I’m terrified of installing anything that I cannot easily clean. These people are utterly fearless.

I'd be terrified that something would startle the cat and she'd fall.

[–] [email protected] 25 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Yeah, it needs a guard rail.

Does the cat know about 3-point contact?

[–] [email protected] 44 points 2 weeks ago

Cat would walk on guard rail.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I don't know about 3-point contact

[–] [email protected] 21 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It’s a safety-training thing.

Basically, when climbing a ladder make sure to always have three limbs on the ladder at all times.

This has happened to our cat who managed to scramble up to a shelf in front of our big bay window in our living room. He was trying to swat at bugs that will occasionally bump into it from outside. Our shelf is twice as wide as this one, and he still lost his footing :/

Ours isn't as high up as this one, thankfully, and we keep a cushioned rug and dog beds directly underneath it that he landed on, so he wasnt hurt. But yeah, this one would make me nervous.

'Course, they know their cat's disposition best, maybe they're super chill and never move very fast/suddenly. Would just hate for someone to try this and have their kitty get hurt

You're absolutely right, as that cat will puke in the most inconvenient spot.

[–] [email protected] 43 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (3 children)

My cats always run across the tile floor to the carpet to puke.

The other day I watched my cat drink an obscene amount of water, like 10 minutes straight of licking, then she went to the basement and puked it all up at the base of a cabinet.

I had to empty the cabinet and move it to clean up the 99% water puke.

My cats will be about to throw up, so I'll slide a paper towel under them, and they will try to move to get back to the floor.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I do that too. It's a much easier cleanup.

[–] _druid 13 points 2 weeks ago

For the cats, at least. I wouldn't recommend doing it for yourself. I learned that the hard way.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 2 weeks ago

They are just being considerate, since puke blends in better with carpets. Ask me how I know.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

They think the carpet is a nice soft soil with grass growing in it. In nature, a soft surface like that is full of bacteria that will break the puke down and prevent disease from spreading. Puke on a hard surface, and that mess isn't going away for a long time.

The cat sciences…

Honestly feels like their only mistake was not making it roomba sized with an outer mini railing that would keep the roomba from falling off AND they could hang decorations from it. Really didn't think about how they could multipurpose this.

ETA I retract somewhat, they could be total mavericks and get a long extension for their vacuum and then tape it to an RC car. Is it a lot of extra work? Yes. Would it be amazingly fun? Also yes. Especially if you hook up catnip spreader basket on the back (though maybe that's unsafe, probably don't encourage your cat to weed and balance beam).

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

They'll probably just use the same ladder they used when installing it

[–] Gullible 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I had a friend with a high foyer. They had to dust it with a ladder. Every time I saw it happen, I didn’t think “this is feasible.” No, I wondered which homicidal idiot designed it and which sadomasochist chose it.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I use a ladder to vacuum hair off a vent at work, it's harder than vacuuming hair off the ground, but I'd say it's worth it to make your cats dream come true

[–] Gullible 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I cannot fathom voluntarily adding hazard cleaning to my monthly routine. I envy your resolve.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Are ladders really that hazardous?

[–] Gullible 2 points 2 weeks ago

I can fairly comfortably fall five feet. Any higher than that, particularly with something in my hand, I would not choose to do any more than I have to. I’m cleaning gutters, pressure washing siding, and painting walls, but not happily.
