Does anyone have their best tips for bending a 90 degree bending of 1/2 conduit on a slight uneven surface. My bends are just slight open and I’d like to be able to take the uneven surface into account but quickly.

Please provide any tips you can.

I’m about to start an apprenticeship, I need to find an employer to take me on. I’m going to call up some local firms and offer to work for them for free for a couple weeks and if they like me we’ll approach the local college and apply to make me an apprentice. For this 2 week trial, I want to be useful so I need some basic knowledge.

Are there any YouTube playlists/channels that explain the basics of Uk electrics?

Hi everyone!

I have a full time job as an industrial electrician. Working at 1 location doing process work for a manufacturing company. I’ve had my masters for a while now….which in Canada lets you pull permits and apply as a LEC. I’m looking to start my own gig again. Projects won’t be anything large. Mainly subcontracting control work and doing the odd resi car charger etc. I was thinking of getting a 2024 canyon/colorado and tossing a decked box in the back. Ideally I need something that I can use for personal use and put a baby seat in the back. The new tundras are looking nice also.

Can I see your truck setup? Cap no cap.

Thanks

Hey everybody, so some quick back story:

I’m 21M and just out of a trade college with both a decent degree and certificate related to electrical, and have some basic work experience as an electrician already; hours as an apprentice I can’t use for my journeyman’s, i’ve worked in theater doing literally everything, and for the last year have worked in IT.

So my dilemma is this: I just recently lost my job on good terms, and have a great resume and great letter of recommendation from the president of the trade college I attended; I am half inclined to further pursue IT and networking for the “ease” the career can have, but frankly I hate the work. I’m alright at it; i’m no super genius, but I pick things up quick and retain information. Honestly, I really enjoy doing residential and commercial rough in. I really like electrical theory, and understand and can explain some complex theory; but I like the simplicity of that theory applied to “large scale” electrical systems, compared to microelectronics or worse, computers.

I could spent this time building a career allowing me to sit at an air conditioned desk all day, getting paid a hefty wage; and yet part of me is addicted to the feeling after a long days work after pulling cable all day. My dad and grandad were all electricians, and I truly love this work too. Would I be a fool to pass up a career in IT administration to pursue an electrical mastery?

Will I regret that decision when I’m 30? 40? 60? I need advice from other electricians, I’m at a loss for what to do here

Hi all,

I’m considering getting a set of insulated gloves. Maybe 0 class, probably don’t have to be rated for more than 1000v. I always wear regular gloves just to protect my hands but I’ve had a few corner cases scenarios where i would like to have some legit PPE for my hands, typically when moving or manipulating a live service drop during a service change. I’m sure the company would buy whatever I asked for… I just don’t know what brands are decent or anything about sizing. Like if get a size 9 rubber glove do I need a larger size leather or is that accounted for in the sizing?

Again, the instances where I actually need this kind of PPE are exceedingly rare but I would like to have it available to me if need be

22 year old second year union inside wireman. Took this job to have a better resumè for another job but I ended up loving being an inside wireman more than I ever thought I would, and I am determined to be a talented journeyman wireman someday. BUT, I had and still have dreams I want to try and chase, as I’m sure some of you do too. And that might include changing careers. My question, is changing careers like that, is it harder than it sounds? I’m just not sure I want to one thing for my entire working life. I figure if trying another career didn’t work out if I’m still a JW I can get back to work in no time. Not like most jobs. Tell me if I’m crazy or not

I signed up online for a electrical apprenticeship at electrical Institute they didn't even respond back to me to take my apptitude test. I thought trades are low in demand and the non union apprenticeships require experience I get rejected for it how am I supposed to get into trades if no one is willing to take me at this point I think I'm going to go to trade school

When I went back to the shop the bossman brought me into the conference room to apologize that my actual skillsets didn't match to what they were looking for which was bs, the foreman told them to get rid of me for making a few dumb mistakes.

Also I think they decided to go with the other guy they hired that had more experience in controls than I did, after 10+ yrs in the trades as a jman electrician and also running jobs I got my 1st termination, my suspicions were spot on and it was a case of this guy thinking I'm retarded.

I've made some stupid mistakes in the past and never got fired over any of it, nor would have I thrown my helpers off the job or anyone else for that as well.

To all the fellow business owners out there, how do you charge for small items needed for jobs such as wire nuts, wagos, fasteners etc.

Going for my ME in Colorado and I’m not too worried about that test. I want to do some stuff on the side and be legit about it. I’m curious if there’s anything out there that will educate me about the laws, industry standards, and regulation that anyone could point me towards. NASCLA isn’t required here and I’ll only being doing work locally, worth doing anyway?

Thanks

I’ve been trying to become a first year apprentice in Southern California but it seems no one is hiring. Every application I’ve put it, i get the response that i wasn’t chosen and they’re moving on with the hiring process. I’ve been thinking about moving to Colorado, would it be easier to start out over there?

I’ve amassed quite a bit of industrial control equipment, some used- some brand new. Mostly Allen Bradley, Square D, Eaton. Motor starters, transformers, push buttons, breakers, relays ect… where can I sell this stuff? If not sell it, I guess I could donate it but I’m not sure if the colleges or trade schools around me will accept it?

Does anyone in here sign for another company to use their license? In Texas we can have our own company and sign for another one. I’ve never wanted to do it before but now I’m thinking about it. Is it worth it?

So you know those intercom phones / door phone (not entirely sure what they're actually called) that opens the front door of the building in an appartment complex. This is one of those euro appartment buildings where you have one front door with loads of buttons to ring whatever unit you need, and all units are accessible only through this door. My client currently has one of these intercome phones with a switch on it. When the switch is on 'on', the buildings front door opens as soon as you ring the bell for his unit outside. And if the switch is on 'off', the front door of the building only opens after you answer the phone, then press the 'open door' button. Does an intercom with a timer exist, or will i just need to install a separate timer?

Ps. His appartment is used for a business so so in business times itshould open easy and not afterhours.

Pps. I'm living in a country where i barely know the language, so googling is kinda fucked

I am not an electrician atm, but I am definitely looking into it. So I am curious what is the best way to get atarted/into this field, I'd it better to get an apprenticeship and work my way up or is it better to go to a trade school for it and find a job afterwords? I am 25 years old and have been working in food service as a cook for 8 years, well I am basically I the exact same spot I was 8 years ago now so I just don't see it being worth staying here for even longer so I was looking at fields that I would potentially and probably like as much as cooking that pays well and electrician is one that I am HIGHLY considering but. However I am not sure what would be the better way to get started, going to school or going to an apprenticeship and learning on the job.
