Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

Oh I started last Jan (off risa) and have seen everything multiple times at this point. Went to a local fan meet-up earlier this month!

Be careful though, this can lead to bad, bad places...

I hate the "Shut Up Wesley" trope, so this is very wholesome!!

[–] [email protected] 10 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm not sure why those are so funny. Maybe bc they are so "over the top" as to not register as being real? Like Frank Burns in MASH - if an irl person was that way it would horrifying, but as a "bit" it's funny?

Whatever helps drive engagement to Lemmy.

ENGAGEMENT. GET IT? ENGAGE.

FUCKING. LAUGH.

Grew up watching TNG and Voyager but haven't really watched since. Subbed here thinking I'd get a funny every now and then. Half my feed is now Star Trek memes. No regrets.

[–] [email protected] 20 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

You really should at least watch DS9 too

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 week ago

I've heard really good things about DS9 its actually on my media server rn I just haven't got to it yet. Guess this is the push I need, haha.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 2 weeks ago

i don't usually understand them, but i'm glad people are having fun

One of my friends thinks I'm obsessed with Star Trek because of the memes i send her.
She'll even send me one every once in a while!

My wife thinks I'm obsessed too.

She's right, of course.

But she doesn't have to remind me of it...

Joke's on her, I turned her into a nerd. She bought the silmarillion.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago

She crossed thru the door. I'm impressed.

Alt: clip from the Terminator movies of the military guy saying "Skynet's fully operational. Processing at 60 teraflops a second."

[–] [email protected] 12 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

the military guy

That's Lorian, son of T'Pol and Trip!

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 week ago

I heard he was very lazy growing up.

They called him Sloth Lorian.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

But is he really? He was from a future that was erased by the actions of the NX-01.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

60 teraflops is still pretty fast. But I can only assume 60teraflops/s is an acceleration of operational speed which would be crazy impressive.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

I agree. BUT, if you allow "teraflop" as a noun, then adding an s makes it plural, and it can still be accurate to say 60 teraflops a second to mean simply (the original definition of) 60 teraflops.

FYI Lemmy comments use markdown syntax, this means you can place the alt text in the brackets like this ![alt text](link). Most clients display that when the image doesn't load or the user clicks on the image.

Edit: I'm not trying to complain, I think it's really good to see more alt texts.

I’ve always liked this meme format, but this one in particular is great!

Y'all keep doing your thing. They brighten my day.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 week ago

You folks are amazing.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 week ago

It's true, and I love it.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

The meme is meh, but that photo is hilarious.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 weeks ago

one might even say it is a meh meh meme.

I've only ever watched The Original Series but I enjoy the memes regardless. Also I am not a boomer just had public access to a retro channel while in foster care which resulted in Star Trek, Svengoolie, and Naruto being a highlight.

Edit: Fucken TWO that's what you chose autocorrect?!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

So when are TNG, DS9 and VOY on the agenda? Also you don't need to be a boomer to like TOS (else I might be older than I thought)

[–] vaultdweller013 2 points 1 week ago

Possibly never, unless I end up in a situation where I really not some of that type of sci-fi. It's largely in that awkward area where it just makes me want to reread, watch, or play other stuff I like more. I keep rereading my Ciaphus Cain novels when I read Yojou Senki for example.
