Summary

Ted Carstensen, deputy administrator of the U.S. Digital Service (USDS), resigned instead of accepting Elon Musk’s "Fork in the Road" dubious resignation offer for federal employees.

USDS was recently renamed the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under Trump’s executive order, but its staff has continued operating separately from Musk’s team.

A federal judge delayed the resignation deadline pending a February 10 hearing.

Carstensen cited personal reasons for leaving, while USDS employees face internal disruptions, including changes to communication tools and organizational structure.

For a minute I thought this was one of Trump's personal gestapo but no, this is a pre-Trump federal employee who was doing a legitimate job.

likely one of the few remaining that could have stood their ground instead of leaving the door wide open on their way out.

I'm guessing we will see a lot of this, the normal professionals jumping ship because they can't stand the crazy introduced by Trump and Elron.
There is only so much you can expect public servants to endure.
Last time Trump was president, most stayed and did their jobs, this time Trump has a specific goal to put in his people EVERYWHERE!
So the next rebellion will be absolutely without resistance, but will be backed by every branch of government. Most likely even the media won't dare to call it out for what it is either.

Elon and Trump are counting on that. If the Old guard quit then they can install loyalists.

Exactly, that's absolutely what they want, and the resistance is way less than last time Trump was president.
It seems like we are witnessing the end of American democracy.

It's disturbing to me how little resistance there's been. Watching this from Australia has been very weird. Biggest trade parter: china, biggest military parter: USA 😬

Absolutely, weird is very fitting, and Harris warned against exactly that.
Trump is openly corrupt, many of his actions are blatantly illegal, but he is allowed to continue?!?!
USA as a nation has gone crazy.

Why are you writing in future tense? That's what's happening now.

Yes you are right, I think that we are seeing the preparations for it already.
But the real turning point is when they make it so there is no fair elections. They haven't done that yet, but it certainly looks like it's the way they are heading.

Well, if he tried to take the fork, he's a forking idiot.
