My favourite quote: ‘Rees-Mogg congratulated the Labour leader, Sir Keir Starmer, on “what seems to be a historic victory”, adding, as his final thought, “from the ashes of disaster grow the roses of success. So thank you very much everybody, and good night.”’

I can only read this as him admitting publicly that he and the Tories are a complete disaster.

Yeah, beards have been common since at least the ‘hipster/lumbersexual’ memes which were about 2008 or so. There’s not been any particular drop off since then. It’s just accepted that some people prefer or look better with a beard.

I really don’t get this ‘humour’. What is happening? It’s not even funny because it’s absurd, ‘cos it’s never absurd enough. It’s like the comic equivalent of looking at a Facebook Minions meme.

Props on the edits though, they’re clean.

“Striking” is usually the word. It can be used for bad looks as well as good.

Having tried several Lemmy clients, I can safely say that Mlem is my favourite in terms of user experience, except one, even though I am sure I’ve read this is possible in Mlem I cannot find how to block an instance, which was relatively easy to do in Memmy.

It doesn’t appear to be an option in any settings menu, nor an option in an instance profile.

If this isn’t, in fact, possible, I guess this post is a feature request then!

If only someone had told them that this exact outcome would happen.

Recently switched from Android. What’s pissing me off the most is the back button on every app being on the top left. They chose the least accessible place to put the most common action.

Hi, for a while I’ve been having a serious problem with piped on Firefox iOS client (not been able to test on other platforms yet as my PC has shat itself). I am registered to rafo.tech and while that might instance is up I don’t have any issue. I once tried to log in to kavin.rocks by mistake and now the kavin.rocks page spam refreshes literally every second and there is nothing I can do to stop it. Clearing my browsing data did seem to solve the problem, however when I tried register an alternate account on kavin.rocks so I could have a backup site with my subs for when rafo.tech is down it is straight back to its spam refreshing behaviour. This seems to have effectively banned me from ever making an account or using kavin.rocks.

I was wondering if this is a common occurrence and I’m missing an easy fix. How can I unfuck my situation?

As you can see from the shelf below, this is from OmegaMart a Las Vegas art installation cum theme park attraction. There's some pretty great ads for it on YouTube.

I am inclined to agree - trying to weigh things up:

Pros

  • Bragging rights to be able to say that we got Threads to defederate from us.
  • May hurt Threads' popularity in the short term.
  • A warm fuzzy feeling from the above two points.
  • Umm... that's it?

Cons

  • Potentially undermines the impact the Anti-Meta Pact by not immediately defederating with them, actions are usually stronger in unison.
  • Related to the above, any instance federated with them, even if they then become hostile, adds to marketing numbers to allow Threads to legitimise themselves as being connected to X other communities.
  • The "Court of Public Opinion" probably won't be too sympathetic to us if we spam mommy Meta's new social network with goatse. I suppose that shouldn't matter, but if we make ourselves too unpopular it may be a pain in the ass if more mainstream instances like lemmy.world defed from us due to making ourselves pariahs.
  • Potentially brings the Eye of Sauron upon us.

Weight these how you will, and please let me know if there's others to add to the list. To me the cons outweigh the pros, though I am willing to have my mind changed.-
