With the war in Pakistan i had to download reddit, insta and twitter to keep up.

I genuinely despise them so much and going back to non lemmy social media after so long just reminds me of how fucking grateful I am that Lemmy exists.

Bluesky is fine simply bc there is noone there. The people who post moved but the masses didn't.

LinkedIn in lunatics.

Reddit is probably the one ive ended up gating more than any other despite it being the one I could bear pre Lemmy.

Twitter I haven't used much anyways. But feels horrible with the limited use.

Insta is all thirst traps somehow.

Facebook, I live in a small rural town of about 4000 people and the amount of brain damage that is posted is insane. Not just political but just everything in general is just brain rot.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I like deliberate brainrot. Not accidental brainrot

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

Agreed. I have not actively used Facebook in years, but it is a bit of a joy to login once a month and just scroll through all of the lunacy.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

LinkedIn.

Imagine Twitter and Facebook teaming up for a Dragon Ball style fusion, turning into this cringe fake business guru with a Ghibli style profile picture, spitting out AI generated posts and running impression based non-sense polls.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

I agree that the linkedin culture is really bad, but the algorithm itself isn't too horrible compared to facebook/Instagram.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago

Whatsapp, reddit and youtube.
The rest I can do without.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

I hate them all so much the last one I used and made an account for was Facebook, and that account has stayed entirely unused for about a decade. I can only handle so much stupidity at a time and I hate being disappointed by my friends' uncooked, ignorant opinions so I'd rather be blind and deaf to what they do and say online, I just judge them for what they say and do to me directly...

I don't think Reddit counts as 'social media', it's a message board, a place for pseudonymous debate, but not what I would consider a social media site.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 days ago (3 children)

The way Reddit fosters echo-chambers probably makes it the worst in my book.

[–] UniversalMonk 1 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

Lemmy is quickly becoming the same way. People have started entire threads in different forums to try to get me banned from Lemmy, just because they don't agree with me. Rather than just be mad at me and block me, they legit go to other threads, and even call out admins, in an effort to get me banned from every instance.

All because I didn't vote the way they wanted me! lolol

I still prefer Lemmy to Reddit though!

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 day ago

Reddit might be bad but the garbage rage baiting and algorithms designed to show you the dumbest takes on twitter and threads is sooo much worse in my opinion

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

As if the idea of a sub wasn't echo chambery enough you add downvotes to that

[–] Stomata 3 points 1 day ago

I hate Facebook more than anything

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

Facebook. It’s easy to drop all the other platforms, but even my homeowner association insists on using FB for communication, which locks everyone into Meta’s data harvest. 🀒

[–] [email protected] 13 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Twitter I've hated since before Musk owned it, but I'd say Instagram is the one I hate the most, mainly because of how overtly hypocritical, condescending, passive-aggressive and false its culture is. At least Twitter is honest, somehow.

If twitter is the eden for Nazis, Instagram is the eden for Karens.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

On insta I barely look at comments and my friends send brainrot or memes which is fine by me. I just dont interact with the site on my own and that makes it bareable.

Don't post or comment anything.

This is the reason I like Lemmy lol. Posting and interacting with people is nice.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Twitter

I never used twitter, but even before Musk took over it was ALWAYS a fundamentally negative force. Whenever its name was cited it was some shit. People fighting and wishing each other dead.

Other social media all has that, but Twitter seems to be ONLY that

[–] UniversalMonk 2 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

but even before Musk took over it was ALWAYS a fundamentally negative force.

Yep! What's hilarious to me is that so many people would post how much they hated Twitter, how it was ruining society, etc. Then Musk gets it, then all of a sudden people say they are gonna stop using it. Ok, well you hated it just as much before, but now you are not gonna use it?

Also, they didn't stop using it. The platform didn't die, like everyone gleefully predicted, and it's still sucks. It sucks equally as bad as before Musk.

I quit twitter long before Musk, and never got back on.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 days ago (1 children)

For sheer aggravation, Facebook. I've been on it long enough to remember the chronological timeline, which made it easy to see your friends' posts. Now you basically have to visit your friends' profile to see what they've posted recently.

Instagram/Threads I don't hate quite so much, but I avoid Meta products as much as possible due to my hatred of Zuck. I left Twitter and Reddit a while ago, not because I hated them but rather because I hate Elon and spez.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 days ago

Not even war could make me download Facebook

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Tik Tok, mostly because it represent "fast entertainment" and is the epitome of "the algorithm chooses for you" which is what I despise the most. Now everythink tries to be like it because it's famous, and everythink is more shitty.

[–] UniversalMonk 1 points 7 hours ago

I never understood the appeal of Tik Tok. I hated it the second it came out. What's the point of watching a 15-second vid of someone lip-syncing to a song?! I don't get the appeal.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

But thats what all social media has always been? Or long been

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago

To a certain extent yes, but at least on most social you at least follow single creators you enjoy, and you are usually presented with a lost of content they made so you choose. With tik tok you are served a random video and the algorithm chooses the next one, I don't even know if when finished to see a video you can get a list of reccommended of you are served one only. It's just a differenr structure.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Linkedin. Its all fake shit...

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

There are some true believers, but everyone else is posting with a gun named poverty pointing at the back of their heads. Don't forget to smile while you suffer!

