well for starters we dont believe the police account of the sons killing. Why should we? Cops lie and bully as part of their job and are held to no professional standards of conduct whatsoever. They are known to lie frequently in court as well. So how utterly stupid would we all have to be to just accept the cops narrative when the defendant is dead? We need video, or the cops are likely lying. They showed the dad the video and admit that it doesnt support the cops narrative. They are some of the most untrustworthy self serving gangsters on the planet, their narrative means nothing at all.

Also we've all been fed 40 years of nonstop cop dramas on tv where the climax moment of all of them is them snapping and self righteously and violently taking the law into their own stupid hands. And the "dirty cop" stereotype is so worn its a tired cliche. But we're supposed to pretend they are simply who they say they are when its convenient for them? The cops themselves watch those shows.

Third, cops dont hire the best and brightest. If your IQ is too high you arent allowed to graduate. They want them stupid. The US also has one of the most minimal standards to hire law enforcement in the civilized world. It takes substantially more training to drive a bus or cut hair than it does to be a cop. During training they are given Israeli training, and sent to "killology" classes, where they are instructed to maximize every situation for dominance and brutality, or they are sternly told by some fatcat dipshit consultants that they are as good as dead. So they are trained to instigate conflict and then pin it on others and pretend those are crimes. Its outrageous, unconstitutional and just plain stupid. They need adult supervision that they dont have, and they need standards and ethics that they don't have or want. They have been fighting the most basic of common sense reforms for over a hundred years.

Theres a reason the rest of the world issues travel warnings to their citizens when they come to the US that our police are dangerous and apt to do illegal bullying things.

And you want to trot out "ethics" like its a poodle at a dog show when what I said above is the backdrop of what we are talking about? Ethics doesnt start with the very small context you want it to start with. Justice only exists within a larger system of universal justice, and our system isnt Just.

How can you judge the police's handling of the situation that resulted in the killing of the son as absolutely unjustified based on what was in the article?

To start with, by not judging it in a vacuum.

I commend you for wrestling with the ethics, but be careful what you take for granted. A kid is dead, and a father is likely looking around at how police misconduct has been handled, even before a fascist takeover of our federal government, and concluding that justice is not on offer to him or his kind unless he returns some measure of balance to the scales.

This is wrong, it’s tragic all around, but stuff like this will continue until there is real justice to be had.

Of course there's tragedy all around in this situation, this is neither the first or last example of dysfunctional law enforcement.

In a first step, maybe the son was in a stolen vehicle. Maybe they were running away. Neither is an offence tied with a death penalty, and especially not without trial. What if they'd been kidnapped or coerced?

Now to the tricky part, with media telling of people disappearing in the streets, or just increasing violence, being armed isn't unreasonable. And possibly even legal. Not subject to the death penalty, and not without trial.

If they were running away, they're not endangering the police - why were they killed? Not in enforcing the law, not in self defence.

There's plenty of reason for a relative to feel injustice has been done. And it's well known the police systematically avoid and deflect correcting such misjustice, as well as harass those seeking that.

It's not a far reach to take matters in your own hands, especially in your grief finding you've lost what to live for.

Mind you, if the police were doing their job properly, they wouldn't neither feel the need to shoot-to-kill, nor would they be targeted by vigilante retaliation.

Indeed, I want to see the video and who was the police officer involved in the shooting.

He didn't take out the cop that killed his son, he drove into a random deputy on traffic duty.

And this incident happened the morning after his son was killed - although I agree there's never much hope for the system to police itself, this was too soon for any prosecutors or judges or anyone to have failed to hold the cop accountable

Not until the jury decides to acquit on ethical grounds.
