It’s already been cut off for a significant portion of the us due to the ‘take a picture of your id’ law

[–] [email protected] 25 points 1 month ago (1 children)

VPN providers are no shit doing a brisk business because of this

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Vpns or the next thing those same states are going to ban. It's the obvious Next Step.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Good luck with banning something that's an integral part of most large enterprises' internal security practices

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Normally, I'd agree, but these people are trying to fire aircraft controllers in the middle of an aircraft controller shortage.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

I think that's a different kettle of fish. You try telling AWS (or perhaps more relevantly Palantir) they can't use a VPN to gate access to internal systems and you'll have a much bigger fight. And once it's permissable in some contexts, then it becomes much harder to gatekeep it even in contexts that you do legally forbid, since you can't just blanket ban it at ISP level. Of course, I suppose you could enforce that ISPs blacklist certain VPN providers, but... Yeah anyway it becomes too tangled once you're beyond the legislation phase and enforcement becomes a nightmare is what I guess I'm trying to say.

And it seems that the Louisiana is the only state smart enough to have this kinda law figured out a solution that pornhub is ok with. They use a third party tool to verify access, so the government doesn't get to know who or what access is given to.

What baffles me about Trump supporters is that they were all told that tariffs mean we get paid more by other countries. They believed it. They didn’t believe it would cause a trade war or increased prices. Then they are told, yeah, we lied, tariffs will increase prices and will cause a trade war. And they’re like: fuck yeah! We’ll win this trade war!

They will believe anything, even after being lied to, and will change their political stance based on whatever he is currently saying. How anyone lives so mindlessly is beyond me.

[–] [email protected] 26 points 1 month ago (1 children)

There's always a reason for it though. The right always spins it in a way that of you don't have the facts, or even just a few of the facts, you believe what they say. And if you have the facts ready and can logically prove them wrong based on their partial facts, they will shift to saying that my source of the facts is wrong or unreliable. If you manage to find them sources from something they deem reliable, they just say they will research it later when they get a chance but never actually research it. There's always a way for them to dance around reality because reality is an ever shifting thing for them. There's always a lie or conspiracy afoot for them to deny basic reality as it's presented to them. I work with these people and live in a conservative area. There is no getting through to them and if you manage, they come back a few days later slowly going back to their old way of thinking. In the end, it's not about justice, reality, logic, or fact. It's about fear, anger, and hatred. That's what drives them. No reasoning with someone like that.

this is why republicans have been systematically destroying public education.

Look I am 100% behind Canada on this whole thing, but something tells me we won't have too much trouble finding alternate sources of fap material.

[–] [email protected] 24 points 1 month ago

The US has been adding more and more digital verification laws which block all porn unless you tell Uncle Sam what you're up to.

Digital verification laws are an abomination as is, and no free speech supporter could remotely support them.

Digital verification could be done anonymously, but there's no power in that.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 month ago (1 children)

You say that, but Aylo has a pretty big lock on the industry. I honestly didn't realize they were Canadian.

I think the only thing saving us right now is that Canada is targeting against maga supporters, and though they use porn more than the rest of us, it's still a universal product.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago

They own like, 6 sites I didn't know they owned, until that stupid fucking law took place in my shithole state.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Aylo (Pornhub parent) owns the following porn sites:

Brazzers Pornhub RedTube YouPorn Xtube Digital Playground Men.com Mofos Nutaku Reality Kings Sean Cody Twistys WhyNotBi.com

enjoy your sketchy sites, Americans!

[–] [email protected] 25 points 1 month ago (7 children)

Ok I've wanted to ask this question but can't figure out who to ask it to:

Can America cut off our digital subscriptions? Examples that I care about: Steam... That's all I can think about but I guess streaming services? Maybe Spotify?

Can Trump announce a digital embargo and shut Canadians out of their paid for libraries, since it's all just "renting" and never owning anyways?

[–] [email protected] 20 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Unequivocally yes, they can do that.

