It took brushies for Gibson to remember who I was and relax. It's so good to be home.

I was staying at an airbnb a 5 Min walk to work so it was: get up, go to work, come home, wait for work the next day. Blergh!

I'm going to spend the next few hours playing guitar to my hearts content.

And of course the stringy toy for Gibson.

Hope everyone had a great night 😊

This misty rainy weather is making me think about jumping on a tram up to chinatown for some dumplings. Bit of pan fried pork or xiaolongbao could go very nicely.

Edit: went for spicy wontons

I know tradies get a bad rap in this country, and sometimes it's justified, but respect to those who care about their craft and do it well.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 year ago

yeah those 4 guys should be celebrated

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago

Aye, I agree.

I had some washing machine dramas a few weeks ago. I called some service people to get quotes, one was very aggressive with trying to book me in and lock me in to paying and the 2nd one was a very nice guy who told me the truth that it might not be worth my money to call him out for a problem that might not be a simple fix.

People like that are so rare and wish more people like the 2nd guy I called cared more about their customers.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yep, over the years we have curated a collection of fine tradies - a sparky, a plumber and a general handyman. All reliable and good at what they do.

Well well....looks like our credit card has been compromised in the last week. Quite a few transactions for Uber (our Uber account is paid from the joint a/c. not the CC) and a $150 FoodHub order (neither of us have that app). Good on the bank for being available on a Sunday morning to deal with it and arrange new cards. They will investigate, but said that this is happening so often that it could take many weeks to get to the bottom of it. Stay vigilant folks, check your statements frequently.

Today's my last day before the big move. I've barely packed at all, and there's still about a dozen other things I want to do before I move onwards and hopefully upwards ig

I'm not taking any furniture so that helps a bit, but when I was going through my shelves I was spending way too much time being sentimental on small knick knacks and trinkets I've received over the years, so that doesn't help

I'm also slightly stressed about the logistics of moving day. All my boxes will fit in one trip, but I don't think my computer chair will fit with anything else. On top of that, I'm not sure I really trust a cardboard box with scrunched up newspapers to keep my PC and monitors safe, so I'll probably want to hold those, but I'm also not an octopus so I can't hold it all. Then when I get there at midday, I've got to build my bed, go grocery shopping, and if I have any energy leftover maybe build my desk and a bedside table

(Ok, it's only assembling, but tbf some of those flat pack furnitures are so complicated and difficult, I think taking some wood and actually building from scratch wouldn't be too much harder)

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago

Wrap your monitors in blankets or clothes if you're going to put them in a box. Regards, ex removalist.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

One day at a time. Do your bed, take two trips. We all spend ages on feeling senitmental when packing up our stuff. It's a good exercise. Yeah flat pack furnitue always takes longer than expected I find.

Just to really make my last day interesting, I seem to have eaten something bad, or come down with something, and now I'm sick, so now I get to pack my boxes with a bucket next to me the whole time

I'd like to pat myself on the back for actually eating all 3 meals today and getting halfway through a decent self help workbook and Having Big Destabilising But Also Cathartic Emotions and still being able to clear out the fridge, clean the kitchen, take the bins out, and prep my clothes and bags etc for the next day.

I might be behind on work, but I'm miraculously ahead on my sense of calm and centredness, and I'm going to sleep well tonight, and that's the best thing I can do for my whole self to get ready to tackle the other things I don't want to do.

I did unwittingly trap the cat in the garage for an hour because she silently snuck in while I was taking the bins out (and I was told she hates the garage) - but because I always give her a goodnight kiss I went looking for her and after coldly zooming in and ignoring me for a bit I think hostilities have calmed. Sorry puss I would've never intentionally left you there :'(

he he, Christmas in July was very Christmassy. Had a good xmas dinner, set the room and table for xmas, I dressed for xmas, made everyone watch two versions of A Christmas Carol and I didn't put up with shit.

I also had 1/2 bottle of wine πŸ˜€

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago (3 children)

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Wine and/or cheese day so I guess whatever tickles your fancy.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Thank you. Will stock up on blood.

At least someone’s enjoying this rainy weather. Image is of at least 4 black cockatoos in a tree fern.

Day 27 and tummy exercises completed. I take the elder minipeeler out today as his sister went out yesterday to a birthday. Mr Peeler having a grizzle that he's not involved. Hey, if I didn't have to pay his car insurance and rego I'd have the money to take everyone out! Not sure where we're going, but timezone is on the cards

Still reeling from the news re Fluke Skywalker. How could you man, I fucking loved you. Jesus.

