Newsom: Do Fires next!
Wasn't this known? long before the election. All these things have been earmarked for privatization. Something about some guy who already kissed Trumps ass so he has dibs on government weather data so he can sell it back to you. I remember hearing about his.
Attention all Hurricanes! Your target is 1100 S. Ocean Blvd., Palm Beach, Florida, United States!
Magic Marker Man will undoubtedly take care of y’all
That moment is actually 100% what made me realize we're fucked. I waited for weeks for any sign of the public in large to be like, "Yoooo, he legitimately thought he could fool people with that?! It wasn't a joke?! He might actually be a massive idiot." Was only met with silence, sadness, and a longgggg road to acceptance.
Closing your eyes and ignoring a problem like it doesn't exist is something that children, and Republicans, seem to do an awful lot!
Can't have hurricanes if you aren't monitoring them!
Can't have COVID deaths if you stop counting!
Can't have Government corruption if you terminate any oversight!
don't leave out the simultaneous inventing of problems that DON'T actually exist:
- library books with gay characters
- immigrant "invasion"/ "great replacement"
- WMD in the middle east (AGAIN)
- oppression of christians
- censorship of right-wing anything
- vaccines/masks (for anyone except ICE)
- abortion/birth control
- "nobody wants to work"
too many to list, but suffice to say: if maga says it's a problem, you can bet your likely insufficient paycheck that it isn't
Honest question, will they ever have an epiphany? Florida having no warnings for hurricanes seems like it's going to be an issue that affects them.
it's extremely difficult to deprogram cult mind control/brainwashing. and the more people who are tangled up in it, the harder it is. short answer, no. they will not have an epiphany. we are pretty much mirroring 1930s germany. the difference here is that the state surveillance is pretty much way beyond anything even imagined in 1984 (the book or the actual year). it may well be too late.
stay safe and educate yourself on what to be prepared for
There's a German novel called "NSA - Nationales Sicherheitsamt" (which is a literal translation of the US National Security Agency to German).
The plot is an alternative history in which the Nazis had some of today's tech (read computers, internet, databases), although quite "ancient" and not with the full potential unlocked, that we have today. Then an analyst realizes, what one can do with this tech and that her queries endanger her friends more and more.
They did have computers back then. ibm helped them right out, just like modern tech is helping the nazis now.
Don't forget actual laws passing in poorly educated state legislatures banning "chem trails" 🤦
poorly educated
he said abortions wouldn’t be necessary for rape victims. “If it’s legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut the whole thing down,”

they are paralyzingly fucking stupid. and they're running everything
A skillfully utilized Sharpie will be our only hope moving forward
I believe it's only done to blame others, if there'll be a democratic government in the next decade they'll point and jeer "Look at how many pandemic, medical and environmental deaths there are now, while under maga we had none!"
They'll also claim that under maga's light rules and regulations the economy did better, cheaper cars because they can "pollute" more, cheaper food because of less restrictions on added chemicals etc.
It's always been to shift responsibility for negative effects forward.

It's more insidious than that. Imagine the next democratic government inheriting this mess. They re-open science, education, and oversight departments, who discover shock that things are really bad. MAGA will say, "See, things are bad under YOUR leadership! Can't blame us!".
If you get hit by a hurricane, you've obviously done something to anger god.
looks at Florida
Lmfao. Floridians must be so confused about the leopard infestation.
it's already established that the fascists can blame every bad thing that happens on the democrats/gays/non-whites (no matter how fucking ludicrous that sounds to normal people) and their gullible bumpkin fuck followers will swallow it whole and beg for more. so when the havenots get obliterated by a hurricane, they'll just reinforce that hatred for "other." meanwhile everyone's owners will absolutely have ample warning, skip town, and rebuild their shit (no one else's) with tax money leeched from the ones who get nothing--"it's the democrats' fault there's no money to rebuild your neighborhood"
Have fun with that Florida - got what you voted for!
I presume trump thinks he can do their job with with a marker and some poster board.
Ah the Covid approach to hurricanes. If you stop looking for them they cease to exist.
Presumably so Trump doesn't have to make his own hurricane maps with a sharpie anymore?
Next it will be a maximum allotment for tornadoes? If the count reaches 12 no more tornadoes are registered?
I wonder if Doctorow has expanded his discussion of Enshittification to talk about the very special cases where Republicans/conservatives are involved in making things even worse than the typical kind...