It would be an extreme measure, but I have been warning people and emailling my MP/MPP about this issue.

All it would take for our phones to stop working is Apple and Google invalidating one security certificate. They could release backdroored versions of our phone operating systems (I'm sure somebody would be checking the OS checksums somewhere).

US cloud companies being forced to stop allowing canadian credit cards alone would kill most canadian tech.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Google runs their own cloud hosting so I think they would fight that as it would really hurt their business, so I hope trump does try and piss off more people in power.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

And when has Trump cared about these things?

As long as the US congress and senate let him rule as king, he's king, and he'll just claim any bad press is Google's unfair retribution.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

Well he has backed down and some stuff recently because I'm assuming he knows he needs the tech bros to stay in power. They let him control the narrative. If he alienated them, that would be alienating his main ally in his re election campaign.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago

Frankly I would love it if something would hurt the credit card industry. The fact that a transactional service charges a % of the transaction itself is insane.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Way to speak that evil into existence

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago

I know and I'm sorry.

[–] heavydust 14 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

That would be economical suicide. Every European company would see this as a threat and move away from American cloud services which is all the infrastructure and servers.

[–] ayyy 8 points 1 month ago

What gives you the impression that he cares about ruining the US economy?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

Economic suicide is the current administration's economic policy

[–] ryedaft 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Spotify sucks ass but it's Swedish. Their servers probably run on AWS but almost everything runs on AWS. And they are listed on an American stock exchange (through Luxembourg, probably for tax evasion reasons).

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yeah I didn't mean to single out Spotify or slander or by implying it was American. I just use so few of those sorts of services and was searching for a second example.

[–] ryedaft 3 points 1 month ago

You did motivate me to finally cancel Spotify though so that's good.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago

Nothing is stopping digital services from doing this right now, much less with a presidential order.

[–] CowsLookLikeMaps 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Regardless of whether it's possible, that would be untenable. The USA tech bros would lose a ton of money on a giant customer and the rest of the world would boycott even harder, maybe even block american services. Canada's Shopify alone would be enough of a deterrent.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

You think? Canada is less than 1/10th the us population right? Keeping orange man happy and securing more tax breaks and free tax payer money for some "investment" or whatever would probably smooth that out....

Other countries backing us up would be nice though and certainly up those numbers...

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The oligarchs would “take care” of trump before it got that bad for them

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

Until they can't. Part of the progression of fascism is that the fascist leaders are beholden to business leaders until suddenly it's inverted. Oligarchs are free to oppose putin so long as they're comfortable being defenistrated.

Trump and business leaders are clearly in a push and pull at the moment. But the second trump can send bezos to prison or seize his assets for opposition the rich will become just as subjected to the party as the rest of us.

"soft power" 👨‍🍳😘

[–] threelonmusketeers 1 points 1 month ago

Damn it, I just got it now. Well done, OP.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I already go to xvideos for all of my maple syrup themed porn anyways

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 month ago

That's an EU based site. I imagine Trump's tariffs will apply there when their leaders don't say he's the prettiest dictator.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I've been downloading my porn since before streaming was a thing. My stupid country will suffer, but I'll be set for life. Punish us. We deserve it.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago

Tariff me harder, daddy

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago

If you can, pay for ethical porn.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago

The administration would love that. Porn is a sin that makes young sexually frustrated men able to relieve some of that frustration when they could be channeling it into terrorism

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 month ago

Please do it would be so funny! XVideos and XHamsters should also do it!

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

General question about this sub - does it populate from Reddit’s r/ehbuddyhoser? Exactly how does this work? Asking for a hoser.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

AFAIA, we only federate with the other parts of the Fediverse. Walled gardens, like Reddit, FB, Instagram, and all other corporate owned social media, except Blue sky, doesn't federate with the rest of the Fediverse.

Funnily enough Truth Social is a private Mastodon instance.

We just named a lot of communities the same as the popular subreddits to make transition to the Fediverse a bit easier.
