Mildly Interesting

This is for strictly mildly interesting material. If it's too interesting, it doesn't belong. If it's not interesting, it doesn't belong.

This is obviously an objective criteria, so the mods are always right. Or maybe mildly right? Ahh.. what do we know?

Just post some stuff and don't spam.

lol... I thought you had a camera inside a running dishwasher at first. That's... NOT water

[–] [email protected] 47 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'm as intrigued and horrified as everyone else. Also, this is a good time to remind everyone that you can edit post titles on Lemmy, so you can correct the typo. Unless, for all utensil purposes, you meant it to be there.

Obviously OP has no utengency.

[–] [email protected] 36 points 1 year ago (1 children)

i think you have bigger issues than just being a slob if that happened after only a week

Spiders are quick and opportunistic. They'll make a web like that in a few hours at most.

Since it's summer, fruit flies probably bred like crazy in the washer, and one lucky spider was there to feast.

The spider is a true bro, I might add.

I dont think so. Theres not enough food there for mold to grow like that.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

I’ve never seen mold grow like that, but I’m not a moldologist so idk.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

I'm also curious

[–] Quills 4 points 1 year ago

Oooh so that's a spider web!

If the beard is made with fungus, is it called a bread instead?

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago

I want to add that you likely shouldn't run the dishwasher before leaving town for a week in case there's some failure. Don't want to come home to a ton of water damage, that gets expensive to fix quick.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago (5 children)

Wait. Do you people just throw dishes in the wash without rinsing them first?

[–] [email protected] 26 points 1 year ago (2 children)

The washing machine does it for you.

It would be like vacuuming your house by yourself before your Roomba turns on.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago

Unethical product idea:

A “dishwasher” that’s really cheap. Why, you ask? Well, because you need to rinse your dishes thoroughly before using the dishwasher.

In reality it’s just a box with a speaker so that it sounds like a dishwasher. If any customer complains, just tell them that they need to pre wash their dishes better.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Y'all trust your Roombas?

I got another Roomba just to keep the other one honest (and rescue missions).

Modern dishwashers don't need you to rinse first

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (2 children)

My dishwasher is pretty new and if I don’t rinse things off relatively thoroughly beforehand I’m guaranteed to have stuck on food bits after the dry cycle.

You should watch this lovely video from TechnologyConnections: https://youtu.be/_rBO8neWw04

Big fan of his channel. Just watched him talk about a retro-aesthetic fridge for an hour a couple days ago.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

He's awesome. I hope his dishwasher videos can help you out!

Put soap in to be used on the pre wash cycle too. I use powder and put some in the dispenser and some on the door right before I close it.

I very rarely have any problems with stuck on food bits save for some really difficult stuff like herbs that were in oil that sat out for a day or two and dried. But then leaving it in for another cycle always finishes the job.

The entire point of a dishwasher is that it sacrifices a little bit of electricity to save A LOT of water.

Pre-rinsing is antithetical.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 year ago

Yeah. That's what you're supposed to do with modern dishwashers. Scrape off any leftovers, but rinsing is unnecessary and just wastes water.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

I’m with you, my dishwasher is more of a sanitation device than a washer.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I think there are bigger issues if a spider can just go to town while you’re away for a week…

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

How is there that much mold after a week? That's insane!

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (2 children)

If you turned it on now, would it clean the mold? Or do you just throw away the dishes

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I think it would clean it. Especially cause it's a dish washer. But tbh I have no idea and there's probably a dishwasher expert that can answer this lmao

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago

I'd run it twice, on the hottest water setting, just because i'm paranoid.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Time for a science experiment I suppose (not me, i dont have a dishwasher)

Hey, sidenote: you guys know you can wash your dishwasher, right? There are specialized cleaners for it. If you keep getting residue or small pieces of food left on dishes, you can check if the blades are clogged but also cleaning your dishwasher might help.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Yeah it's nasty but I'd just run some vinegar through it and call it a day.

The forbidden cotton candy.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

So not only did the dish run away with the spoon, they got married too?
