestern state does, including California. Someone in Texas would probably know this and understand it's ridiculous to act like this problem is unique to Texas.

So I this entire thing, like everything these days, is made up to push a narrative.
