Rules:

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source.
Posts which titles don’t match the source won’t be removed, but the autoMod will notify you, and if your title misrepresents the original article, the post will be deleted. If the site changed their headline, the bot might still contact you, just ignore it, we won’t delete your post.
5. Only recent news is allowed.
Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.
6. All posts must be news articles.
No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials or celebrity gossip is allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis.
7. No duplicate posts.
If a source you used was already posted by someone else, the autoMod will leave a message. Please remove your post if the autoMod is correct. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.
8. Misinformation is prohibited.
Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.
9. No link shorteners.
The auto mod will contact you if a link shortener is detected, please delete your post if they are right.
10. Don't copy entire article in your post body
For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.
They can strike all they want, they work for a business whose model only functions off of squeezing their employees, so it's either squeeze the employee's or collapse.
Personally I think they should collapse and people should riot in the streets until their respective governments cave and say fuck you to the oil industry and start building public transport infrastructure
So they should definitely strike.
What would actually happen is shitty taxis would come back and most places in the US would lose the ability to get ad hoc transportation.
So be it.
If you don't fight for it you don't get it.
No amount of striking will make ridesharing (or taxis for that matter) profitable and their employee's paid a living wage.

Somehow I don't believe their numbers. Average $30/hr and $23/hr after expenses. IRS milage is $0.67/mi. Are they really saying über drivers are only driving about 10 miles every hour, or are they just offloading that working expense onto drivers and only accounting for the ~$3 per gallon fuel consumption?
Will the drivers that don’t strike make bank due to surge pricing?
Yupp! My dad does Uber and he went out about an hour ago and is already up $250 without even being in a surge area. He's expecting to make about $5k today/tonight working from 10am-1am. He says he's never had them back to back like he is today. He expects tonight to be stupid busy and again over the weekend.
Obviously yes. I imagine many people with nearly dead accounts will check the app and work this, and only this, day specifically for a good rate.
That's how contract employment works. Work when you want at a price that you agree to. No guarantees and no commitment. It's no way to live, which is why I pursued a salaried career. But it is useful in specific situations.

I know a guy who drives for uber & said he makes more doing that than at his "real" job
It varies greatly from region to region. Don't assume that money will keep coming. In a couple of years the roads could very well be saturated by other drivers.
