"Any lawyer who takes a TRUMP CASE is either 'CRAZY,' or a TRUE AMERICAN PATRIOT," Trump wrote

Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday announced on social media he's searching for a new law firm to represent him in an appeal against last week's jury verdict awarding $83.3 million to writer E. Jean Carroll.

He left a message to prospective hires in the Truth Social post, writing: "Any lawyer who takes a TRUMP CASE is either 'CRAZY,' or a TRUE AMERICAN PATRIOT." The former president's announcement follows his vow to appeal the jury's decision last Friday, predicated by the presiding federal judge's September ruling finding him liable for defamation.

It's not often Trump writes something I agree with, but I have to admit, they are certainly one of those two things.

Yeah but he screwed up the quotes again. Should be:

Any lawyer who takes a TRUMP CASE is either CRAZY, or a ‘TRUE AMERICAN PATRIOT’

[–] [email protected] 10 points 6 months ago

The true American patriots are the ones who take the case on the side of the prosecution.

It's New York, he has to post the 83M before he can appeal in a civil case. They don't let deadbeats waste their court time.

It is this kind of news that has allowed me to catch my breath. I no longer see a turnip dictatorship as an inevitability; a real and immediate danger, but one that feels less and less likely.

[–] [email protected] 65 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Likewise, but don't get complacent. The threat isn't over yet.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Agreed, 100%. Why it’s still real and immediate, feels like there is some hope. We gotta work for it though.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 6 months ago

It just has to get through the Supreme Court, not overturning a fundamental building block of the entire US justice system. Or more likely, stating that the reward "was too much."

And 3 of them seem to be on his side hell or high water; with a fourth being apparently really quite cheap to buy the loyalty of.

[–] [email protected] 24 points 6 months ago (8 children)

It's still a very real and persistent threat. Recent polls put him dangerously close, and he did alarmingly well in 2020.

Do not get complacent. We can win, but it is certainly not guaranteed. Stay active, and even contribute (time, money, etc) if possible.

I live in one of the handful of "states that matter" in the electoral college and in 2022 we broke so blue it's amazing. The GOP here is dead broke and has fallen to infighting. I'm not even sure they've worked out who's in charge after the former leader refused to accept the validity of the vote kicking her out. We are prosecuting fake electors.

It's almost ridiculous how hard Trump is going to lose Michigan. That's not the whole election, but it's a big piece.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 6 months ago

It's certainly looking positive up there. But those Trump voters are still there, and will still go vote for his fascism. You may not see them until then, but they are there. They also tend to not be involved in the rest of the GOP.

All that he needs to do to win Michigan is convince enough people that he can't/won't win.

100% true. I just am feeling more like the efforts will pay off than usual. Might just be the good day I’m having :)

turnip dictatorship

Had a chuckle with that typo.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Ain’t a typo, I just won’t type that assholes name :)

[–] [email protected] 4 points 6 months ago (2 children)

Ah. Understand completely. He's even ruined the normal word of his name.

Small story: My friend has a brother who is very artsy. He makes obscene "turnip" sculptures or items that make a mockery of him. He makes a bunch of them (dozens or more) and then leaves then around town for people to find (NorCal). Those that do will either be mad or laugh.

Anyhow. There's a story. Not sure of its coolness.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 6 months ago

At the very least this old chunk of coal thinks it’s cool :)

I'm sure all the best lawyers are on truth social

[–] [email protected] 31 points 6 months ago (1 children)

That's the funniest part of all this. I heard his lawyer talk once, and I could instantly tell she was chosen because she was MAGA, not on legal merits.

Literally the best he can get now are all on truth social lmao

[–] [email protected] 7 points 6 months ago (1 children)

That and Trump probably liked looking at her butt.

Calling something a "Trump case" should become an informal description among lawyers for a hopeless defense of an idiot loudmouth client.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (2 children)

Funny how "Trump card", having been a been used as something that is a sure absolute win, will turn into the exact opposite. I see people saying it throughout media of the last 30 years. Kids that watch that old stuff in the future will have no fucking idea why they would say that.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Trump Card is going to end up being all the incriminating evidence you left behind.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 6 months ago (2 children)

Bill Clinton left a Trump card all over that dress... :-P

[–] [email protected] 3 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Why is this the second Monical Lewinsky joke I've seen on Lemmy today? Did I fall into a time warp?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Happens whenever we're closeish to an election.

Trump is being told repeatedly that shutting up is free, and yet he still keeps flapping his jaws.

"I can say the person I raped is not my type and didn't rape. The only reason I gotta pay 83 million is because I got fucked by my lawyer! - trump

[–] [email protected] 4 points 6 months ago

Ofc not, he prefers ~~his daughter~~ younger girls.

[–] [email protected] 27 points 6 months ago

Any lawyer who takes a TRUMP CASE is either 'CRAZY,' or a TRUE AMERICAN PATRIOT," Trump wrote

Oh boy, I know the answer to this one!

[–] [email protected] 22 points 6 months ago (1 children)

TIL "true American patriot" is the legal hiring term for "must be passionate about your job" and "we're all a family here".

[–] [email protected] 9 points 6 months ago (1 children)

"Doing it for ~~exposure~~ patriotism."

[–] loutr 4 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Oh, they'll get exposure alright.

Calling all 'patriots!' Who wants to be stiffed of payment by the conman next?!

[–] [email protected] 11 points 6 months ago (1 children)

You mean the man with a reputation for not paying his lawyers is having trouble finding competent legal council?

I'm shocked. Shocked, I tell you.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 months ago

I hope not that shocked though:-)

[–] [email protected] 8 points 6 months ago

"... and it appears that a better lawyer is worth at least seventy eight million dollars" - LegalEagle is not impressed with this representation!
