General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both [email protected] and [email protected] .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

[email protected] appears to have vanished! We can still see cached content from this link, but goodbye I guess! :'(

Fuck Nigel Farage. Don't upvote and normalise whatever shite he's talking.

Blank him from your mind, politically ostracise him. He's not in government, he's not in the official opposition. He has barely more power than the average celebrity. His power comes from talking points. Don't give him any.

When friends and family bring up his latest bonkers outpouring, tell them he's a nutcase that you won't engage with because he doesn't engage in good faith. Don't discuss him.

He was given a platform by the BBC on the likes of HIGNFY and Question Time, his opinions became legitimised. Remove that legitimacy before it takes over any more than it already has.

He's an MP (for Southend IIRC, which I probably don't) and the leader of Reform. Also he doesn't know Lemmy exists let alone receive the upvotes or downvotes.

I know who he is. As a teenager I thought he spoke sense, as an adult I realise he's full of shit.

I don't expect he knows what Lemmy is either, but that doesn't stop his talking points from appearing here. Upvotes and downvotes are meaningless, Reddit karma was a stupid thing to care about, and even less so here. But they do determine what gets seen.

If we don't want to spread hatred, intolerance, and bigotry then we need to stop spreading the words of a hateful, intolerant, bigot. That means not posting everything he says, not upvoting what he says. Because in doing so we help spread his message, we help normalise intolerance in our society.

Ignore him.

The second he became an MP, we lost the luxury of ignoring him, now we have to ensure people stay informed enough to fight against his initiatives and ideas.

We ignore the Lib Dems and they have more MPs. It's just the BBC love fascism and will front page every time he farts.

5 MPs don't have the power to implement much initiatives and ideas. Look at the Greens, Lib Dems, SNP, Plaid Cymru, etc, for evidence of that.

We know what his ideas generally are, and he makes sure they're plastered all over the place. We don't need to spread them, for him, here too.

His power is in being a celebrity, getting his bullshit spread, not in elected office. Don't spread it for him. That is, unless you agree with his bigotry I guess, but I've seen your name around and you seem sound.
