So, Trump siding with Putin over the USA's own intelligence agencies wasn't a big enough red flag for these people?

[–] [email protected] 128 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Nothing is a big enough red flag, but the last thing we want to do is ridicule them when they are starting to see the truth of the matter.

Can't melt those snowflakes.

We need to grow our ranks right now, new allies should be welcomed and embraced. Escaping a cult isn't easy

(Also, this example might not be the best, isn't the account a satirical one?)

No, unfortunately he's serious

In all seriousness, we’ve got to make room for folks to return to sanity. When they have these “ah ha” moments we should take those opportunities to walk them back to reality.

All the “leopards/faces” jokes, while cathartic, aren’t really helping and encourage people to turn their backs on sanity for comfort.

[–] [email protected] 41 points 1 week ago (5 children)

Is there actual concrete evidence of any MAGAs "returning to sanity" over this stuff? As much as I'd love to be wrong, I'm skeptical that anyone still in the MAGA camp after the past 10 years could see this administration do any kind of heinous shit and not immediately dismiss it as false or rationalize it in a way that conforms to the party narrative. I think they've all been irreversibly brainwashed by Fox News and weaponized social media.

[–] [email protected] 31 points 1 week ago

Is there any evidence mocking them and alienating them from our views helps? People leave cults after being in them for years, so it’s not like profound change cannot occur at any time.

[–] [email protected] 20 points 1 week ago

I have pretty heavy judgement for people who have made it well into adulthood without bothering to engage with the reality of what they support.

However, always leave room for people who were raised in this crap. It takes serious time to deprogram and some people will do it at 16 and others might take until 26. I'm 31 and still deconstructing some of the repressive religious bullshit from my childhood even though I swing hard left politically (well past the Democratic Party) at 18. The brain doesn't stop developing until 25, so at least give them some leeway until then to figure out what they really believe.

My brother gave up on Trump and voted for Harris last year. It can be done, but they have to choose to do it on their own, and antagonizing them just pushes them back to Trump even more.

The bigger problem is that MAGA now controls most of the media. For every MAGA that sees the light there's some apathetic low-info genius who joins the cult.

We have to find a way to counter fascist media, and frankly I don't know how we can do that when the moneyed interests are almost entirely, and unsurprisingly, on the side of fascism.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I’ll always leave room for them, but I would still bet they will be fed their next set of talking points within the next 24 hours and be right back on board the crazy train.

You get partial credit for the right answer, even if you got there by accident.

[–] [email protected] 65 points 1 week ago (1 children)

been more than a week since I got to use this

[–] [email protected] 24 points 1 week ago (1 children)

ironically Mike from PA up there isn’t even MAGA. he’s a vocal pro-union progressive 😬

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 week ago

yea used to make one tailored to every group but turns out there are too many so just using this now

[–] Lucidlethargy 38 points 1 week ago (6 children)

I mean, Trump is also supporting a genocide in Palestine... So...

[–] [email protected] 23 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah but conservatives don't care about brown people, remember?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 week ago

the irony is that Mike from PA is a vocal self-described progressive, not a conservative

he just has a really flawed/compromised understanding of international politics

Known as Mike from PA, Mike is a progressive Political Activist from Pennsylvania and is known as the Steelman of the left, Mike advocates for union labor and social democracy.

So… False flag Tweet?

[–] [email protected] 34 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Progressives aren't libs, so nothing false flag about a progressive saying "the libs might have been right".

The assumption that anyone who calls liberals "libs" is also pro-Trump is incorrect.

no he’s approaching this from an absurd leftist position, i actually thought more people would know who this guy was so sorry for the confusion

mike from PA is what a lot of people categorize as a tankie and was one of the people who was VERY vocal about not voting for harris under the pretext that trump might be better. so he does a lot of rhetoric that’s basically semi-MAGA advocacy

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 week ago (3 children)

I'm not American so I don't care either way. But it was my understanding that he voted against supporting the genocide of Palestinians. Kamala was still going to support the genocide.

Missing from that summary is the fact that he's a confirmed moron.

He's been a Russian plant since he helped the Russian mob take over the construction racket in NYC from the Italians in the late 80s/early 90s

[–] [email protected] 18 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I didn't think I'd see the day Mike admitted a mistake like that. Times are dire, folks...

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 week ago (2 children)

like how long has it been since the first evidence of trump russian ties was public 😭 almost 40 years? the abject hatred of “libs” from the far far left is clearly blinding and i wish more people would see that

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (4 children)

Truth be told, I don't even know what an actual far left is. I always saw the left-right spectrum as woefully asymmetrical, because there's a handful of ways of getting things right (as in being correct factually + morally) and a million ways of getting them wrong. The former generally aligns with "left", and the latter with "right".

I've seen some vile opinions from people supposedly on the left which were indistinguishable from the far right, and it starts like you said with this irrational need to avoid agreeing with liberals at all costs, which in time leads them down delusion avenue.

and Trump has been in power 40 days lol. A little over a month. Not even 3% of his term.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 1 week ago (1 children)

What is the difference between a president beholden to a foreign adversary and one who just acts as though they are?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 week ago

A pay check and some brain cells, both belonging to the president

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I personally think Russia has something on him (and, indeed, many people in power), but to play devil's advocate: we'll never know if this is truly the case form him until the future if ever. There are all kinds of other reasons in line with narcissism and a number of other things/rewards that could explain it otherwise. Something something correlation causation.
