Closing your eyes and ignoring a problem like it doesn't exist is something that children, and Republicans, seem to do an awful lot!

Can't have hurricanes if you aren't monitoring them!

Can't have COVID deaths if you stop counting!

Can't have Government corruption if you terminate any oversight!

don't leave out the simultaneous inventing of problems that DON'T actually exist:

  • library books with gay characters
  • immigrant "invasion"/ "great replacement"
  • WMD in the middle east (AGAIN)
  • oppression of christians
  • censorship of right-wing anything
  • vaccines/masks (for anyone except ICE)
  • abortion/birth control
  • "nobody wants to work"

too many to list, but suffice to say: if maga says it's a problem, you can bet your likely insufficient paycheck that it isn't

Honest question, will they ever have an epiphany? Florida having no warnings for hurricanes seems like it's going to be an issue that affects them.

it's extremely difficult to deprogram cult mind control/brainwashing. and the more people who are tangled up in it, the harder it is. short answer, no. they will not have an epiphany. we are pretty much mirroring 1930s germany. the difference here is that the state surveillance is pretty much way beyond anything even imagined in 1984 (the book or the actual year). it may well be too late.

stay safe and educate yourself on what to be prepared for

There's a German novel called "NSA - Nationales Sicherheitsamt" (which is a literal translation of the US National Security Agency to German).

The plot is an alternative history in which the Nazis had some of today's tech (read computers, internet, databases), although quite "ancient" and not with the full potential unlocked, that we have today. Then an analyst realizes, what one can do with this tech and that her queries endanger her friends more and more.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

They did have computers back then. ibm helped them right out, just like modern tech is helping the nazis now.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 hours ago

Yeah, but that novel assumes, that they also had internet, electronic cash, mobile phones, etc. so you get the modern tracking possibilities combined with the literal Nazis. They just weren't really proficient in using that, but that changes through out the story.

Don't forget actual laws passing in poorly educated state legislatures banning "chem trails" 🤦

[–] [email protected] 17 points 16 hours ago

poorly educated

he said abortions wouldn’t be necessary for rape victims. “If it’s legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut the whole thing down,”

they are paralyzingly fucking stupid. and they're running everything

A skillfully utilized Sharpie will be our only hope moving forward

I believe it's only done to blame others, if there'll be a democratic government in the next decade they'll point and jeer "Look at how many pandemic, medical and environmental deaths there are now, while under maga we had none!"

They'll also claim that under maga's light rules and regulations the economy did better, cheaper cars because they can "pollute" more, cheaper food because of less restrictions on added chemicals etc.

It's always been to shift responsibility for negative effects forward.

It's more insidious than that. Imagine the next democratic government inheriting this mess. They re-open science, education, and oversight departments, who discover shock that things are really bad. MAGA will say, "See, things are bad under YOUR leadership! Can't blame us!".