I came in to comment about Truth Social or voat when it was active. You've convinced me I'm wrong because many people are forced to use LinkedIn. No consent given. That's the winning quality in this competition.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago

The human centipede of social media.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I did hate X but am off that cesspit now. I hate hate hate what Facebook has become. I can now only bear to go on there about once a month and everytime I get angry as fuck.

I miss MySpace.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 days ago

MySpace is before my time. My first account was fb I think.

Yeah twitter was the one that made me quit all social media years ago.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Reddit. When they implemented their API pricing, they could have been upfront, but instead they put words into the mouths of 3rd party developers. When the 3rd party developers posted the recordings of the conversations, Reddit doubled down instead of apologizing. At that point, I washed my hands of Reddit. People who will directly lie in the face of evidence cannot be trusted. I have not been back since.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Reddit was always like this.

Now they've made ads indistinguishable from posts.

The discourse is generally low quality, divisive and likely bot driven.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 days ago

Yes the quality of discourse is in the gutters.

Thats the biggest problem now

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 days ago

I just liked the concept of having subreddits. But Lemmy kind if fills that for me now so I am fine without it.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I don't have the energy to hate like that. If I don't like it and I'm not getting any use out of it, I just avoid it.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

i hate when i'm forced to use something that i don't like, yea. wish i could avoid so much of the garbage in my life.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago

That is the way. (Also what ive mostly done until last week)

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I especially hate that Reddit sold out so hard, because it really is the only search result worth anything anymore. I quit Instagram and Twitter as well, can't quite give up Facebook because of my Livejournal friends. Would give my kidney for Livejournal to make a comeback.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

Reddit was genuinely good at a point! It's insane how far it fell in 2 years. Or maybe my standards are different now

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Instagram, maybe? I can avoid twitter, but Instagram is a different kind of pain for me. The closest alternative is fucking xiouhongshu (rednote) and that is literally Chinese

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Literally Chinese being the critique is so funny

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

I don't speak Chinese, I can't use it properly, I would willingly use if it I knew

I suppose Facebook, if only because it's the hardest to avoid for me. Friends, family, local businesses, charities, bands I follow, bands I play in, friggin everything is on FB and the feed is such a cesspool at this point. And the only thing that might have a snowball's chance in Hell of challenging its dominance is maybe Discord? Some of my friends seem to be spending more time there of late, and a few community groups I'm involved with have started their own too. But I dunno.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

No chance in hell discord replaces it. I can't understand discord no way grandma's are.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 days ago

Instagram/Facebook and its "Business" products. I truly believe Meta actively works on making its products as unusable as possible in a brower. As in: removing, breaking or obscuring functions that work in their apps. **This makes working as a team with different device types a massive pain in the ass. **

Don't even try to be logged out of an account and use these sites in a browser. You might as well have a 5 year old write a html page on a ducking Disney Princess Play Click & Swap Laptop that is more usable in a browser than Instagram without an account.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 days ago

Twitter may be embracing fascist slop, nazi bullshit, and gorenography, but I still think Instagram is worse. It is near impossible to see what your friends are posting if they're not an overachiever meme page or a corporate entity, the fyp is like the same 5 or 4 tags of content you've liked recently, and let's not forget that they did nothing to address the hate algorithms that were exposed years ago

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I don't know which I hate the most, but since I don't use any Meta products (finally dropped Whatsapp too last March), or Twitter (which I dropped after they made BetterTweetDeck unusable even before Felon took over), or Reddit (got banned from r/worldnews, r/asmongold among others), or Snapchat (which went along with insta and Threads earlier), so basically the only social media I actively use is... Youtube? And I hate all the social media aspects in there that I cannot evade. So I guess Youtube's social media AI slop is the one I tolerate the most.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I dont even think of yt as social media but a video hosting site.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah, that (the video hosting) is why I'm still using it. I started using Youtube in high school at the latest, so around 20 years ago (Youtube was launched in -05 so it couldn't be earlier) and it's the only one from those days I still use. But because everything tries to be a social media, and because of Alphabet's rampant capitalism and the continued enshittification of everything it lies its grubby, fat, little fingers (kinda like DJT's in a way), it has those disgusting aspects of social media forced on its users.

btw have you encountered the forced AI voice translation of videos yet? if there is one part of modern internet that I hate and absolutely despise the most, that causes more rashes than ads and more epileptic fits than all of the AI slop you can force down my throat, is when the internet is in my own language when it shouldn't be and I have never asked it to be. if I'd want to watch shit in my own language I'd fucking search for shit in my own language, and there is a reason I never do (because it's shit and cringe as fuck). if you're gonna offer this service to the unwashed masses, at least let them op out. But no, it's always on by default, and the video creator has to turn it off.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

Ive seen ai videos with ai voices. Including translations. I despise it all. Just skip all ai slop, but never forced translations. Just stuff that people have translated and posted. Didnt realise yt was doing this.

Ofc auto subtitle translations ive used

Facebook, for all that they were and all that they have become. I don't use it, won't use it, but I can't change others' behavior, and so its very existence continues to reduce my quality of life. Facebook gave us Facebook, Zuck, and eventually Meta. I do not like them, Sam I Am.

Edit: grammar
