And that’s basically it!
I actually didn't know that this was legal to do in the U.S.
@Elgenzay @can Yes, it is legal in the US, under our First Amendment. Freedom of speech is unusually strong in the US. Even the President's best friends can throw Nazi salutes. In theory, the People should do something about that, if they want to, but it's not the right of government to decide who should think what and get to express it or not.
More technically, content-based government discrimination of expression is strictly forbidden under our constitution.
There aren't a lot of jurisdictions in the world that ban the sale or display of the swastika (in Nazi-supporting circumstances). Australia and Germany are the only ones that come to mind, and Australia has only done so very recently (this year).
Don’t forget about Austria, although I believe that won’t be for much longer as the next head of state is openly a Hitler fanboy
I didn't know, but that makes sense. My state in Aus also went further and banned the salute, and has actually prosecuted people under that law.
I'm not sure if displaying a swastika is banned, if it is I wasn't aware of that.
Most states banned the salute. The federal govt recently banned it too, with mandatory incarceration.
It's apparently encouraged even
