Researchers at New York University have concluded that social media is not an accurate reflection of society, but more like a funhouse mirror distorted by a small but vocal minority of extreme outliers. It's a finding that has special resonance this election season. John Yang speaks with psychology professor Jay Van Bavel, one of the authors of the paper that reported the research, to learn more.

Truly a masterpiece in film making. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

The context around this is the concept of the Right of Ancient Light. Under English law, windows that have enjoyed a sufficient level of light for at least 20 years are recognized as possessing a right to ancient light.

Once conferred, the owner of the property can invoke this right to prevent the construction of a building that would obstruct the level of light that enters these windows, or they can be compensated monetarily to give up this right.

The video doesn't explain this aspect, but the barriers were presumably set up so that his windows would never acquire this right, thus allowing the neighbor to develop their property sometime in the future without concern.

An interesting old video on communication. It shaped a lot of my thoughts about communication from a young age and I recently watched it again and remembered how much I love it all over again

Also, yes it's by the guy who does the "true facts about" videos

The BBC’s Orla Guerin has been taken on a tour of Al Sahel Hospital in Beirut where Israel claims millions of dollars in cash and gold are kept in a hidden Hezbollah bunker underneath.

Doctors denied the allegation and took the BBC through the building, including to the first and second level below ground. They insisted there is nothing underneath.

On Monday night the hospital had to evacuate around 50 staff and 15 patients - none of them critical - when Israel made its claim.

Hospital officials have insisted that Al Sahel has no connection with any organisation, or group, or faction.

This is the first installment in a monumental new series called Bomb Light - an expansive historical epic of intrigue and international espionage, presaging the dawn of the Atomic Age. Set against the turbulent decades of the early twentieth century, Polostan is an inventive, richly detailed, and deeply entertaining historical epic from Stephenson, whose prior books include "Cryptonomicon" and "The Baroque Cycle". Our conversation host for this evening is Charles C. Mann, journalist & author of "1491: New Revelations of the Americas Before Columbus" and "The Wizard and The Prophet". Mann has also given two Long Now Talks.