Life increasingly feels again like a list of never ending chores. I tick everything off on the daily planner and then have these crushing feelings of despair when I turn the page to a new day and a blank slate - I have MORE things to do?!??!?! Do they ever stop?! Can I just stop (again) (and for longer this time)?

And yet, doing the chores endlessly on Animal Crossing was somehow therapeutic and relaxing... maybe because it's so much darn easier to earn Bells...

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Adulting is fucking relentless and a drag at times. My kids are all "you grown ups can spend as much as you want and buy whatever you like and do whatever you want" and I'm like "yeah but the minutiae child, the minutiae!"

I could hear my cat in the lounge earlier it sounded sort of like he was playing because his bell was ringing a bit but it just didn't sound right, so I followed my meowtherly instincts and discovered he had somehow gotten the loop from his name tag stuck on his bottom tooth and had been struggling to get it off. I picked him up and undid the whole collar to get it unhooked easily. So I'm definitely going to have to see if I can make the loop even smaller. Attaching a picture of Marmite because I always pay my cat tax.

You know, if I had a job where I'm just paid to learn stuff that'd be great. Alternatively I'd like a job where I just get paid to say stuff. I'm also open to a job where I do both.

Dim sum places should do half portion sad-serves for alone people like me so we can have a couple of dishes. They come 8 each.. I'm not eating 16 dumplings these days.

Better yet do options of 2 x 3 different styles as a menu item. That'd be ideal.

I made a sandwich out of the small tin of kippers.

It was smoked and salted very nice and here was surprisingly a lot of meat to make a sandwich out of.

Texture was nice and soft but the smoked taste of it was so delicious.

This was the Brunswick kippers as well.

Sorry for flooding with comments but I had to show you all this. They have been building this "Urban Forest" for many months and actually had the balls to host a grand opening event for this bullshit this morning.

It's a few shit concrete garden beds. Peak Docklands.

Final Call

Feeling weird and stupid, I sit and stare
Midnight black, immense pit of despair.
No stars, just scars, and painful understanding,
That I am not good enough to be an entire human.
My fears designed by my own devious mind,
My fears designed to keep me in this bind.
So dumb, I wonder why I can't have nice things;
Of course I sabotage my sanctuaries
With an avalanche of failings.
I'm too much, I'm not enough,
I'm in all the wrong places.
I'm cute, but it's moot,
When I break my safe spaces,
With trying to find a fucking connection.
I'm an idiot, a total social rejection,
Some kind freak of science project.
A monster irredeemable,
Broken future, irretrievable.
I'm done with these feelings of imperfection,
I can't handle any perceived rejection:
Oh really, it's only me that I'm rejecting.
Fucked up and projecting,
I'm tired of being a social dumbass,
I'm tired of my chaos and of my fuck-ups.
I'll burn down these bridges, I'll fucking do it,
I swear, as a last resort,
I'll delete my accounts so I cannot report
On every single one of my stupid fucking
Feelings and thoughts
That I fucking felt and thought.
Like this is my stupid 2011 Tumblr blog
I've done it before, I'll do it again,
I'm toxic, and broken,
Not fit for human consumption.
Not fit for social interactions
No matter how much I want a friend
I'm too fucked up to make the commitment
Because I overdo it as always, it's plain to see.
It's no wonder I'm so desperately, platonically lonely,
I'm only almost human, don't touch me.
I cannot keep being this weirdo on here
And pouring my life out to you forum of peers.
I'm an embarrassment, I cringe at my own reflection
I'm obtuse and have no valued contributions.
You see, this isn't an apology, just a eulogy.
Less about me and more about you.
Less of me and more of you.
These poems will not be my diary entries anymore,
They will be about the comments from the scores
Of people here on this thread.

StudChud is dead.

(Bot001, I am so proud of you).

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

Bullshit. No one is required to be 'perfect' in order to be a good human. The reverse in fact. You are you. Your friends are those who know all about you and still love you. A cliche I know, but it got to be a cliche because it has a LOT of truth in it. You don't need to perform for us. Take this from an old bitch who has been around for a longish time and is far from perfect herself, but has learned to enjoy the busyness of living. The real trick is to ignore comparisons with other people I think. Because they aren't perfect either, and if they are performing perfection then they are lying through their teeth.

Just bought a flat white from the cafe downstairs and a different lady served me who I haven't seen before. This is where the coffee goes up to and the top half is foam. How does one get someone deported from Melbourne? We can't have our baristas doing this.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'd remind her it was a flat white that was ordered and make her fix it. I was a barista for 11 years, and that shit should not stand.
