They're analogous to the far right is the main thing. Anarchism/communism/etc. is the gateway to such views. Most lefists don't go that far (good) but some do. Same thing with the far right, they start off as libertarian, ancap, or run of the mill conservatives etc. and end up going into cuckoo land after they watch too much cable news and facebook conspiracies.

In the USA, we have an environment where it's far easier and more beneficial to those in power to co-opt people into right wing extremism than left wing extremism, hence the outsized representation. You can definitely find countries where the opposite is true, it's a fairly big issue in south american and southeast asian nations. What's interesting to me is that the end goals are nearly the same, which is to implement an authoritarian state where there is a powerful insular ingroup that can exploit the masses to their benefit.

The USA skews fairly right overall so you don't really see a lot of them here. It's a lot easier to find them in other countries.

I've definitely ran into a few people IRL who have gone far enough down the rabbit hole that I've heard them trot out the classic stuff about how "Stalin/Mao/Fidel/etc. was good actually"

The far left would be people like tankies, where they go so extreme they end up parroting a lot of the same rhetoric you see on the far right, just through a different lens. I've literally interacted with people on this site who believe North Korea is secretly a utopia that the West is trying to hide with propaganda.

They don't really have much in the way of significant political representation in this country. The far right unfortunately does.

I'd consider commies, anarchists, and anti capitalists in general to just be leftists, not far leftists. It's not really my thing but I can at least respect it.

I bought a valve index to play Half Life Alyx and Boneworks. I was so excited to see what new and exciting games would come next aaaaand... nothing remotely interesting has come out since.

It also really enforces the whole binary gender role thing which is not a great message. I'm a straight cis dude but I shouldn't be locked into all the straight cis dude tropes, and neither should anyone else be wholly defined by their gender identity and sexual orientation.

I'm tired of seeing this worn out point. What exactly would you propose he do that is:

  1. Actually possible for him to do

  2. Not going to make the situation worse

  3. Not something he is already doing

Don't get me wrong, I don't like what Israel is doing either but the US has painted themselves into a corner long before the Biden admin. We can't stop supporting Israel without basically ceding control of the region to Iran, and I guarantee Iran will do shit that will make Israel look like Mr. Rogers by comparison.

I'm not saying there's nothing he could be doing better, but I don't see any productive discussion from the people calling him Genocide Joe.

And all that aside, he's still by far the preferable alternative to Don Cheeto who would likely actually be a genocide enabler.

From what OP wrote, they aren't total strangers given he knows she likes comics. He sounds fairly young so I'm guessing she's in his social circle or someone from school. If they were total strangers or just met for the first time, then yeah I'd say it would be a good idea to strike up a casual conversation or two before asking them out. You just really don't want to develop strong feelings for them before you ask them out. It's a recipe for pain if she says no, and can make things pretty awkward if they're going to have to keep seeing each other regularly.

It's a good idea. You may want to plan a second activity like lunch or a walk in the park as well.

And just be direct. Something like "Hey, do you want to go on a date with me? We can grab something to eat and go to the comic store."

If she says no, don't push it. Just say okay and wish them well.

I too was terrible at talking to girls. I still am but my girlfriend doesn't seem to mind lol

Whatever you do, just don't try any pickup artist or smooth talking tactics. It's gross and cringey, doubly so if you don't have the confidence to pull it off.

I would also disagree with a lot of the other comments, if you want to date this person, make it clear you want a date. Don't try to do the be friends then turn it romantic thing. It can work but not when you already know you want to date them.

Yeah seriously. As a dev, that 30% cut gets you a lot of stuff with absolutely no additional charges. Trying to roll your own distribution for your downloads could exceed that 30% by itself after you:

  • Host the files somewhere that can be downloaded anywhere close to as fast as steam's servers
  • Handle payment processing fees
  • Develop and maintain a site with high reliability

And that's only downloads. With steam you also get:

  • p2p networking tools
  • game server hosting
  • steam community integration
  • analytics
  • cloud saves
  • voip

And like 50 other things. It's ridiculously good value unless you're developing some super low rent single player indie title. Even then, just having it available on steam will get you way more sales to make up for it.

Sure, epic charges 10% but you basically only get distribution and some super half baked community features.

Generally, all meat is safe when cooked to an internal temp of 165, assuming it's not spoiled. Cooking kills bacteria and parasites but it doesn't get rid of all toxins they might have produced. You can get away with lower temperatures if you cook it longer or with certain meats. Pork, poultry, or anything ground you definitely don't want to undercook.

The FDA has a lot of good info if you search for it.

Nixos is great, but unfortunately I can't use it at work. I have migrated my home server infra to it though and plan to migrate my desktop the next time I have a free evening.
