Nay

While I do believe that defederation should be reserved for very serious cases, I don't think it needs to go as far as "egregiously illegal" before we consider it.

And to Lemmygrad specifically, they're the perfect example of why. They may not be the worst filth on the internet, but their reputation as a hive of tankies is casting a bad light on the entirety of Lemmy. Anybody connected to them is going to appear guilty by association, so defederation is a symbolic gesture as much as anything else.

It wouldn't help with things like international tax havens, or shell corps, or creative accounting, the list goes on and on. It doesn't really matter what a single country does, it's a global issue that would require global cooperation to address.

That they follow the same standard doesn't make it irrelevant, it's still a new standard being added to the pile. It's also just a goof.

You can buy some at the grocery store, it says "Moon Cheese" right on the damn bag! They wouldn't just lie about what they're selling

And to make matters annoying, restarting the service that causes the sorting bug can trigger some other bugs (federation errors iirc). So there isn't a "right" answer until the real fix comes.

I'm a big advocate of the hybrid approach: mayo on the bread, butter to grease the pan. The mayo adds a crisp (not crunchy) texture and browns wonderfully, but is helped by the flavor of the butter.

Some butter on the inside of the bread is also great.

I'd be happy to help out, The Agora has a lot of potential to help shape our rapidly-growing community into something great.

I'm admittedly not a "terminally online" kind of guy, but I'm around enough to help keep an eye on things and don't mind making efforts to be more present/visible for the role.

Archive.org is also doomed, I've seen to that one personally.

If you want impressive, you have 4-6 seperate terminal windows that take up the whole screen collectively. The laymen assume you're hacking the NSA or something if they see that.

Nay (for now)

My mind could be changed very easily on this in the future, especially if they get bigger. But in my opinion defederation should be treated as the "nuclear option" for an instance of our size, and a handful of bigots aren't enough for me to want to push the Big Red Button unless they start trouble for us.

Because of federation, I just didn't think about it too hard. I clicked on Sh.itjust.works because the name made me giggle when I saw it, and signed up immediately because the first post I saw was the boss sharing server stats and being totally transparent about operations and intentions. At the time, it was one of the smaller instances that might not last.

Choosing "wrong" never seemed like a big deal, it's not hard to start fresh somewhere else if needed.

Nay

We have open registration anyway, so there wouldn't be much friction if an outsider wanted to create an account to vote. We're large enough that we can rely on our numbers, we just need to make sure everyone knows about the Agora.
