My friends and I are all giving up our streaks. One is over 650. We don't cross picket lines.

In the wordle world, this is almost a big enough deal to make an x, formerly known as twitter, burner account and post on the NYT page. Just a little jab in the stomach that other ppl will see

Nah won't catch me dead using Musk's platform.

[–] spankinspinach 4 points 3 weeks ago

I also fully support this boundary!

[–] TriflingToad 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

damn that's dedication! I'm not sure if I could give that streak up.

It's a dumb number on a screen versus these peoples' livelihoods. Not even a hard choice.

It's a bummer today of all days; I could really use any distraction. But you don't cross a picket line, power to the striking workers.

A plug for the other lovely daily games: [email protected]

And for my favorite one: https://travle.earth/

I thought I was going to hate this and I absolutely love it

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 weeks ago

They made it just easy enough to be fun.

I saw someone share this earlier today also as another option!

Periodic reminder in light of the #nyt strike that #wordle started life as a free, vanilla javascript website with no DRM and not owned by the nyt, and I packed it into a single html file that you can download and run offline or from any site, like this: https://jon-e.net/wordle.html

If anyone has an alternative for the connections game I really liked that one :)

This site has an archive of all the NYT Connections games:

Connections shits me. I hate how they will put in clear connections but you're aiming for more obscure ones.

Strands and the Mini is where it's at.

I played so much wordle, I own the app and everything but I lost interest in it

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Lol, I definitely found that rough at first, but it's at least the kind of word puzzle I'm good at, I suck ASS at wordle 😅

Wordle gets a lot easier with some strategic opening word choices. The basic strategy is to pick words eliminating RSTLNE early (the "wheel of fortune" strategy), as those are the most commonly used letters.

There's also a more specific strategy aiming to win on the 3rd guess by maximizing common letters and placements using two predetermined opening guesses. "Clint" and "soare" were found to be the most optimal, but any combo on that list would be a very good pick.

Huh, thanks for the advice!

I have very poor working memory so thinking about words, and trying to remember letters, and thinking about how long they are, all at once, kinda fries my brain pretty quickly 😅 but I have a much easier time with the lateral thinking and word reasoning of connections

I'll keep your advice in mind if I give the wordle clones a shot, or am playing sometime in the future post-strike!

Hope you have a good one 😊

I hate how they will put in clear connections

I play daily and I don't recall ever seeing this. The one caveat is that they'll do something like, on the first line, the four boxes will be fresh, prince, bel, air. But then it's just obvious that is not what they meant.

But that being said, it's a tough game. I only have an 85% win rate. Often words I've never heard of and plenty of the purple groups I can't figure out even after I've eliminated all the other groups.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I tried to play this but no idea how it works. I tried the daily and I wrote a word that gave me all colored letters and didn't let me keep writing. Did I guess the word? No idea....

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

In this you’re solving 8 wordles at the same time. So green letters are in the correct place, and yellow letters are in the word but in the wrong place. It may help to focus on one at a time like a normal wordle, and see how many you can get solved before you run out of guesses.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 weeks ago

Thanks for the explanation!

[–] [email protected] 7 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Another fun one to try is contexto.me. You guess a word, and an AI gives a score on how close it deems you are to the word.

Why the fuck dinner is closer to brunch then breakfast or lunch??

[–] [email protected] 7 points 3 weeks ago

Spoilers bruh...

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 weeks ago

Haha, you'll have to ask the AI about that...

[–] BudgetBandit 5 points 3 weeks ago

As long as they don’t ask me to break my Duolingo streak it’s all good. I‘m scared of that owl

LARGE was an absolutely terrible guess if you already know that R can’t be in the third spot

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

terrible only if you want to minimise guess number, pretty good if you want to gather more information (and not lose altogether)

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 weeks ago

LAGER would give the same information but also have a shot at being correct
