I got into lucid dreaming and one of the peaks was when I could finally taste dream food.

I was at a dream New Year's party and there were cupcakes and I usually try to eat dream food but it messes with my dream and I usually wake up.

But that time I ate a cupcake and it was like the best cupcake I ever had. I was ecstatic

It was pretty cool.

How does one start lucid dreaming on purpose?

[-] Varyk 36 points 3 weeks ago

There are any number of methods, but the goal is being aware that you are in a dream.

The methods I found most effective were dream journaling and reality testing.

Everyday, you record whatever concrete information you definitely remember happening in the dream, even if it's just a red t-shirt someone was wearing for example.

Write it down somewhere, journal or notepad.

Very rapidly, you'll begin remembering more and more of your dreams.

That helps you recognize a dream state.

The other thing I did is reality testing, when you make sure you're awake.

So I will basically wave a hand or a couple fingers every now and then during the day and try to move something with my mind.

And then one day I was in my garage and as a reality rest, I telekinetically lifted the hood on my car.

And when the hood lifted, I realized "oh, I'm dreaming."

Once you're aware, the most important thing is to stay calm and not make drastic changes. Just tried to influence what you can within the context of the dream, and then you get better and better at it.

what if I'm already always aware that I'm in a dream in my dreams?
like my thoughts are almost always based on that (like, "oh no i broke my phone, but it's ok since it's just a dream")

[-] Varyk 5 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

That's fine.

Sorry I don't understand your question.

You mean you are like that and is that okay?

That's fine.

If you are aware the entire time, then you are lucid dreaming and you can start to control your environment.

Is that what you mean?

Keeping a dream journal messed my head up so bad. I couldn't distinguish if my memories were from a realistic dream or if it happened in real life. So I dropped it all together.

One thing you didn't mention is setting an alarm at where your sleep is light. Getting up for a glass of water and back to sleep. Your brain is in an optimal "half-awake" state for lucid dreams.

Not the fella you replied to, but a common method is to keep up a dream journal. Write your dreams down, write down common themes. The idea is that your subconscious will pick up on these things while you're dreaming, and you'll be able to control your dreams.

Beans and bread exclusively sounds like a promising Malnutrition speed run any% attempt.

[-] Varyk 29 points 3 weeks ago

Nah, beans are crazy nutritious

[-] [email protected] 7 points 3 weeks ago

But do not include all the nutrients your body needs for a long and healthy life.

There sure are worse options than beans though.

[-] [email protected] 5 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

I want you,

I need you,

But there ain't no way I'm ever gonna live on you,

Now don't be sad, ^don't ^be ^sad

No, cause 19 of 20 ain't bad.

[-] Varyk 2 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

They don't? Are you sure?

I feel like beans are one of the few foods that do include all the nutrients you need.

It's like them and quinoa.

[-] [email protected] 4 points 3 weeks ago

No but rice contains the rest.

[-] Varyk 2 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Interesting, what does rice have that beans don't?

I've always understood beans to be one of the very few foods that include everything.

Fat, protein, carbs, all the vitamins

[-] maccentric 4 points 3 weeks ago

Essential amino acids, I believe. That’s why the rice is key, it has those the beans are lacking.

[-] Varyk 2 points 3 weeks ago

Ah, you're right.

Wow, so quinoa is the remaining champion.

So long, beans. Pretty close though.

[-] maccentric 3 points 3 weeks ago

Beans and rice are pretty great together. And you can freeze rice (something I just learned recently)

[-] Varyk 1 points 3 weeks ago

I grew up with freezer bags of cooked rice from my parents.

Seems a little crazy considering how easy and quick it is to cook rice.

I wonder what the advantages are.

The only one I know of is that if you want to cook fried rice, it's way better if you have it in the fridge overnight because it dries out a little and then it soaks up all the flavors when you cook it the next day.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 3 weeks ago

And hempseed. Gruel is a complete protein, it's just cheap so most people haven't ever even tried it. It's kinda like a weird tasting grits or porridge

[-] Varyk 2 points 3 weeks ago

Hempseed porridge?

Okay.

Does that taste Good?

Cuz quinoa tastes good and you can add it oyster sauce and hot sauce and all this good stuff without contradicting flavor profiles.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 3 weeks ago

It's certainly an interesting flavor profile. On the savory bitter side, but with some spices I bet you could make a curry flavored porridge, or even something like a General Tso's. It basically tastes nutty and bitter with a tiny hint of grass.

[-] [email protected] 3 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

They don't contain one of the 20 essential amino acids. Namely methionine. Nuts, seeds, legumes, and grains contain it though, so you can pair beans with your favorite one of those to have a complete protein.

[-] [email protected] 3 points 3 weeks ago

Tofu is just lacking in methionine, not completely devoid of it, but you should have another source.

[-] [email protected] 21 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Aren't beans like really healthy?

Obviously he should have some veggies and fruit but... beans.

[-] [email protected] 8 points 3 weeks ago

Just buy a cheap vitamin-c supplement

[-] [email protected] 25 points 3 weeks ago

For most people, your brain is probably pretty good at vividly imaging the sensation of licking different surfaces. Try it; focus an imagine licking a towel. Mmm. Fluffy!

[-] [email protected] 6 points 3 weeks ago

But DO NOT imagine chewing on a towel

[-] [email protected] 5 points 3 weeks ago

Also do not think about breathing manually!

[-] DannyBoy 2 points 3 weeks ago
[-] [email protected] 2 points 3 weeks ago

Instructions unclear, I'm imagining chewing on tin foil.

Ow.

[-] [email protected] 25 points 3 weeks ago

but how am i going to imagine new, different things

[-] [email protected] 7 points 3 weeks ago

Try them once and file the feeling in your meticulously organised memory system.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 3 weeks ago

Honestly not sure if you're serious

[-] [email protected] 6 points 3 weeks ago

Ah, yes. The Rufio method.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 3 weeks ago

Rufio is a great mid-2000s pop-punk band.

[-] [email protected] 5 points 3 weeks ago

Why would anyone do that? Beans are great.

Now I don't need that sneaky avocado!

[-] [email protected] 4 points 3 weeks ago

[-] [email protected] 4 points 3 weeks ago

Work as a dishwasher for a restaurant. I have this ability already especially when all the cooks give me their food that they mainly mess up or I request.

Reading this, I could not help but think of the movie Waking Life.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 3 weeks ago

Doesn't help if I have never had, like, waygu so I can even imagine it. Everything'll just taste like chicken 😩

[-] [email protected] 2 points 3 weeks ago

Its very tender and is an extremely fatty piece of steak. It's definitely amazing but not quite mind blowing. Sometimes in chuck steak you'll find a piece with fine meat grain and intense marbling, and that's fairly comparable to Wagyu.

Wagyu is still beef and tastes mostly the same, just much more tender and fattier.
